Aztech FG7008GR(AC)
Trying out this new router. Well, not that new, I think it came out in 2015. Specs wise it looks great. Broadcom dual-core 1GHz SoC, 4 chain 5GHz + 3 chain 2.4GHz wifi. AC2400. MU-MIMO some more, not bad right? Price on Shopee ranges from RM400-RM700.

It's got a pretty good processor. According to wikidevi, the same SoC as Asus DSL-AC88U.

Issues

Firmware from here: ftp://ftp.aztech.com/support/SINGAPORE/ADSL/
Don't expect too much of firmware updates from Aztech. The last one was v322.6s.3-007 from 2016.

Firmware Again
The latest firmware v322.6s.3-007 does not work with UniFi. PPPoE tries to connect but fails. The latest working firmware for UniFi is v322.6s.3-003.

1.0.0.0/8 Route
There's a 1.0.0.0/8 route to the local bridge. Anything going to those addresses will disappear. This route cannot be deleted. A few years ago, this would have been ok as 1.0.0.0/8, while not defined as a private address, has always been reserved and publicly unroutable. Even Cisco uses 1.1.1.1 for their WLCs. However, it has since been assigned to APNIC and is now in active use. I'm sure you've seen 1.9.1.9 before. It's one of TM DNS. Firmware v322.6s.3-007 fixes this but is not compatible with UniFi.

The solution to this is to create the same route 1.0.0.0/8 to ppp0. I don't know why but it takes precedence over the pre-existing route.

Dynamic DNS
Only dyndns.org & TZO supported. Both of which are no longer free.

Tips & Tricks

Default IP Address
Default router IP address is 192.168.1.254 not your usual .0 or .1.

Passwords
Default user password is {blank}. Default admin password is admin. Highly recommended that you change it.

Dynamic DNS
Only dyndns.org & TZO supported. Both of which are no longer free. So don't throw away your old DIR-615 or any DLink device. Use it to register a free dlinkddns.com address and use it here with dyndns.org.

This thread like so quiet only.. Recently, I bought the Singtel version of this router for dirt cheap while down in Singapore to play around and hopefully replace the stock TP-Link AC1200 router.. and see how hard it is to use with UniFI. First thing I realized is dem, this router is way heavier than the TP-Link! Also got 2 USB 3.0 ports and a lot more lights.

So this version is the FG7009GR(AC), one number up from the Aztech one (FG7008GR(AC)), and the differences are only:
- Casing has no trace of Aztech, all brands replaced by Singtel
- Firmware changes (USB port disabled, SSID set to Singtel one, additional routes)
- ‘Advanced’ mode by going to http://192.168.1.254/singtel, and login with
CODE
Username: admin
Password: H3ll0t3ch

In this advanced mode you have access to more advanced settings compared to the normal settings page. Probably only for Singtel staff to configure the router. Btw, the current Singtel firmware version on mine is 339.6.2-011. I have tried using UniFi with the stock firmware doesn’t seem to work, but might have missed something out.

So now, how do we get UniFi compatible firmware on this router? Quite simple, but we have to flash two different versions of firmware, first one is to allow us to flash any version of the Aztech firmware replacing the Singtel one and second, the UniFi compatible one. In order, the first firmware can be either Version 322.6s.2-009 or Version 322.6s.2-011, but second firmware will be the last one working for UniFi, Version 322.6s.3-003.

If you choose to follow this guide, please note you’re doing this at your own risk, will void any warranty on the device, and I’m not accountable if your router becomes bricked or turns into a killer robot that has laser beams.

1) Connect computer to router via ethernet cable, do not use WiFi. Go to 192.168.1.254, login and under Device administration, select Firmware Upgrade
2) Select the first firmware to flash, Version 322.6s.2-009 or Version 322.6s.2-011, and press upload. Do not power down the router, laptop, or disconnect the ethernet cable until loading bar shows 100%
3) Flash second firmware, Version 322.6s.3-003
4) Enter in your PPPoE username and password, set 802.1P Priority to 0
5) Set 802.1Q VLAN ID to 500
6) Enable IGMP Multicast Proxy under Advanced>Advanced Setup>WAN>(for current interface)Edit> IGMP Multicast Proxy

Also attached some images if you need reference. For Internet setup:
Attached Image

For enabling IGMP Multicast Proxy

Attached Image

And you should be done! For some reason, I couldn’t find the strange routing problem that @soonwai encountered, but I created a static route to 1.0.0.0/8 just in case. Will still play around with this router and see if I discover anything new. So far, IPTV is untested yet but there is option for it, might have to create a new interface and everything. IPv6 needs more testing too.

As for my own setup, I repurposed my stock TP-Link router as a wired AP for my second floor. It works well enough to extend the range and cover the house in WiFi, ready for speed upgrade. Seller also gave me another older Singtel router DSL7002GRV(S) seems like this is only AC750 but still gigabit, might turn this into spare AP or switch. I'll try to get pics of both soon.

If you want to get the Aztech FG7008GR(AC), it's actually on sale on Lazada.my right now, RM199, which is a pretty good deal, some more from official store.

If you want to get the Singtel one and flash a compatible firmware for cheap, sg.carosell.com as miloaisdino and soonwai has mentioned in the past, that's where I got mine too

People seem to be complaining about firmware in another thread, good test though but the CPU is actually outdated, and by that i mean its ability to do hardware NAT for gigabit speeds is questionable, for example you can see with the asus AC68U and AC88U, broadcom's accelerated NAT solution wasnt very good but i suppose as an AP it might work . For 300Mb/s the CPU will work fine.

Your iperf test shows that it does up to 800Mb/s, try a full bidirectional test, as for 300Mb/s you actually need 600Mb/s of forwarding capacity assuming the new packages are fully symmetrical. I hope they will be.

Hardware nat should be at 900+mbps (disable qos) as it was provided for singtel 1gbps plan.

iperf test clearly shows below 900Mb/s, and broadcom's "hardware" NAT at that time wasnt really hardware NAT but a hack to bypass the linux kernel for reduced overhead.

Ya, Carousell is good place to start if you want to look for these. I'm surprised so many people know about this router now! I must also say thanks to Soonwai for documenting this router and it's capability well enough, else I wouldn't have bought it. I was looking for new AP, and was just checking Carousell when I come across these routers, did some research, and found this forum post.

Though, are you still on the Singtel firmware? If so, does the router work with UniFi? Else, my guide might be redundant..

Sadly no, still doing some research on this router, but seems like this model was custom made for Singtel themselves, so only Singapore firmware.. it has been documented on OpenWRT though. https://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/aztech/aztech_...2grv_s#hardware

Maybe I'll just try key in my PPPoE username and password, plug it in and see if it works on the stock firmware, or not just use as a AP or switch.

thanks for clarifying, still i'd really like to see WAN-LAN speeds for full bidrectional but if its the same CPU as the one in the AC88U i can simply check a site i know that already has reviewed and tested it.

Yep, no routing or NAT here. Of course, no way for me to test routing speed yet. So have to wait for Turbo 10x to come in first.

I plan to use as an AP so I was more interested in its wifi performance.

U delete the interface named 'INTERNET', and create another interface with exactly the same name. Note: you can only set dns on interface creation, which is annoying!
For iptv, u may want to setup 'bridge type' interface and name it 'IPTV-ETH', then add the appropriate vlan. Then go to 'port binding' and bind that interface to lan4. Then play around abit with the igmp settings until it works.

Note: aztech is quite particular about the names of interface, it is good to keep it exactly as I have suggested

you can test LAN-WAN speeds using iperf, though you'd have to set up 2 PCs and connect WAN to one, LAN to other, and do some network setup on the PC on the WAN side, its not difficult.
Heres the AC88U review
https://www.smallnetbuilder.com/wireless/wi...howall=&start=2
Total simultaneous, this is the very interesting bit, also note the poor single directional speeds. While this SoC will scrape 800Mb/s, it wont hold if the new packages are symmetrical.

edit: considering broadcom's "hardware NAT" method, the slower CPU speed of 1Ghz vs 1.4Ghz, this will not achieve the same speeds, so this will scrape by a 500Mb/s symmetrical connection.

Haha but wifi speed will usually be slower than nat throughput doh.gif

This is the config for UniFi. IIRC, it has vlans 400, 500, 600 all configured. Should be used with firmware v322.6s.3-003. Earlier also can I think.

Lol it was clearly based on singtel config, some singtel specific settings such as iptv vlan priority 4 are still there haha

Anyway for those who want to do by manual, can follow https://www.tp-link.com/au/faq-346.html (Most of the oems dont actually bother to make their own ui, they all base on broadcom original ui, just change the layout and colour abit)

the most important question we need to ask is, will it route? If its not fast enough the answer is no.

2-011 is not the latest. 3-007 is the latest but the latest that works with UniFi when I was testing it is 3-003.

2-011 is not the latest. 3-007 is the latest but the latest that works with UniFi when I was testing it is 3-003.

Thanks.

I flash 3-003 n uploaded your conf... change to my login...no internet

Change to bridging... connect to my router... nothing

Restart . . . reset... now nothing is working... can't even get back to the web menu ... sad.gif

Update: manual ip, & reflash back to 007... working normal as AP now
Btw... router came with 007A as the latest firmware

Im working on custom 5ghz config. The aztech is actually a router in a router. Broadcom on the outside, quantenna with its own processor on the inside. Can telnet into quantenna soc to hv a look.

telnet 192.168.1.254 48599
nc 1.1.1.2 23
Then backspace all the way, and type root then press enter

cd /mnt/jffs2/
echo "mode=ap&bw=80&vht=1&region=us&channel=153&bf=1&pwr=19&scs=0&vsp=0&staticip=1&" > wireless_conf.txt (edit this to yr liking)
sync

Thanks bro, my router finally works!! Bravo!!!

However, there is one last thing to make my router perfect, which is my 5GHz turns into 20MHz channel instead of 80MHz, and I tried the method above, but I was stuck at the nc 1.1.1.2 23 step, since after telnet 192.168.1.254 48599, it asked for log in name and password, I tried admin admin and I got the connection but it shows error when I typed "nc 1.1.1.2 23", I'm wondering what is the step by step I should have done, and what method did you used to telnet? Windwos PowerShield or putty? Thanks ya!

Hi. I experience this 20mhz bug at times also. Solution is to reflash your router firmware (if u using as ap only i recommend 006) then perform broadcom 30-30-30 reset (google for info) and then again press restore to default in the webpage (stupid but to reload the webui files from firmware into jffs)

Telnet if password wrong error is for security. U can overcome by changing password for admin user in the web ui to anhthing else thrn can use new password to login telnet

If nc 1.1.1.2 23 cannot connect, remember to remove 1.0.0.0/8 static route then try again.

Alternatively u can call_qcsapi_sockrpc --host 1.1.1.2 xx yy zz
Where xx yy zz is from https://github.com/RMerl/asuswrt-merlin/blo...t/call_qcsapi.c and https://github.com/RMerl/asuswrt-merlin/blo...stateless-slave for instant effect (should be able to override 20mhz bw to 80mhz)

Try call_qcsapi_sockrpc --host 1.1.1.2 set_bw wifi0 80 (i cant rmb the exact command if not its wifi0 0 80)

If u get random disconnect problem acting up for ap mode, i can post my config smile.gif

Edit: i got 160mbps on 20mhz 2.4ghz haha

So I just open telnet and

telnet 192.168.1.254
log-in:admin
pwd:admin
call_qcsapi_sockrpc --host 1.1.1.2 set_bw wifi0 80
reboot

Is the steps above correct? Sorry coz I not really know telnet well, gonna ask step by step ^^

I'm using it as router so gonna stuck in 003 firmware, it just turns into 20MHz if I change the channel, but no problem in 007 firmware. I wanna use 5G wifi as region AU, channel 104 bw 80MHz, I found this is the best range and power for this model, even better than channel 153 bw 80MHz region AU/US.

BusyBox v1.17.2 (2016-04-05 16:23:38 SGT) built-in shell (ash)
Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands. (This brings you into the main linux shell)

# call_qcsapi_sockrpc --host 1.1.1.2 get_bw wifi0
(this retrieves your current bw. In your case it shd be '20')
80
# call_qcsapi_sockrpc --host 1.1.1.2 set_bw wifi0 80
(This sets yr bw to 80)

Just got one from Lazada for RM142. 9/9 sale. Hopefully next week can get back to trying this sucker out. Now if only TM will give me my 800mbps upgrade.

Aztech FG7008GR is RM149 + 4.75 shipping at Lazada.
Used LAZSB99 for additional RM12 off.

Not sure how good as router but 4x4 5Ghz kicks ass especially at this price.

Just received my fg7008gr but not able to setup, when I connect using LAN cable, I can't access the web ui,
Only able to access web ui once, but can't get to work, so I reboot it. But after that can't access again, all the indicator lights are off except power.
On and off for many times already but still no different, tried press the reset button for 10s and release, no changes....

can't get ip address, and even manually set it still cannot ping to router. for wifi, the password provided on the sticker cannot be use, even SSID is different.

UPDATE: it is working now after 30/30/30 reset, can access to Web UI and SSID and password on sticker works.
But i find it very hard to setup this router

added entries in Quick Setting Page but it gone after clicking save, after awhile when i load back my info is there,
but may i know how to connect? the connect button is non clickable button..really don't understand this UI

And in advance mode, trying to modify setting but getting following message, even reboot dry.gif

I always use advanced settings. Configuration steps are the same as innacomm cos they are almost the same since broadcom.

What i did: go to advanced setup, delete everything under WAN and ETH if possible, then under WAN create interface with vlan 500, priority 0 but name INTERNET (case sensitive and v impt be exact), choose pppoe and enter credentials + custom dns. Done.

Repeat same thing for hypptv, create interface vlan 600 name IPTV, choose Bridging, done.
Then go to advanced setup, interface grouping, assign lan port 4 to iptv interface.

Lastly, delete every entry under the QoS settings page, disable ipv6 everywhere, enable upnp (optional)

Once everything works and your wireless ssid + password + channel ok alr, pls DO NOT ever try to change the config again. Keep backup of the config file to be safe. This router firmware is the most shitty i have ever seen, worse than all of the tm router. This aztech is just a beefed up innacomm that support turbo and fast wireless lmao

Iptv i think u try play with the igmp settings abit (eg on off snooping and multicast etc trial and error until it works)

Wireless what channel and region are u on? Can use some sort of wireless analyser to screenshot the bandwidth and channel etc here tks

Cos if u encounter certain bandwidth bugs, need to execute some commands in telnet (some old post above)

Isn't 2.4ghz has better range coverage than 5ghz??

Ok, u have to disable 40mhz on the 2.4ghz band. Normally aztech 40mhz support poor because theres little space to test in sg.. wifi too congested
Anyway the upper/lower control sideband from the pic looks broken, so i think 40mhz is wonky.. So change to 20mhz should solve alr

Also, WMM must be enabled or else will cap at 54mbps link rate (try this first it might be the real issue lol)

The 2.4 Ghz is quite low power 100mW (20dBm). Maybe that's why.
The 5Ghz is 1W which is what I like.
Info from Aztech's IDA SG approval.

100mW is default power for most of 2.4Ghz access points for full signal,
i think the problem here is that when i set the region to Malaysia and Singapore,
it get capped and go even below the maximum txpower allowed of this 2 country,
this doesn't make sense as other routers with these countries as region can works properly and this doesn't go beyond the rules,
might be a bug of this version of firmware or some errors in their presets? who knows... dry.gif

I have been interested to get this router for awhile now.

Just asking before I take the plunge, has anyone managed to get both internet (vlan 500) and HyppTV (vlan 600) working together?

My experience for this router is I use Australia for 5GHz and set channel to 104, it's clean and better coverage than channel 153/157, ofcoz forgot and reconnect to the network is recommended whenever the region change

Now I use it as AP, it has very good hardware but the firmware is a joke. I bought YouHua WR1200JS as router, this model has dual-core 880MHz and 128MB RAM, with Padavan It can handle my 500mbps easily even with adblock on! Which is kindy surprise me due to I just paid about RM60 for this unit, the only cons for this is weak wifi, FG7008GR(AC) has good wifi but bad firmware, so I put them together makes them a strong team, strongly recommended. You may find some details on klseet website

Wow that router is damn cheap! Its their china telecom stock router! Aztech fg7008 used to be singtel stock router too!!

Anyway i figured that u might have to enable fullcone nat for unifi pppoe to work which is kinda retarded (may affect nat acceleration too) cos the aztech malaysia config enables it.
If u ask their firmware support team they will give u this: "Good day! We apologized but the FG7008GR(AC) is a discontinued or end-of-life router so we do not have any more updated firmware." Lol

Actually this is the worst part, the firmware is end of support but the firmware is full of bugs, nothing near to "stable release"...
my router's firmware sot already, now cannot configure 5ghz at all, if click in, the page will hang there, and can't open the web ui again, even on other devices, sometimes it load, but drop down list for region setting will be empty... /.\

Finally unboxed my FG7008GR and did some quick tests. At least I know my first Aztech wasn't a fluke.

iPerf3 30-sec test from Ubuntu server to MacBook Pro Retina 15" which is 3x3. Link speed was 1300Mbps TX on the mbpr. Can't see the RX link speed but assume it's also 1300 Mbps.

[ ID] Interval Transfer Bitrate Retr
[ 5] 0.00-30.00 sec 1.53 GBytes 438 Mbits/sec 0 sender
[ 5] 0.00-30.00 sec 1.53 GBytes 438 Mbits/sec receiver
[ 7] 0.00-30.00 sec 1.53 GBytes 438 Mbits/sec 0 sender
[ 7] 0.00-30.00 sec 1.53 GBytes 437 Mbits/sec receiver

I got that b4.
U need to:
1. Reflash firmware .007 (to reset the wifi driver and quantenna firmware)
2. 30/30/30 Broadcom reset to clear configuration
3. Perform factory default from within web ui (to rewrite the web scripts to nand)

The new wireless driver should not contain DFS bands anymore since that affects reliability. Set region to Singapore for 5ghz works well but no DFS bands present.
Then all is good!

Im not sure why they enabled fullcone nat in the sellers unifi config, could be something to do with a firmware bug of pppoe not working on some peoples .007 firmware (like @soonwai). Theres a goofy warning message if u try to enable it "ONLY IF REQUIRED—DISABLES NETWORK ACCELERATION AND SOME SECURITY" but its a mystery if its actually true since u cant have multiple public ips on pppoe and that this message was placed by broadcom on all their socs.

I have the same problem with iPhone 6s which 2x2. It connects only at 1x1 with the Aztech. I can't actually see that but the iPhone iperfs at a constant 300 Mbps. So I tested an iPad 2017 which is also 2x2 and that was fine. Around 515 Mbps.

Don't have Turbo yet so have not tested the router part of the Aztech.

so, after all these steps, i need to back flash to .003 again in order to use unifi pppoe?? then after that will this problem happen again?
and another issue i'm facing is that sometimes the 5ghz's channel will change by itself, and sometimes can't be detect, or connected but cannot access internet...

Nice. A steal at RM60. It's practically identical to the Mikrotik RB750Gr3 except for the wifi and less ram. The Mikrotik is RM250.

For 5ghz stability just follow above steps should be fine. For unifi if it doesnt work u can either try reflashing .007, .006 or .003

I swear im gonna try making a custom firmware for this. Not lede but a modified aztech firmware with bugs removed (eg pppoe problem, quantenna soc auto reboot issue, 20mhz instead of 80mhz), and preincluded unifi/time/ap profile

I swear im gonna try making a custom firmware for this. Not lede but a modified aztech firmware with bugs removed (eg pppoe problem, quantenna soc auto reboot issue, 20mhz instead of 80mhz), and preincluded unifi/time/ap profile

So firmware .007 confirm compatible with unifi right?
It works only when using Aztech Malaysia config?
or which setting should i tick or chose?
previously using .007 but it can't connect unifi, but then using same settings in .003 and it works...so if i change back to .007, how to do the setting for unifi?

I've found a very interesting tips, when u try to make any changes for 5GHz WiFi, do it in basic tab, don't make any changes in advance tab, as it will cause the 5GHz to 20MHz bandwidth mode, the only change to make in advance tab is change country code, others please do it in basic tab

Yeah its a long standing bug. If u accidentally do it tho luckily theres a fix:

telnet 192.168.1.254 port 48599 or 23 (see which works)
Username admin, password is yr webui password (if login fail then try changing the webui admin pwd and try again)
type sh, press enter
paste call_qcsapi_sockrpc --host 1.1.1.2 set_bw wifi0 80
Done.

Me:
I would appreciate if u could disclose or provide me with the GPL source code for fg7008gr as u had did previously for HW550 (https://www.aztech.com/support/custom/product/GPL/hw550-gpl-sourcecode.htm) due to the bcm63139.
Thanks
Max

Aztech:
Dear Max,

Good day! Please check the link for the firmware of the FG7008GR(AC), https://www.aztech.com/aztech-support/produ...com/fg7008gr-ac. Thanks!

Regards,
Aztech Technical Support Team

Me:
Hi I wish to clarify that i am looking for the GPL source code, not the precompiled firmware for the router. As per GPL licensing requirement, router manufacturer is obliged to provide source code for all derivative works of the software distributed under GPL licensing terms, for example Broadcom sources.

You provide a software product, "FG7008GR(ac) firmware release" (hereafter - "the Product"), available via publicly accessible World-Wide Web URL https://www.aztech.com/aztech-support/produ...com/fg7008gr-ac , licensed under the terms of GNU General Public License.

Under the GPL, you are obliged to release the source of the binary or binaries you distribute.

As I understand from your provided link, you are distributing a binary built from your source, but not making the source of the binary available. That is a GPL violation. Hence I request for the source code of your firmware and all binaries included under the same license.

I obtained the Product in a legal way by the URL provided above, and found that it contains some binary-only components (see listing below). By the right given to me by GNU General Public License, version 3, I would like to request You to provide complete source code for the Product. Please kindly choose the same sources delivery method as you did for the Product - namely, providing them for download via publicly accessible URL. This will ensure your continued compliance with the license.

Thanks
Max

Did u manage to try it with the Unifi TV enabled?

I found my old unit when I was spring cleaning, thought to replace the stock AC1200 from TM with this.

Sorry but I don’t have the FG7008 with me now. It’s somewhere in Advanced/Routing I presume. Maybe someone else can help you.

If you can post screenshots of the routing section of the router config, that might jog my memory.
