finally tested sa profile caps. now i understand why keyboard tests with sa profile caps sounded so nice.

however, for me, sa profile is so tall it's seriously tiring to type on, even with a wrist rest.

nice nice... the thick high profile SA caps gives out a nice solid *tock* especially if you are using linear switches and have a solid case. As you also noticed now, it's really not the best in terms of typing experience. I also can't get used to the high profile. Anyway, it's really just getting use to them or not only. Maybe the non-sculpted (R3 only) SA profile might be easier to adjust to. Just like the Vortex Vibe Massdrop is currently running: Vortex Vibe

I kinda like the minimalist approach of the Vibe. Very clean and simple design. How I wish it's with Kailh removable sockets built in. hahah... smile.gif

yeah i like the key sound a lot. i think you're right about adaptation. let's see i can adapt after a while.

vortex vibe is not my cup of tea. the better form factor for me is 75%, yes, must come with kailh switch sockets lol

edit:

notes - tested krytox gpl 105 for switches (gateron normal red). the application is easier (oil, much easier to spread). it's good for the convenience of lubing switches.

however, essentially, compared to super lube grease, they're the same to me. it's just that for thick lubes you need to control the amount when applied (just very thin layers; always, less is more for switches)

nice nice! Got any krytox gpl 105 leftovers willing to let go? I also wanna try try... Got a bunch of Gaterons silent blacks on the way from KBDfans. Will definitely replace the silent reds with them. Right now, only the modifiers are on silent blacks. The reds seems to be a little too light for my typing. Used to be okay but now backside itchy, wanna give the blacks another try. hehehe...

Also bought a wooden GH60 case, DZ60 s.steel plate and some screwed in stabs from KBDfans and YMDK. Spending too much money on this hobby... hahaha... bye.gif

that's one of the board profiles that i wanna build later. still haven't had the time to source for compatible cases that i want.

well yeah it's a hobby so it's worth spending on hehe (especially when there are still so many unknowns in my mind)

I don't even know if the GH60 wooden case will fit the DZ60 plate or not. Hopefully everything will workout fine. Else, further wait and parts sourcing again... sigh...

uh? i believe it will fit. i have checked the top plate layout before. it's actually for generic 60% cases.

Alrighty then. Now is the waiting game. In the mean time, I'll keep myself busy with more lubing work. hehe... smile.gif

yeah lubing is tedious, but it's worth the efforts for switches and stabs that are not pre-lubed. to me lubing alone is a significant improvement for mkbs, so i die die also must lube lol

i actually suspect varmilo does something to their switches also. all my prebuilts with cherry mx red do not have the same level of smoothness for switches in my varmilo with the same red

For beginner who first time want to buy MK, which one is better choice? Tecware Phantom or Fuhlen SM680R? Prefer TKL and only this 2 within my budget...

Without looking further and judging based on the key legends alone, Fuhlen is a BIG NO! haha...

if possible you should try both out, especially different switch types first (the common ones are linear red, tactile brown, and clicky blue).

between the two i think tecware phantom because it can do switch hot-swapping. (meaning you can replace switches when they are at fault, or swap the whole set with different switch types)

haha yeah they're less optimal but caps are replaceable so it's not an issue i guess

Was doing my Gateron silent blacks lubing chores last night and then got itchy and tried lubing the Kailh box switches. Really no idea where to lube them. They are really smooth out of the box if compared to Cherry MX or even Gaterons silents (then again, Gateron silents are famous for being scratchy). I tried lubing the side but there's really not much difference before and after. Not quite sure how to get this effect: Kailh box red lubed vs no lubed

Check and lube all contact points and springs. That’s what i did. For testing i even lubed the whole housing walls and all sides of stems.

The outcome: still no difference compared to stock hehe

yes pre-lubed, and have the least wobbles haha so they're all good even at stock. i think it makes sense since they have this ip56 standard to follow. with everything good at stock, users don't need to open them up for lubing, spoiling whatever that meets that standard.

what kailh has done for their box switches are not bad. i also hope kailh box silent come out soon hehe

.. and about spring customization in kailh box, some said you can use alps springs for custom weights.

notes for gk64 (this applies to all compatible bottom cases): here are some information regarding replacement screws, in case you misplaced them.

1. screw size - for screws that secure top plate to the bottom cases, the stock size is m2*4. you can also use m2*5 and m2*6. (in fact, you should get at least m2*5; i use m2*6 because it fits nicely, and it has more screw threads to secure the parts)

2. screw types - for screws that secure top plate to the bottom cases, you can use either countersunk/flat head type (i.e. the same type as the stock screws), or the ones for securing pcb to the top plate (round headed type). as long as the size is the same as above, they will fit perfectly.

edit: there are plenty of choices at taobao, and they are very affordable.

the same screws can be used for custom cases, but i guess it depends on the way top plate is mounted. for prebuilt gk64, screws are used to secure top plate + pcb + bottom case (pcb is sandwiched between top plate and bottom case); while for 5-degree case, screws are used to secure pcb + bottom case only. so you will need to use shorter screws (in my case i use m2*5, round headed type like the above)

most probably not locally for relatively rare switches like cherry mx silver. you can always get it online. (try google)
