what to ask.. what is the different between tecware phantom rgb and tecware phantom elite?
same tkl...
*
Tecware Phantom RGB can only hot-swap Outemu switches, Tecware Phantom Elite can hot-swap all types of Cherry switches as well as Gateron, Kailh etc

QUOTE(Sup2Nic @ Nov 14 2019, 10:45 AM)
Recently I sent my Tecware board with Gateron Brown switches to get it lubed with stabilizer tuned to Mr.Grexer (not sure if he in this thread). Now I know how is it feel to type on lubed switches and I'm loving it!

I think I just poisoned myself. Now, with budget of RM 1K is it possible for me to get completely custom 60%, 65% or even 75% size board (including switches, plate, aluminium/brass case, custom keycaps)?
*
Yes, I'm around, just less active in forum these days. wink.gif Lubing the switches and tuning the stabs is considered the first step for improving the typing feels of a keyboard. biggrin.gif

With a budget of RM1k, I guess you can get a decent build 65% or 75% with an aluminium case, but depend on which keycap set you go for, might still be within budget or slightly more.

QUOTE(Vincent6596 @ Nov 14 2019, 11:35 AM)
what is the feature between lubed switch and normal switch?? confused.gif  confused.gif
*
Lubing switches increases the smoothness of the switch, quiets down the switch (most of the time, depending on the lube used). As for whether it feels lighter or heavier, it also depends on the lube used. This is something you probably have to try out in real life to catch the difference.

QUOTE(niakulah @ Nov 14 2019, 05:44 PM)
I know not all plates are designed for switch top removal, I'm not 100% sure if it can be done on mine?
[attachmentid=10352880]
[attachmentid=10352881]

I'm tempted to get the first tool and try this on my keyboard. From the way the switch disassembles, I think it needs hardly any clearance to slide out? IDK.

*
Not all plates are designed for switch top removal, definitely not pre-builds, so your keyboard would not support switch top removal. In actual fact, I think switch top removal plates are being phased out nowadays and frankly, after building an amount of custom keyboards, those plates really causes the switch to not sit properly in its place.

As for switch openers, there are easier ways to open a switch if you desolder it.

Stupid question - The switches provided with switch testers, are they usable? As in I can solder them to a real keyboard and use them?

I want to make certain keys on my keyboard with Cherry MX browns heavier. Thinking to use MX Clears and Tactile Grey. Theoretically I think I want only the spacebar to use grey, which is why I want to order a tester to be sure. And if I am correct that I only need 1 grey and a bunch of clears, I'd have the 1 usable grey in the tester already?

Or is it not advisable for other reasons, e.g. they use switches that failed QC or something for testers.

Bought a Leopold FC750R out of impulse during 11.11 sales, was pretty cheap. But unfortunately, half the red keys came with the infamous "pinging" sound that Cherry is known for - meaning they weren't lubed properly.

Darn. Damn lazy to open every switch to lube.

Desolder all and redo all the lubing.
But, this pinging is related to their steel plate and spring, you can put some foam to reduce ping.

You sure? The pinging is from the spring within the switches that resonates with the shaft no? There's already foam (not dense enough though) on the underside of all Leopold boards.

Leopold don't have good foam to begin with, there is none in between the pcb and plate.
You can view the photo i taken.. This 1 is leopold tkl, same kind of foam that you board.

yes you can use them for real boards. actually they are real switches.

leopold boards are one of the solid commercial options. unfortunately, they still use everything stock. hence their switches have pings. it's normal. they do use foam between plate and pcb, but sparingly (as shown in the pictures by quovadis123)

like i said before, there are obvious gaps between top-notch commercial boards and entry-level custom builds. since you know about switch pings and all, you should build custom builds instead.

Great. Was hoping to hear that. So I've ordered my testers, will solder a gray and a clear on my board. If I'm right I'll get more clears.

Then I'm done. Endgame. Yeah right. tongue.gif

it's better to stop counting lol

these days i collect 64-key 60% and 65% reference bare bones with my preferred combos. it's more practical for me to store them

now still waiting for options about keyboard constructions, the last one that i wanna try out is gasket mount. so far, bottom-plate and top-plate mounting (kbd67 and kbd67 mkii rgb, respectively; both are similar) are better options for good singular sound and feels, compared to tray-mounts

yes thick double-shot abs are like that.

for sa profile caps, you can try maxkey or domikey. for gmk cherry profile caps, you can try gmk wob first; alternatively, try jtk.

personally i prefer enjoypbt dye-sub caps more. (because i like sound and feel of thick pbt hehe)

this is usually not brought up to attention because we all do this when we build our customs. it's better to inspect every part that will go into the build. sometimes, these parts are produced with different batches of internal components during assembly in factory. you might end up getting the same part, but with different type of internal components.

one good example is gateron white 67g that i bought from kbdfans. (it's possible that these sellers mixed different batches when they sell switches) they use two types of springs, one with lesser coils than the other. in order to minimize the potential inconsistency due to springs, just choose either one for the build.

Finally lubed all the red switches, jeez that took some time and was so boring to do. No more any of that infamous scratchy Cherry feel and no more pinging, it wasn't the steel plate to begin with.
