I was just taking off all my keycaps on the xd24 cospad to see how in the world I am getting a subtle backlight even with all LEDs on the bottom of the PCB. Turns out it's because the tempered glass/stalinite bottom of the case reflect quite a bit of light back up. That is the main difference with my main board xd84 pro which is in a full plastic case.

[attachmentid=10447590]

Here I was admiring my pretty pink and purple board when I get an email from zfrontier that says they're releasing stock for GMK Vaporwave (among others) midnight tonight!

Is this fate? RIP wallet.

My shoes and socks today as well WTF!

Is it hypocritical if I don't want to pay the GMK tax when my shoes cost more than any GMK set?

Hi Guys, I'm not too sure if the switch is having issue or user problem.

Last year OCT, I did my very first mechanical KB purchase and it was Ducky One 2 SF MX Brown.

It's just coming to the 5th month and I noticed the letter "R" having issue like single press would result with 'rr' and sometimes if I press r -> e -> t i may end up with 'rert'.

I'm quite annoyed by this issue because my work do not allow me to keep having typo error in the command.

Would like to ask is this a common issue with mechanical keyboard? and also, anyway to have a quick fix instead of ending back for warranty?

--------------------------------------

Just did some Google and apparently it seems to be quite a common issue... Wonder how troublesome is it to send it back for warranty...
*
It's called chatter. You can google around for solutions, but I think most involve desoldering the switch.

bow is ok also smile.gif

Did a quick experiment with a rotary tool and some polishing compound. This has some potential!

Guys, I'm kinda stuck on what to do/buy now. Here are my options:

1. XD84 Aluminium/Tempered Glass case plus Aliaz switches

Pros
-Exact match with my Cospad
-Nice anodized alu finishing
-Nice backlighting and underglow
-USB-C
-Relatively cheap RM 465
-Programmable

Cons
-Will need to desolder my entire XD84 Pro PCB(different plate design). Had bad experience of killing a PCB before.
-End up with used XD84 plastic case/plate/switches which I may not be able to successfully sell.
-I'm getting tired of non staggered arrow/F row/navigation keys

2. IKBC MF108 v3 plus Aliaz switches

Pros
-Full size
-Full alu case
-Per key RGB
-USB C
-I can permanently keep my Cospad at home if I need a numpad with my laptop
-I can resell a used a complete XD84 Pro keyboard (hopefully)
-I can resell 108 unused switches

Cons
-Expensive RM 850 + RM 260 = RM 1110
-Plate mount stabs
-No underglow
-Not programmable
-Only available black
-Need to desolder 108 switches! Lead free solder! Danger!

3. Gok 7V plus Aliaz switches

Pros
-Endgame level board
-Staggered arrow/F row/navigation keys
-Maintain compact-ish 75% + Cospad
-Crazy beautiful endgame pretty stainless steel bling weight
-Did I say endgame?

Cons
-Crazy expensive - RM 2000 + RM 200 = RM 2200
-I'll be lucky if I can receive the board this time next year (Group buy)

4. Leopold FC900 plus Aliaz switches

Pros
-Relatively cheap RM 488 (Lazada birthday price) + RM 250 = RM 738
-Full size
-Foam
-I can permanently keep my Cospad at home if I need a numpad with my laptop
-I can resell a used a complete XD84 Pro keyboard (hopefully)
-I can resell 104 unused switches

Cons
-ABS case
-No underglow
-Not programmable
-Need to desolder 104 switches! Lead free solder! Danger!
-MINI USB!

like irsyadfy said, it's up to you. they are all good choices. you should pick the one that is closest to your preferences.

personally i like custom kits that have more part options, like plate types, hot-swap and solderable pcbs, etc. for 75%, i think bella from kbdfans is ok.

not really into commercial boards now, but that ikbc mf108 i believe has a damn hefty metal case.
haha yeah the color but i just don't bother about it anymore. the performance is really outstanding.
*
Bella is nice though I think the switch opener is too gimmicky. I'm number 600+ on the waiting list. But for the first batch coming in, I'm not particularly interested in any of the 3 colours.

kibod is personal preference. u need to answer ur own question.
whistling.gif

on serious note, kinda hard to answer base on how much would u want to spend.
if i have a lot of money laying around, end game will always be the answer.
so base on ur cons,
1. if u dont like a layout, why would u but a new kibod with the same layout.
2. i like to be having several kibod(diff layout) than 1 kibod bcoz i change my kibod base on the situation im in. but mind u, my kibods are cheapos.
3. if u r afraid of breaking ur PCB, there are few guys here can help u with that with money. bcoz from what i see, u dont mind spending some money to get what u want. so better be safe than sorry. u might lose the experience, but at least u dont lose ur PCB.
4. again, kinda hard to pick a kibod for someone bcoz, i can say its better to have full size, then ull say, nahh, will be hard to carry around(+ u have the cospad), ill say better to have xd84, ull say, its non-staggered me no likey. so on n so forth. so my advice, buy 1st, think later.  whistling.gif

anyway good luck on ur new kibod !  notworthy.gif

Buy first think later huh? RIP wallet.

mainly from taobao (from shops like kbdfans, ymdk, and many more). it's easier for me to find parts there compared to other places.

for pcb, usually i just use generic 60% pcbs, like dz60 and ymdk non-led pcb. i don't use bluetooth module, so i'm not sure about it.
*
How would you rate YMDK products' quality vs kbdfans and kprepublic?

Kbdfans>kprepublic>ymdk?

yes always explore for options. usually there are more than one shop that sell the same or similar stuff, and i just like to have options, especially parts.

they said there were 'issues' in terms of key cap compatibility in r1. (which, well, at least i found none for jtk, gmk, or epbt)

Yeah I read that PSA on reddit. But so far not many other people complained about it. I'll see for myself when I get my first KAT GB set in October!

1800 layout by Leopold  & Keychron K4 is so good. Why aren't more manufacturers making them? Well technically Tecware had it for their Phantom 96 but it's more of a hassle with the toggle keys than anything.

What's your opinion guys?

The Leopold FC980 is a 1800 layout.
Keychron K4 is a 96% layout.

I don't like the 1800 layout much. For the sake of 3 inches table space, you need to live with a 1.75U right shift and 1U numpad zero. Might as well go full size unless you really really need that 3 inches.

Gateron Brown. Gateron common switches are like Gateron White, Red, Yellow, Black, Brown, Blue and Green.

Gateron brown is similar like Cherry MX brown, but with a little lighter compared to Cherry Brown, but smoother.
*
I was about to say the same thing, except that to my fingers the Gateron brown feels slightly heavier than Cherry MX brown?

If you get everything from KPrepublic, including assembly, about RM540 on Aliexpress.

Case

PCB Choose PCB only and not any of the other kits

Stabs. Choose GH60 plus 1 setEdit - Actually if you are sure you want a 6.25U spacebar, you can choose the GH60 1 set. Difference is it doesn't come with a 7U stab.

Switches. I recommend the 5 pin since the PCB accepts it. Makes it easier to align. But you're not installing yourself so up to you. How many pieces depends on what layout you want. Check on the PCB page for possible layouts.

Choose assembly switch 80

All you need now is keycaps and a USB C cable.

But since you like the NYM96, why not the XD96?

if you want the full bling then clear type films is a must. standard colorful switch films relevant when you have black housing like this

Thanks, that is a very nice aesthetic. Have you tried it on clear housings on a board with SMD RGB?

I have read some redditors saying that it makes almost no difference in the light transmission to use coloured films but I don't always trust it when only 1 user says that.

Personally have not used the stickers type before, but I've used the film type before, it would not affect the lightning as there's nothing over the LED slot.

Also, according to some of my friends whom had used the sticker type before, given the minimal price difference, they rather use the film type coz it's a lot easier to work with.
*
OK so I should qualify that I will not be using backlit keycaps. I'll be relying on the light diffusion effect of the transparent housing to get an underglow between keycaps.

Since the SMD LEDs will transmit its light 180 degrees, some of it will be blocked by the film. Question is, would it be enough to matter?
