Guys, with all the reports of power adapters exploding and batteries catching fire; are you sure you want to do this?

Sometimes, it's cheaper to spend a little. Certainly safer.

I do agree on this. But some of us here do not have the liberty to spent money easily. The only option is to repair it (by hook or by crook... DIY). So I think, this is the best way for those on a low income.... like me (sigh)

To my surprise, even after my own DIY on my adaptors, it still good and running for the 2nd year now

@AppleMacUser,
If it works then good. Just be cautious when ur using it - and ensure the tape doesn't melt due to heat.

Also, definition of 'low income' is unique to most individuals. In my opinion, most of us would say we're earning enough - but hey, at the very least u have sufficient $ to get urself a computer. What about families (of 4!) who lives of RM1k per month?

Be thankful with what u have biggrin.gif

Thank you for your concern. After 2 of my adaptor gone KO, I am now become so darn particular of its well-being and the usage itself. I am thankful what I have earn now but the fact that I cant afford to buy a new adaptor when you most needed is very much disappoint me.....

No worries... I got 2 of it now and working as good as it is... icon_rolleyes.gif

Hi guys, I finally summoned enough courage to crack open my power adapter (well, after the power adapter spitting out fire sparks!).

Totally burnt out power adapter.

Got it open with a hammer, screwdriver & both my feet to hold the adapter while I hammer it furiously. Did it in 30 mins time and carelessly poked my palm bleeding while trying to pry it open with the screwdriver. Dang. But finally made it to work again and type this entry.

power adapter no risk of exploding la, melting down maybe. Biggest hazard with a cracked adapter like that would be frying some tikus, assuming ur smart enough not to use ur finger to poke it.

Haha anyway, i oso think shouldve used saw to cut it open la. With a huge crack like that <(no pun intended), so unsightly beside ur nice mac.

Saw? easy to say then done, have both of you tried before?
Like I said, the diificult part not opening the casing, but saperating the internal from the casing.

Yes Wei, it was very difficult to separate the internal with the casing. It turns out that there is some kind of alluminium heat sink that is hard glued to the casing and the circuit board itself. I took great care opening it...that's when I poked my hand bleeding.
