Who care about GSMarena's news while they always copied other sources without any verification.

When we talk about Xiaomi news, always refer to Xiaomi official weibo (twitter in China). It represents Xiaomi official, so their announcement is the most accurate one.

In Xiaomi official weibo, they posted a poll and asked the people to vote which part of phone spec they wish to have surprise. The result is not important. The one we should concern about is the hint that given by the Xiaomi official. Apparently, Xiaomi official voted the camera. Indirectly telling us that there's a surprise on the camera performance of the upcoming Redmi Note 5 Pro China version.
If you ask me which one to believe, of course I will always trust their official twitter.

Asus released specs for their ZF 5 models. The mid range model has similar specs to the RN5 pro with the Snapdragon 636, OIS but it seems to be alot lighter at 155g vs 180g

Any particular reason? For me a decent option for custom roms is a plus and both brands seem to have similar level of community support.

News said China's version (which will be brought into Malaysia market soon)  will have different camera spec compared to India's version. Not sure it's better spec or weaker spec.

i own few xiaomi product, phone, tablet and camera, cctv... etc
the product quality is below average...
mostly hardware problem...
eg screen yellowish, wifi chip ko, power chip ko, phone+charger+cable burn, battery swollen...

and speaking of custom roms, xiaomi hv really bad reputation in releasing oss kernel... (recent case A1 aka android one no source code)

compared to asus, it hv excellent reputation in xda community

Nowdays people no longer have interest on custom rom coz performance not much diff & battery drain faster than stock rom..

Which era you are coming from? Zenfone 2 series? Asus in XDA literally dead already since Zenfone 3. I dont even see people having Zenfones with custom roms anymore. Zen Ui is already good as it is.

Yes Xiaomi phones generally have lower build quality than other brand. But i dont dare to buy Zenfone above 1k anyway.

You probably have more than your share of bad luck with Xiaomi products. To me they are decent to good quality and deliver more than comparably priced products from what I've seen in their budget and mid price range.

Agreed about the late release of source code but the MiA1 source code was released over a month ago which isn't too bad.

What do you mean same time? Same time release? Then the answer is no. We have wait for at least 2-3 months before it comes into our market. You can always choose AP set if you can't wait.

Just what sort of problems did you actually face by device model?

The yellowish screen is a known qc issue for some Xiaomi phones but I don't think Xiaomi is above the industry average for wifi/power ic failures. There are many teardown reviews for Xiaomi products and they consistently show quite good quality/design for the selling price without cutting too many corners and defintely not on components that impact consumer safety.

Some of the problems on Xiaomi phones may be due to an unstable power grid which is common in India or using poor quality chargers. Or custom roms that overclocks the cpu and kills the phone by overheating. And theres the issue of Xiaomi fakes.
