1. Degree issued by the PMS

2. BEFORE you even think about residencies, you will need to concern yourself with landing that internship first, to be registered as a doctor with the respective medical council/body. With the increasing number of medical graduates in both UK and Australia, the spots available for international students for internship places has just about diminished in Australia, and diminishing in the UK.

Thanks for the reply.I just had a few more questions. The pre-clinical phase lasts for 2 and a half years in Malaysia.Assuming I accept the place for the semester beginning in August 2012 I would be done around February 2015.Since most of the UK partner medical schools have academic years beginning in August does that mean from the period I'll be done(in February) to August of that year I'll be wasting time?(Wouldn't that mean the pre-clinical phase in Malaysia lasts 3 years?).Oh and if I'm graduating with the PMS's degree does that mean I'll be a non-IMG in that particular country? If so wouldn't that put me in the same position as say a UK citizen graduating from a British medical university when applying for a foundation year position?(Or does nationality play a bigger role when you apply for FY1?)

I hope limeuu will respond to your queries, but as far as I understand, you will not be considered an IMG. Once an international UK med grad is eligible for FYP, then you will be in the same position as the UK citizen. So one needs to be eligible first, whereas the UK citizens will be automatically eligible for the FYP. There is a point system being used now, and I am unclear if nationality is one of the parameters used in the calculation. I think you can go to the website and download a pdf info sheet on how to apply etc.

many people would welcome the short gap to do things they have always wanted to do...and i know people who purposely choose such choices so they can have the 1/2 year off....

if matched to uk, you will be enrolled in a uk uni, and graduate with the pms degree.....

at this point, international students in uk unis are not considered img, but 'home students'.....with current numbers, there will be enough f1 places for all uk graduates at least for 2013....

the new points system does NOT take into account nationality.....and f1 doctors get 'automatic' extension of their tier 4 visa for the f1 and f2 years, so there is no immigration issue, at least for f1/f2....

subsequently, if matched into a postgraduate rotation, then one normally will be granted a tier 2 visa....

after 5 years, one can apply for an ilr....

Even in Cambridge or Harvard, the parties are more wild than you imagine. Play hard, study smart.

this is msia, so don't expect too much....there are the usual activities and parties, but the boozing you will have to do on your own elsewhere....
