QUOTE(SPS @ Feb 19 2009, 03:10 PM)
Being a Muslim does not automatically qualify oneself to be employed by an employer operating in one of the gulf states.

The Middle Eastern based employers are extremely objective and it depends ENTIRELY on your competency/experience/relevant knowledge before you can be worthy of consideration to be hired by them.  Religious beliefs has ZERO implications in the hiring process.

Unlike the Malaysian GLCs.

What I said is if you muslim, have competency bla bla bla bla, and you based at those arabian country, you will not lose a lot of things in life, no extreme culture shock.halal food everywhere. mosque to perform prayer. I was not questioning nor misrepresenting your earlier posting - I am merely highlighting the fact that the hiring process for working professionals is by and large done in an objective manner by gulf based employers which in itself is an add-on to your posting.

What the heck does this have to do with racism? You got a massive racist chip on your shoulder?

1. Halal food everywhere, but same applies to non-halal food.

QUOTE
Abu Dhabi within the UAE is an Islamic country, yes?

Abu Dhabi is at the seat of influence among members of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), yes?

I had a rude culture shock this morning when I turned up for breakfast at the Beach Rotana hotel. The first food counter I walked past was labelled P O R K. It was situated alongside other food counters serving an array of international and regional guests.

A culture shock because, even back home, the most liberally progressive and the most modern of Kuala Lumpur hotels don't do what Abu Dhabi hotels are doing. (My local friends told me Le Meridien Riyadh is no different in handling pork station at its F&B outlets. Open and non-discriminatory, just prominent labelling.)

So be warned, conservative Muslim out there.

2. Muslim is not a race, how you manage to linked it with racial discrimination?

have to disagree with this, company in malaysia pay us based on current market salary, in malaysia only, but if u work overseas, say dubai, they have to pay maybe 4-5 times more than that, due to ur status as an expatriate, and also lack of expertise in their own country, big money but no expertise, furthermore all expenses for ur wife and kids will be bare by them, do u think company in malaysia will do that?

To add on, one more thing that i realized after years of working, you need to be specialized in just one area to get high pay, not multi skills like this, multi skills is good for yourself, but when it comes to hiring, if your wannabe future boss see ur resume and it is full of skills, he will wonder, how well can you perform all your skills, end up, normal admin job, like Walbur said.
