haha i thought you don't want Acer, the highest performance and graphic wise still is Asus G1s. Second at this moment is Acer Gemstone. I think next one will HP HDX if it ever come to malaysia shore.

Stylish i will always vote for HP.
But really stylish does not come in raw power. That why i still prefer like Asus or Acer.

themagnificentman,

to me, I would actually go for option 1.

The computer that you might be able to purchase, is quite low end these days and will only have a life span of about, 2 years MAXIMUM.......

The motherboard and graphics card already a dying breed (Believe me, I own 2 Socket 939 Systems and it's impossible to find a new processor..... have to hit up LYN trade zone for that one)......

However, the laptops in option one provides quite alot of robust power and with the left over cash, you can add in more RAM or HDD space.....

That's just my 2 cents.....

hey guyz, would like u guyz opinion for sth:

in tat range of RM5k,
option 1:
I can get a Benq S41 or a gemstone with a decent 8600 graphics and most probably 1GB or 2GB RAM

option 2:
If i say I'm able to get a used desktop without LCD for less RM1500 with the specs below:(almost 2yrs)
AMD64 Socket 939 Opteron 146 with original HSF (Boxed)
ABIT KN8 Ultra with Zalman CNPS9500LED
Leadtek 6600GT Extreme PCI-e with 2 bundled game
80GB Hitachi SATA (Serial CBF483XC)
160GB Hitachi D/Star 7200/8M PATA (Serial TCC38KDA)
20GB Maxtor PATA
Logitech Internet Pro Desktop Black Keyboard & Mouse
BenQ DW1625 Lightscrib
WinTV-PCI-FM TV Card (Boxed)
Audigy 2 ZS with Creative T5400 5.1 Speakers & Creative Rear Speaker Stands
Verudium VorteX 430Watts
Coolermaster Centurion 5 with Side Panel & ACRyan UV light tubes and cables

RM500 i spend it on LCD.

remaining RM3k. I need a laptop anyhow. SO shud i settle for this DELL AMD turion with 2GB ram, DVDcombo, 3yrs warranty, ATIx300 integrated, but with win XP. its around RM3k.
which option shud i choose? 1st or 2nd. i'm more to the 2nd option. but can any1 recommend any lappies with a good spec below RM3k?and is reliable? I'm not so sure about DELL's quality some say its ok ok, some say, after 1 yr, bye bye..
*
get option 1 more better ^ ^
haha ...

I'm actually planning for a PC, but many reasons make me changed my mid to have a laptop. But a laptop can suit my use for work (graphic and programming), and multimedia (video authoring, audio authoring and Games) ... really hard to find.

Until I go buy an issue of MAXIT and spot the Asus G1 and G2. Both performance comes very close, just that G2 have a larger scenn. But I think G1 is acceptable.

But when I check around for proce tag... I think I wanna go jump sea. It nearly RM7K and it is way to high... T_T Unless there are some fortune drop on my head...

I search around for a good yet low price laptop. And I figure that BenQ got some cheaper products. And I spot a Joybook S41 that says to be just RM 4000, specs are:

C2D T7100
Nvidia 8600M (GS)
512Mb DDR2-667
http://www.benq.com/products/joybook/?prod...=specifications

The price tag sounds good for such performance. But is this laptop "tahan" ?

----------

Btw, anyone know what price (RM) for MSI GX700 ?

Alright, my reason to have a latop:
- programming (web & softwares - Adobe GoLive, Visual basic, MySQL ...)
- graphic (Photoshop)
- video/animation authoring (After Effect)
- gaming (hopefully can play NFS Pro Street and other modern games)
- network (network range in Sarawak is very worst, so plan to have a mobile network)

It is much better to have a personal laptop to do my work rather than using public PC outside (home no network, as I mention why above). My main works are graphic, animation, and programming for web, as well as I will use my own mobile network to access my server at semenanjung.

And I also a gamer, looking for a new system to paly modern games. My old PC hardwares all out of the gaming spec list...

And I'm also an IT student, college PC very noob and I really tak tahan using them, if I have a laptop I can work faster as well as won't waist my time around.

Budget will be around 4K.

----------

CPU are C2D for sure, 1GB DDR2, around 100Gb of storage, screen resolution of 1280 or higher, any suitable GPU.

Yes I did travel around (school lah), and with a laptop I will can do my work much easier that I able to access directly to my web server. Currently cannot because worried about security issue. I don't wnt to access my web server via public PC.

Also, with laptop and the mobile network i won't short of resource anymore when I working at home. It really frustrating to have limited resource around...

Even thought I'm in Sarawak but I think I will ask my friend in KL to help me buy laptop since it much more expensive in Sarawak. I want to save as much as possible since I'm still a student, life so hard.

chill, i understand, some of us here are students too. Unless ur games are too demanding, i dont see why u need such a powerful gpu laptop. Get a very powerful cpu and ram as u could, as light as u could as u will travel alot. Unless u dont care if ur back killin ya, u can always go for a 3kg and above notebook. Try something lower, trust me it will saves some of ur days especially during those days where u wake up and realize ur already late. and saves ur back too.

Not really worry about the weight, since I'm rarely late for school. Late also no problem, tutor even late than student .. LOLz

Yes storage is a problem. Multimedia content are large, and games today also are HDD killer. I don't mind to play games on low res with medium quality though.

Most of my school projects (presentation) I also will make them multimedia heavy (just to show off...LOlz)

And when you will need this laptop? If it is for schooling, try to hold as long as u can, or wait for the back-to-school deal if they have one. U really want to make use of Centrino Pro (codenamed Santa Rosa) as it is faster and last longer (batt life).

Ok if weight is not a problem, storage will be. So look up for more storage and cpu power. U said u wouldnt mind gaming in low or med, which is good. Then u dont need such fancy gpu, in fact it is not good to have such powerful gpu that will have more heat on ur laptop. If ur not using it, so why bother. Get best storage, cpu and ram according to ur budget. john jay is researching for u i believe.

Hmm, I'm still collecting money though. According to my work schedule I should finish some of my projects around September or October. But things may not happened as planned though. Still, I just got offer for extra school loan, and I'll see if there any extra they put into my bank tongue.gif

So it not really now, but it soon. No way i gonna live without a laptop... Everyday go CC is very very wallet pain. Laptop battery life not really a big concern, cuz power socket everywhere in college.

Argh, any freelance website projects? wanna earn more and improve my skills. Curently play with PHP and MYSQL... (LOLz) sweat.gif

Since I will need to wait for another while, I hope there are more better laptops comming out.

i think more suitable either BenQ S41, if need slightly more power/storage then gemstone will fill up pretty well. At this moment that is the two laptops that is fulfill your requirement.
