Was browsing through tp-link forum and found this beta firmware anyone willing to test it out ?
I am still using tm's unstable af firmware and still finding for better firmware before the point of no return.
*
Not much changes from C1200v1_eu_tm-up-1.0.0 Build 20180403
Only these two lines are removed for the C1200v1_eu-up-1.1.3 Build 20180502 from firewall.include:
iptables -t filter -I zone_wan_forward -j MINIUPNPD
iptables -t nat -I zone_wan_prerouting -j MINIUPNPD

Probably it was done to solve that UPNP issue as reported by the poster at TP-Link forum.

C1200 V1 has 5ghz beamforming only. It can be found at Advanced, System Tools, System Parameters = an option called TX Beamforming.

-.- Do read the warning before you update.
I am tired of dealing with people who regret updating to EU firmware.

fak yes....finally AP mode!

few days ago i was digging and found out Malaysia firmware does not have AP mode but instead EU does have.

As usual, scare of bricking i decided not to upgrade the EU firmware into it. Now it seems like is the time rclxm9.gif

going to use this as 5ghz extension of my current 5ghz network.

Oi.....EU firmware has limited 5Ghz channels = 36, 40, 44, 48 only

Reconsider it......

For one, the higher channel U-NII-3 is supposed to have higher power output (longer range etc)........ which isn't the case with C1200. I tested it after gaining root access. dry.gif

Without it, maybe the only benefit is less 5ghz interference between your neighbours' router?

I see.....

and i just found a article talking about 5ghz power but not what it does laugh.gif https://www.digitalairwireless.com/articles...-5ghz-uk-part-1

in the meantime....after reading all this...i found out my main wireless router has band 149 ~ 161 ....should i change to that higher band? laugh.gif

currently im running on band 36.

The C1200 im having was actually an spare router due to the subpar performance it gave in the 5ghz. so i decided to keep it in the store room.

I got it from contract renew

Not sure about your main router, but you could try the higher band 161 (165 will appear if you select 20mhz only) and compare the dbm using wifi analyser app.

For the c1200, it is disappointing.
Channel 36 signal strength (in dbm) is stronger than channel 165.

My main router is asus RT-AC1200HP.

yeah....choosing 20mhz and channel 165 does appear. So far after changing to channel 161 my signal has not dropped as im still quite close to it. Never try go further, as 5ghz is very dissapointing when i was in channel 36. I assume is going to be same.

Guess if malaysia official firmware does not provide AP mode, i think i gotta flash it to EU then. And set it in AP mode to beam my existing 5ghz coverage to third floor, so i can stream blu-ray directly from my main PC drool.gif

Try to get the -dbm result for comparison before you make permanent change on 5ghz channel selection.

Here is my c1200;
36 = -44dBm
161 = -52dBm
(The closer to 0dBm, the better the signal)
The fact the -dbm drops as frequency get higher means c1200 transmit same power level as U-NII-1 channel.
If it is transmitting at at 1W when higher channel is selected, probably the -dbm would be similar or stronger than channel 36.

Anyway, the EU version AP mode is exactly same as described at https://www.tp-link.com/us/faq-2066.html.

owh mayn.....seems like my router has the same fate as this tplink c1200.

switching to higher channel does not really transmit at high wattage, my dbm flung about 70~80dbm for channel 161

Now i switched back to band 36 and the dbm hover at 60dbm and sometimes reaching 50ish dbm.

In addition, i wonder if advance settings could compensate that? i never mess around with the advance tab setting since day 1 laugh.gif everything is left default.

Anyhow....i wait for a bit more see if Malaysia firmware version come out with AP mode. If cant wait i will just flash it laugh.gif

Well.....my condolences........ console.gif

Since you have nothing to lose with higher channels (other than possible interference issue from neighbour who use same channel 36 - 48), might as well as upgrade to EU firmware for AP mode?
It is one way firmware upgrade, there is no going back (although I got back my 5ghz channels [36-48 and 149-165] through the root access)

EDIT:
Nope, no 'advanced' settings can solve it. sad.gif

Although 5ghz beamforming could help a bit.....

About interference from neighbour, no worries on that as I'm the only one dominating the 5ghZ band for all this while. Meanwhile the 2.4ghz started to get congested recently.

Mind share how u get the root access? As I'm accessing by using admin and not sure is it having same privilege as root.

This one way firmware upgrade does it take away support for uNifi? Coz is main router is dead I might reuse this c1200 as backup before new one arrive.

I was saying root SSH access to the router.....it is different than your "admin" access.
Go to LEDE forum and search for c1200, scroll down to post 40+ something.

The EU firmware upgrade doesn't take away support for unifi. I am using EU firmware and hypptv (LAN Port 1 if you select the Unifi preset) working as usual.

Ah...pardon me, I just check C1200v1_eu_tm-up-1.0.0 Build 20180403 and C1200v1_eu_tm-up-boot-1.0.0 Build 20180208, apparently, there is no beamforming setting for both. console.gif
Seem like all Malaysia c1200 v1 firmware don't have 5Ghz beamforming doh.gif .

Root access is only gained by Telnet or SSH into the router via PuTTy. To be honest, it is all CLI by that point and you need to know what specific commands to input, otherwise, you may brick the router lol.

Last time, TM use to give two different access for login @ browser. One is root and another admin.

I don't think there is issue with the firmware.
Decompress it first.
