similar thing happened to my mom before. her note 5 was locked by maxis because the previous user did not pay his bills. sent it to a phone repair shop, they repaired it for only rm150. but that price was for note 5, for note 8 might be a little higher. the repair guy said maxis blocked the imei for that phone so he just changed/replaced a new imei no for the phone, no problem ever since

There you go. Short remedy for your friends problem. At least now he can use his phone functions to make/receive calls and data functions.

There is another possible way to permanently overcome this issue if your friends situation. If he is game enough, he can attempt to attach his nano sim to his micro SD card. Just to search on Youtube. There are tutorial demo's showing you step by step. Idemnimity clause, please don't hold me responsible if something goes wrong.

Cool. Good to know this problem can be solved by changing the phones IMEI which incurs cost but still worth it.

yes..you are right.
the MOBO definately has design flaws and sub standard OTA software updates.

The finger print lock/unlock button to wake-up the phone from standby always causes the phone to freeze and lagging, while it takes time to activate most the time failed and the phone goes into restart mode, thus need to key in password/ pin / pattern etc to unlock the phone.

since i cancelled the FE, I told myself i wont be touching ( for a while) another product from this korean even though how flag ship the phone promised.

Although i have another 2017- A7 which my wife is using. ( though its also have the bugging restart occurs sometimes). She told me that and i saw too the self restarting of the phone (A7)

i m so so... disappointed with this korean phone. I do love my note edge. even MOBO king kong....many ppl said why so foolish to get a new MOBO. I told them.....for another RM 1,100 MOBO change its worth because at RM1,000 now, where can you buy a phone with S-Pen & IR Blaster & Heart Rate Monitor & 16MegaPix camera nowadays

As of now. I m using Honor 8 pro.

too many cases like this edi.. that's why if want to buy second hand, make sure get the full payment receipt as well.. if buy from telco, forget it... not worth the potential headache after... just my 2 cents...

Sorry to hear that Samsung brand has let you down. I am no Samsung fan either and we have considered a lot of things when I purchased these phones. let me share you how I got to decide;

First samsung phone we had at home is the galaxy S plus i bought this for my wife and she loved it. The amoled display is just gorgeous. she used it for about a couple of years and during that time she also bought me the Galaxy S3. I too loved it, because of the display and of course, being something recently released at that time, it was 'the' best android phone. So I used my S3 and my wife used her S plus and I could hear here complaning about the phone being slow and unresponsive - due to it aging and her having a lot of things inside it too. then came in the company Oneplus - the flagship killer. I reviewed the specs of the oneplus one and I thought that it is somehow future proof(for a couple of years at least) and considering the price, it was a bargain. During these times when I was considering oneplus one, I have been playing around with our samsung phones. I have tried different attempts to enhance it's performance by installing different ROMs slim ROMs, etc. well it worked however there is always a downside such as the battery does not last that much. or some features will not work. then I just gave up.

So that lead us to buy oneplus one. I thought of getting 2 so if anything goes wrong with my wife's phone or if there is anything she is unsure about her phone then I could quickly respond instead of googling solutions. I have to say, Oneplus One has been a great phone. we had them for 3 years and until now they are still responsive. I liked it a lot. never really thought of switching phones however I thought that I could upgrade now and give the oneplus ones away to our relatives and make someone happy.

Now you may be asking, why I didn't go for Oneplus if the phone is great, right? My guts were telling me to go for it. I could have just bought my wife a note 8 and I go for Oneplus however I thought this would be a good opportunity to try something else. I have always been amazed with the curved screens on samsungs and at the same time, when I was using oneplus one, I have the pen which I use from time to time. Besides the software now has lesser bloatware and closed to the stock android experience. So when I saw the opportunity at Qoo10 and help from fellow forumers, I went for it.

Note 8 Oreo update will be available early 2018...currently on beta S8 and S8 plus. anyone got beta program for S8/S8+?? I didnt received...

after changed a brand new MOBO on 24 october, after few days using felt no more problems cropping up,

sad to say it doesnt help at all and the restarting occured few times.

worse thing the phone signal lost (few times) and phone heats up because of searching to register to telco network.
I saw it with my own eyes . from the signal bar suddenly no more bar.

wasted my rm 1,100 on the new MOBO.

Thanks for sharing your experience! Yeah, there are plenty of awesome mid-range devices out there these days like the Honor 8 Pro and it’s really unnecessary to buy a flagship phone unless you really want it. I will likely buy and try Samsung again but definitely not at the Recommended Retail Prices, they tend to drop too much too soon. Cheers!

this korean can build impressive device as their flagship but the (bottom line) software architecture department is really bad.
they build and make the hardware so fast till the softwares not able cope with the device demands.

over the years ,many many OTA updates received but never rectify any disorders, flaws in the system or OS or touchwiz or software for the Note Edge.

Note Edge, i heard ( from the authorised dealer shop) was not in production just after 3 months of launching then. I was at the authorised shop while checking and pre-oreder the FE.
Wanted to trade in my Edge for rm700 (present value).

After the first year warranty over, problems started to crop up slowly.

Trust me I have seen many updates delivered OTA over the years..

I suspect the software was badly written to overcome bugs and other software impurities. I'm really frustrated with it. It's a new Mobo. I don't think it's a faulty Mobo. Most likely the culprit is the software.

The updates did not make rescue the phone or rectify faults at all. I wonder the updates do what actually.

I'm very disappointed actually. Bought the phone at RM 3000 , 3 years ago. Spent RM 1100 on the new Mobo. But the problem persists.

I pre-booked the note FE but on the 25 the last month I turned down to buy. Thus losing my deposit.

I love using s pen. And in my note edge even have an IR blaster . the IR blaster is very useful. Sad that all current Samsung models are without it. One other reason I turned down the FE . And the note 8 is because of this. I hope to see one day Samsung brings back the IR

Yes, the Note Edge will freeze/reboot/whatever often when using the finger scanner. I suspect it have something to do with the finger scanner.

I have reset my phones may be a dozen times and depending on luck, sometimes the problem is less and sometime more. If u really like to keep your Edge, may be that would be worth a try.

so far, have not experience that with the FE. Touch wood.
