Can't understand Ferrari strategy.(Lap 50) At this rate Kimi will catch Seb, Ric might catch him too.

I think this race clearly the Ferrari is the fastest car(in the hands of Kimi at least). Ham was kinda given the win by Ferrari. Consolation is the winner of this race may not win the championship.

In McLaren case, I think it's also largely due to arrogance of McLaren team, typical of a team which was so successful in the past. They just didn't want to accept that they are not as good anymore in developing the chassis so try to put Honda as the scape goat which partly true also (nobody denies that Honda that time was also very underpowered). It's simply Honda did not design well to begin with and develop fast enough while McLaren (and also Alonso) do not have enough patient to wait for more than 3 years for Honda to come good. McLaren is partially to blame also for not having a better chassis. I think Alonso's capability to outdrive a racing car to some extent masked McLaren chassis weaknesses. It's just not meant to be I guess, and it can be RB's luck if they win races next year as they bear the fruit of Honda's and McLaren's pain & sacrifices.

To me it's just a pity that a team as glorious as McLaren and a racer as outstanding as Alonso are languishing at the back, therefore risking to loose Alonso to other racing series.
*
Agreed. The way I see it McLaren would not compromise their design to accommodate the Honda engine. Honda tested their engine on the workbench extensively and went on great but when installed in the car, things didn't go so well. Honda had to design everything around the McLaren chasis but still it didn't work. Maybe it was Eric Boullier, maybe board of directors but definitely not the drivers since they didn't design the chasis. Toro Rosso has done a lot better as a comparison, the rate of engine failures are significantly less, only problem I see is inexperienced drivers but still the managed to get into the points in the first year of partnership with Honda.

Driver do provide input for car development. That's why senna is still regarded as best driver since he can help engineers designed better car. Also, driver needs to boost team morale, which alonso cannot do.
*
Somewhat true but modern F1 cars drivers don't have much say in chassis development as it involves a lot of computation and simulations. Drivers in the past literally work on their own cars whenever they are in the pits. Drivers nowadays when get to the pits they change to their fancy corporate uniform and look at the data and provide input(some of them).

Driver input is important. They do tweak the car while driving...much more than the olden days.

Even when you compared vettel and kimi steering wheel, vettel got extra lever to change more settings.

Also, when you as a driver keep emphasising on how 'good' the chassis is... That is a bad input
*
Those are different kind of tweaks, brake balance, fuel map, engine map etc. That they do during the race/quali/practice. What I meant is chassis wise, the chassis is a fixed monocoque design which can't be adjusted, if they want changes made, they have to build a new one.

Ricardo is too old to wait for RB+Honda to develop a winning car. Renault is just the only option he has.

I vote for Gasly.

I have the same opinion, plus Renault has been steadily improving.

I think Sainz will return. We'll see Sainz/Max explosion again but at Redbull this time. More drama next year.

Sainz was just on loan from Redbull to Renault. He is still contracted to Redbull. If no seat for him at Redbull, they'll put him back in Torro Roso but if he opts out then he has to shop around.

Ham signed a contract extension until 2020. Also he (theoretically) can race until late 30s (depends on his physical fitness).

I'm more worried with Ocon status at force india.... stay or booted to accomodate new owner's son? hmm.gif
*
I'd prefer Ocon over Perez.

Hmm quite surprised that Kimi still wants to go back to Sauber.  hmm.gif  So apparently his desire to still race in F1 is still quite strong after all even just to drive for Sauber, or is there anything not yet disclosed behind this swap?? Maybe there's a clause in the contracts that if Leclerc failed to perform as expected, they would put back Kimi?  hmm.gif

Or maybe the 2019 Alfa Romeo will be a Ferrari in disguise.

So now, all the current champs on the grid had one way or another been gifted at least 1 win in their career. Kimi in Brazil (which he repaid the next year), Alonso in Germany, Seb in Monaco (cannot recall if he got more during his RB time), and now Ham also got 1 blemish already.
*
I think 2016 Rosberg moved aside at Monaco for Ham, and Germany 2014, Also Sepang 2013 if I'm not mistaken(more like stand down from attacking, which is probably the same as gifting)

Well well, that's a nice race wasn't it? Aydee must be jumping up and down already! laugh.gif Anyway I'm sure everyone are happy to finally see the Iceman collected his long overdue win with a closely fought battle, a perfect drive, and finally a well executed strategy from Ferrari!

As for Seb, well again another lost opportunity to win due to his mistake. Because he impeded another driver and get grid penalty plus spun again during duel he only finished 4th and loosing another 13 potential points plus a 3 point swing off Lewis. So if he had not being doing all those mistakes, he would have been leading by 11 points now from Lewis. Anyway glad that he screwed up so Kimi finally can win. laugh.gif

I was on the flight so missed the race. Just downloaded and watched. Manly tears almost shed when he crossed the line(Kimi was indifferent about it lol). Good win(you know I never doubted him), it was all on his own, no Vettel to help him. Good for Ferarri. The look on Toto Wolff face hahaha. If Kimi wins the rest of the races and Vettel DNF Kimi could end up second.

I lol when Max asking Lewis "Did you win the championship?" . Lewis :"No..." laugh.gif I don't know if he was being sarcastic or what.
