Bottas just said they are not expecting the new phase 2 engine able to match Ferrari's straight-line speed, haha.

Well they are always sandbagging. The fact is from all the tracks so far, that Ferrari straight line speed actually doesn't differ much from the rest, maybe just a few kph advantage over Mercs. So far all these talk about that straight line speed is just exaggerated. Anyway speed without good down force is still not good enough. Binotto said in another article that Ferrari might have gone a bit much on aero efficiency instead of focusing more on down force.

LH tops fp1 for Mercs 1-2 about 1sec in front of the rest.

Ferrari strike back 1-2 on FP2.
I still believe this is Ferrari track. Doesn't matter Mercedes could be on pole, come race day Leclerc's consistent race pace could put him on win. Top Speed will works here.

I do hope so! I want Ferrari to finish 1-2 in the next 6 races then this season comes alive. 😀

Data analysis from Formula 1 website says Merc has the advantage on race pace though.

Got source? I want to see the Top Speed listing, can't find it. Unlike Motogp official site provide everything transparent

They have better mechanical grip and down force. Ferrari only has aero efficiency. I think power is similar.

Why care about top speed so much? The overall lap time is more important

Don't care, I loves top speed.
Kinda remember early 2000 Williams BMW has highest rpm and top speed achieved by Montoya. But he lost to Schumacher although some tracks he overtakes Schumi

Ferrari still tops FP3. Their top speeds are around 330kph while Mercs and the rest are around 320-325kph.

KMag smacked the wall of champions causing Max to miss Q3! Ferraris and Mercs are very close and trading fastest laps.

For Voscar who loves top speeds, the Ferraris reach 335kph while Mercs around 325kph and surprisingly slower than RB that managed around 328-330kph.

Finally SV is back on pole and yes Ferrari gains enough on the straights in the last sector. CL didn't do a good lap but VB really messed it up.

Good job by Ric in 4th to beat a Merc and a RB.

Well, Top Speed helps at certain circuit, simple as that :-)
That's the reason nobody wins ALL circuits in single season due to many different characteristic challenges. Haha :-)

McLaren almost did it in 1988.

Anyway if Seb can stay 1st after start then it would be difficult for Mercs to pass due to that top speed. Probably their best chance to pass Seb would be at the hairpin after sector 2.

I would expect Leclerc to pass Hamilton on the straights after DRS enabled.

Saw somewhere Ferrari + Red Bull leading group of teams asking Pirelli to switch back to last seasons thicker gauge blistering-prone tyre to stop Mercedes domination.

Don't underestimate Mercs race pace though. Even if on paper they might not be able to pass on track but if they have strong race pace they can pass in the pits.
