Hi fellow seniors, I realized that calculation for interest is slightly different for both AMEX & MC. For AMEX, is 8.88% p.a divided by 12 is 0.74% per month. for MC, its slightly higher, could it be 15% p.a? where its 1.25% per month?
*
No more 8.88% since March 2017; Amex also same 15%, u may check ur statement.

Suppose easier to change bill cut off date to 2nd of every month so it auto calculates what we owe after reduction from any CB.
*
Well, yes, but your due date would be 22nd of the month. Most people don't get paid that early. I followed the advice of cybpsych years ago, when I first used these 2 cards... to switch the Due Date to 2nd instead. Which means stmt date of 12th/13th.

Hi all,

I want to buy a camera and this shop mentioned that they can do maybank 0% interest but they have their own 5% charge.

Can they actually do that?

Can I just swipe full amount and then call maybank myself request to do the 0% 12 month interest?

Many thanks!

Hi guys. Just a noob question here. I want to ask that i have Maybank 2 Gold Card Visa and Amex. My Visa owe about 1700 and Amex about 650. It is combine limit. But for Visa in the 1700, 500 is some installment purchase. So my question is in total i owe 2350 but i plan to pay 1350 and 1000 on next month statement. So the charges is it next month i need to pay the oustanding 1000 plus 1.5% interest with whatever i swipe in next statement as i checked on the web? Am i correct?

Yes they can. It's their "handling fee". They should insert it to the bill for example: RM1000 for the item and RMxx for handling fee. Must be stated in the invoice.

I hate it when shops do that. It is actually illegal to do that although most business treat this as normal. Can file complaint to BNM and Visa/MasterCard and the company will be blacklisted by Visa/MasterCard

Do not set minimums and maximums, and do not surcharge
You should not set value limits or impose a surcharge as a condition for accepting payment by Visa cards.

it's a 2 separate matters.

5% surcharge by merchant was because the merchant itself refused to aborb the cc fee themselves, and passed to customers. 5% is on the high side, usually 1-3%.

they can do that, in fact it's a BAD PRACTICE to do it because they are not supposed to pass down the fee to customers, per their cc agreement.

we cant do much except complaint it to respective cc rep (visa/mastercard/amex) for merchant's violation. however, they cannot get rid of it entirely.

as a smart consumer, you can try go search other places without surcharge imposed. do not support the malpractices.

converting to 0% 12mth is called easypay plus (conversion after purchase). there is a small fee for the conversion.

The moment you did not pay the full statement balance interest is calculated at 1.5% x full statement balance add additional usage = interest charges

Doesn't matter how much you paid as long as it is not full statement balance the above interest calculation will be applied.

Rule of thumb, whatever the statement balance is pay the exact amount and not a cent less else those bladdy banks will start charging interest like along

Thank you. Quite a lot of camera shop that I survey practising like this. Found a few that do not charge but their price is high. If got charge, their price is cheaper. I guess they just playing around that...

Just received my M2C applied via RinggitPlus. I think they are quite fast and the approval took only a week. Now I am waiting for the card to arrived however I managed to see the cards listed in M2U already.

I'm reading the threads to understand and probably maximise my usage now. smile.gif

Thanks guys for all these info.

All's good just that for some reason i have not received the credit card statements yet. i have made about rm300 plus charges and even got some cashback on 1st of september 2017, but the CC statement section on MB2U is still blank. Can anyone advise how to retrieve the statement? I dont want to risk being charged late payment penalty. Thanks!

you could be getting 1st statement soon.

1) what does the cc summary page in M2U show? is it empty/all RM0.00? Refer Accounts & Banking | All Cards, and expand the card details.
2) while in M2U, subscribe to eStatement.

you wont get charged late payment penalty so soon. payment due date = 20 days after bill date.
