yes, my exp... a box that can do astrog go will be able to do hbo go and playtv@unifi (on wifi).

astro go is a good app - stable, reliable, correct aspect ratio, and HD (for HD channels).

beats the shit out of all other free apps, imo!

rooted sure cannot.
some unrooted, can "install" but it will not play.
like we discussed before, it is not just a simple "root" or unroot issue.... likely multiple checks.

himedia q10pro is unrooted, but failed to work in the beginning.
it was only after a certain firmware change that it worked, install direct from playstore.
what i read, firmware was fixed not only for astro but for similar iptv apps in thailand, vietnam, europe.
so, i think there is something in the firmware that box makers need to fix... and few bother or can do.

note some new unrooted or closed root boxes like the tanix'es - need to use modified apk; official will "install" but will not play.

root is not the only barrier, i believe.

whatever it is, it is good now that a good no. of boxes are now able to do astrogo.

as discussed in tanix thread, one can get free id/pw, a few free channels... then buy 30 or 60 days pass for certain live events and certains channels.

this is good but i wish they go all the way and let users buy full package, e.g. movie or chinese or learning pack(s).

that way, if cheap enough, everyone can dump the decoder!


as for ATV, there is no sign they care... no version is TV friendly with just remote... need mouse to navigate.

this astrogo beta seems more friendly, no problem installing as it is in all my boxes.

there is now v2.192.5... online update was fine too.

but this version is still buggy - voice lag, wrong aspect ratio for some channels.... some way to go.

there is one major disadvantage with that.

the picture will not be full screen, get black borders on the tv.

My bad, misread... he meant hdmi to tv.

Was refering to typical phone cast or mirror to tv will hv black borders with that app...

the beta version is not in google playstore - still old 8.2.6.

the beta version has gone thru several updates.
if u hv an older beta version, it will prompt u to update online, takes 30 secs or so.
my 3 boxes, all updates been fine so far.
no problem, no need modified version.
but the audio lag problem persists.

and agree... i dun like this new interface - the channels displayed for selection too small, sucks.

I just noticed an update is showing at playstore since today.

Looks like the cut off is coming... all old versions will soon be forced to update to new.

From the version code, think this official update is the same as the latest beta one which can be expected to shut down soon.

So, its almost all systems go now.

the latest and current NEW astrogo apk is 2.192.5/AC19.2.5/041de2b.

it is found in google playstore if your device is fully compatible, u can install direct from there.

if it does not appear in your playstore, u can can use this apk:

no need anything extra but no guarantee it will work on all boxes since there have been grouses about it... can't log in, circle forever, etc.

i have played with it on a few devices... a quick summary:

.. this official version is the same as the latest beta version; does not share same file name; so, the 2 can exist side by side.

.. u must remove any modified version u have; if not, it will not install.

.. during installation, when asked to log in, look for a message at the bottom "forgotten yr id/password".
if that does not appear, u cannot log in. some boxes, it comes out quickly, some takes a while.
some, u need to press the arrow buttons on the remote a few times for it to come out.

.. TV's and boxes running on AndroidTV (ATV) OS... may be disadvanatged.
dunno about about others but my ATV tv... can install BUT the video is very jerky - not watchable.
bad news for ATV, may need next version to work smoothly..?

.. astro has done something with this app - common backup apps are not able to back up this app to be copied and used on another device.
will have to look for later versions in places like apkmirror when updates come.

ATV... use 8.2.6 for as long as u can...

Astro go now has IQIYI on channel 300, in HD, nice.
In new app, can find 300, 305, 321, etc.
A matter of whether yr id is eligible or not to play them.

Old apk v8.2.6... not sure, but seems many channels dun show up there.

Use a mouse to set up favorites.

After that, can manage with remote alone.

Favorites is best feature in this version!

Not sure if it was the same with old astrogo app but with new app, i am pleased to find lot of vod movies and tv shows even when i do not hv movies package.

HBO tv series all there, incl recent titles like Chernobyl, Warrior, True Detective, GOT.

With eng subs too.
