QUOTE(MilitaryMadness @ Oct 27 2017, 07:25 PM) from the Star highlightsQUOTE -Almost RM9bil allocated for Royal Malaysian Police, including RM720mil to build 11 headquarters and six police stations, purchase of new firearms and operational vehicles, RM170mil to upgrade ICT equipment, including 1PDRMnet system. – Over RM14bil allocated for the Armed Forces, including RM3bil for purchase and maintenance of defence assets and RM250mil for Esscom to enhance coastal security controls in Sabah and Sarawak. previous 2017 Budget was Rm15.5 bil for defence total, Rm3.3 bil for development expenditure so it is about 10% reduction across the board. I do not like the wording "purchase and maintenance of defence assets" IINM the announced 15-5 RMN plan was banking on Rm4 bil development expenditure |

QUOTE(MilitaryMadness @ Nov 13 2017, 11:20 AM) MoD chiefs plan to disband an armored infantry brigade to cut costs although £380m has been paid to upgrade its Warrior IFVs Disbanding armoured infantry brigade =/= scrapping Warrior There will be redistribution of men and vehicles across units because the Army is trying to change from a balanced brigade system to heavy-medium brigade system but its unlikely the Warriors will be scrapped as it is a core unit of the army |

QUOTE(MilitaryMadness @ Nov 14 2017, 09:22 AM) That would be true if that is the case, but according to the news report, this is not a simple reorganization/conversion of the brigades, but a major cost-cutting measure. Not that much can be saved by simply disssolving the brigade and folding existing units into the remaining brigades, thus rendering the cost-cutting measure moot. While you remove (a bit) the administration costs, the bulk of the costs, vehicle maintenance and personnel costs still remain. hence we need to wait for the actual news, because this could be misunderstanding of the reorganisation. Warrior IFV is so few as it is that I find it quite unlikely they will really scrap it. |

Missing Argentine submarine: 'Explosion' detected
QUOTE An "abnormal, singular, short, violent, non-nuclear event" had been detected in the south Atlantic, a spokesman said. The information was relayed via Argentina's ambassador in Austria, Captain Enrique Balbi said. It follows a report of a loud noise in the same area. The ARA San Juan disappeared last Wednesday. More than a dozen countries including Russia and the US have sent assistance. The new information was provided to the Argentine navy on Wednesday, shortly after it received a report from the US of a "hydro-acoustic anomaly" detected hours after the submarine went missing. Captain Balbi said the suspected explosion took place near the submarine's last known location. The navy only knew the location of the suspected explosion, not its cause, he said. Search efforts would be concentrated in the area, he said. http://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-42100620 RIP. |

QUOTE(sniper on the roof @ Nov 24 2017, 09:47 AM) They said the explosion was detected on Nov 15. Why did it took so long for the news to be released? Argies said they were aware of it since earlier. My guess is that it was partly requested by USN to keep it quiet, as it is an indicator of their capabilities. Only once a civilian source independently confirmed the sound did they admit that they know. Its going to be shocking and upsetting for the families, but that's military for you. Even the published data for MH370's track is (so I heard) a little fudged so as not to give away the FPDA radar range. |

QUOTE(razhar @ Nov 25 2017, 12:44 AM) better ask LTZ broQUOTE(DDG_Ross @ Nov 25 2017, 01:29 AM) they shud have remain surfaced after they reported the initial battery problem, not sure why they gone underwater after that? the sea state there has been absolutely bloody hell the previous week, and subs are far less stable than ships in surface travel. IMHO it would have been far more likely for them to be swamped if they had travelled on the surface.if they lose power while underwater then its pretty much game over.. also contributing significantly to the problems impeding the search This post has been edited by KLboy92: Nov 25 2017, 03:26 AM |
