but nvm , i wont really care much on any -tive comment on dell ... tongue.gif ...another dell hardcore fans
*
haha..yeah man. 3 yrs warranty. my lappy oso 1yr CC only. world's best warranty..unbeatable tongue.gif btw its a very good time to get a Dell LCD now. a normal Dell 19" (w/o widescreen) cost me around RM749 6months back. bought it for my relative. if not mistaken Dell normally outsource their LCD from Samsung one. so should be no problem. the one I bought so far so good. rclxms.gif biggrin.gif

off topic : thought of working for Dell after I graduate. in finance dept. wanna join me, steven?? laugh.gif

Hey people... i am ex Dell 6400 user.. would love to share my experience regarding Dell 6400..hehe..

I bought my Dell 6400 last year May, was a good laptop.. the usual spec.. then my motherboard spoiled for unknown reason after 6 month of usage.. so it's still under warranty and so it's free..

But one bad day, which is one week ago.. my warranty for one year is gone.. and my dell 6400 can't start.. When to the workshop and dell boy told me it's the motherboard and processor spoiled!!!

He said i would either buy extended warranty which gonna cost me about RM$2300 or i pay the part which gonna cost me RM$2600... my eyes grow big big hearing that news...

Eventually i throw the whole machine into the dustbin! Going for Dell 9400 with 3 Complete Warranty!!!!!

Just my experience la.. For general purposes! smile.gif

QUOTE(Eiraku @ Jun 26 2007, 01:25 AM)
I guess that's because of Dell's recertification fee... When a Dell finishes its warranty period, if I'm not mistaken, you have a limited period of time to upgrade to another year (or two)... Beyond that, you'll have to pay a recertification fee (I forgot how much) so that Dell can check your laptop, and estimate what they have to cover... icon_rolleyes.gif

Even more so for CC... I'm not sure, so freely correct me if I'm wrong... thumbup.gif
*
RM2.3k??? ohmy.gif u sure it's so expensive to extend the warranty?? coz last time my sis's 6400 HDD spoiled also she pay around RM584 only to extend another 1 year limited warranty even though her warranty has ended around 1 month before this happen.

i've asked Dell about the recertification fees before and it usually cost around RM100plus only. but i tink there's a limited time period for u to extend ur warranty after ur warranty has ended. mine has ended since late April. blush.gif smile.gif

so has anyone ordered the Dell 1520? customised it with C2D 2.0, 120GB HDD, GeForce 8600M GT, 9-cell batt, 3 yrs CC, Bluetooth etc and it cost around RM4.8K!! ohmy.gif even base RAM is 2GB edy..Blu ray dic drive cost another RM2K. phew~ laugh.gif

liked the white colour kit. now its even free. last time when order 6400 need to add another RM108 for the kit. tongue.gif

anyway..thumbs up for Dell for 1520. we will get to see these roaming the streets & our campus very soon. biggrin.gif

bro.. maybe it's because your sister problem was only the HDD.. that's why it cost only RM584 to extend another one year limited warranty... If you are free.. can help to check out what's the price for the extended one year warranty if the motherboard and processor spoiled? Let see if it's still RM584... very curious.. if it's still the same price.. i gonna flame that dell guy who quoted me that price!  mad.gif

I am still waiting for my 9400.. hopefully within this one or two days.. leaving to Kuching  next week... any nice place to go and see? On a working trip though.. will be staying hopefully at somerset hotel.. anyone live in kuching? Any good place to go??  biggrin.gif
*
he quoted my sis RM580 for the HDD and loose hinge & RM584 for extending the 1 year limited warranty. extra 4 bucks for 1 year limited warranty plus replace the parts is worth it rite? but need to include a RM120+ of recertification fees. that's what i know. coz i'm the one who made the call and received an email with the quotation soon after that. u can try to ask Dell again. but since you're getting 9400 edy..no point. just be happy with ur new lappy. smile.gif

anyone selling off their 6400 to get the 1520?? tongue.gif

I think it is quite worth. Replace harddisk and extend warranty just 4 bucks different although it is limited warranty. But if your sister handle the laptop very carefully one, just buy a new harddisk and replace herself will cheaper a lot. 160GB drool.gif

I'm thinking to sell off my 6400 and get 1520 but just extend my warranty to 3 years complete cover, so I think I gonna bear with it sweat.gif

so many ppl tempted by the new gpu eh?  my next move would be back to desktop again for gaming purpose
*
QUOTE(Agent001 @ Jun 27 2007, 07:58 PM)
Agreed.  Laptop, no matter what, is juz for its portability.  If it can play games, already a bonus! (IMO)

Although I am tempted at the 1520 with its nice GPU, I've learnt to close one eye, and just bear with it.  It's a fact of life.

Although, I don't really like the new design, except the colour lid though.  It looks cheap, especially around the sides of the keyboard, like how ours have the white strip.  Just my opinion.
*
yup. extra 4 bucks is really worth it. u know sometimes girls dun really know how to take care of these electronic stuffs. so should get 3 yrs CC at first actually. tongue.gif

yea. really tempted by the GC. really gonna make hell lots of difference compared to my GMA950. u guys with X1400 should be ok with it right? at least still can play Battlefield 2142. biggrin.gif

the design of 1520 is more sleek & has vibrant colors compared to the now dull-looking 6400. the colour lid is the major nice part. drool.gif rclxms.gif

last time when bought 6400 got Core Duo felt so proud edy..some friends still using normal Centrino & AMD. now... cry.gif cry.gif but just have to close one eye. this is what we called technology. new ones will be coming out to replace the old ones. smile.gif

anywhere here i got 1 question...now i am using 2x1GB 667Mhz kingston ram...but i lost my dell original ram, if my 6400 now got problem, when i send it back, will void the warranty ma?? blink.gif
*
let's say ur lappy got prob and Dell technician come to check..will void the warranty of some parts if Dell checked and suspect the new RAM is the culprit for the problem.

peeps

my 6400 runs on XP. problem is the wifi wants me to put in password when i'm in any free wifi hotspots.

a fren wih another brand laptop with XP can just connect straight away to the network automatically there...strange huh?

any thoughts?

for info...i never touched anything on the wifi and network config...it's just as per what is given the first i got it.

another thing - if i use only battery, on full charge it can only last for 1.5 hours..is this ok or bad?
*
mine has same prob with yours last time. if you're using Intel PROset to run ur wireless instead of the XP built-in software..try reinstall the Intel PROset Wireless software and driver. get the latest one from Intel's website.

1.5 hours for what kinda activities? web surfing, movie, burn CDs etc? if just normal typing or web surfing is kinda bad. mine 1 year old edy still can run around 2 hours plus for web surfing. smile.gif

I think they try to avoid me. I emailed the fifth time and nobody replies yet. I asked about the warranty extend. Furthermore, I have placed order for warranty extend (I just can't wait for them to reply me just in case anything bad happens). What the FXXK... They promised to send confirmation receipt within 2 working days but I haven't received it after 4 days.
*
bro..try calling them. sometimes emails are not so effective as it's not so 'direct'. try call Daniel @ extension 2906. he's a very nice SA. dealt with him few times for my lappy stuffs & even bought few Dell desktop thru him. good luck. smile.gif

ps : u sure u provided them with the correct email add & the Dell email didn't go into the junk mail folder? coz i ordered a Dell desktop then few days passed still havent receive any confirmation email from them. called them to ask & realise the SA mistype my email add. tongue.gif
