is it possible for me to extend my warranty even after my warranty has ended?

coz there's one of my frens her I6000 mobo burnt after the warranty period ended then Dell said the charges to replace the mobo would be 1k+. but instead asking her to replace the mobo..they've gave her a choice for getting extra 3 yrs CC for RM1k. she paid 1k for the 3 yrs CC extension. that's what i heard from her.

just call Dell & inform them about the problem. if they need you to take the pic & send to them then just do it. normally they will ask a technician to check ur lappy.

mine had around 1cm deep scratch too. on top corner of the LCD screen. wonder how it get there..must be during assembly. but don't care la. just small scratch. other than that whole notebook perfom perfectly. btw just an advise to u guys..changed my lappy's LCD hinge coz it's loose when u move it. the technician said Dell lappy always got this prob. he advised not to always flip the LCD up & down frequently. but if yours till in CC then no worries. fixed mine during CC too.

haha..better claim b4 it ends, bro. btw realise acer's hinge is more longer lasting. frens ones always flip up & down also still tight. mine changed few months bac now start loose again.

try to remove the battery if you're planning to use ur AC power for a long period. overheating the battery will shorten the battery lifespan. but remember to charge your battery once a while so that it wont be completely drained. this will affect the battery's lifespan too. correct me if i'm wrong.

are you referring to the hinge/LCD cover? it's a common problem for 6400 after frequent flipping up & down. repaired mine under CC few months ago. now abit loose also dy.

to turn off the LCD monitor when lappy is idle :

Control Panel->Performance & Maintenance->Power Options->Power Schemes->Turn off monitor->Choose the time u want the monitor to turn off itself when lappy is idle

to turn off the LCD monitor when flipping down :

Control Panel->Performance & Maintenance->Power Options->Advanced->When I close the lid of my portable computer->Do nothing

yup. agree with u. other brands seems to have better built quality. especially HP. Dell one seems plasticky. but still a quality notebook + great warranty service.

FYI, 6400 is the cheapest performance notebook u can get it the market for now. with RM3K+ can get C2D, X1400 & 120GB HDD. don't think other brands offer this kinda specs for that price. for that kinda specs, 6400 cost more than RM4K-5K last year, when i bought mine.

used XPS for few days before. the LCD cover just seems more nicer with the black & silver accent. inside (keyboard & palm area) is just like 6400. plasticky too just that the keyboard keys is in silver, not in black like 6400. besides that, it's LCD cover has a nice locking mechanism. when we flip down 6400's LCD cover & 'lock' it, we need to push some sort of key to 'unlock' it right? XPS's one is without the key. when u flip it down, it will just lock by itself. hard to describe. u gotta check it out. btw XPS is so so light.

Cooling pad u can try CM notepal.

those files with blue fonts are compressed files by Windows. can't change it back. Windows compressed old files that are haven't been used for a long time to save HDD space.

what type of creative u mean? the PCMIA sound card or Creative Labs Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy ADVANCED HD Audio software?

it's better to extend the warranty as laptop parts is not cheap. my friend's 6400 wanna change the hinge & HDD cost around RM590. the Dell warranty service SA recommended him to extend a year CC as it only cost RM584. no fuss no worries. all parts included in warranty. repair/replacement FOC.

using 56k line. back in hometown no streamyx.

i don't tink it's the HDD problem. might be the windows/softwares prob. the problem still persist onot? call dell to ask. if u suspect it's HDD prob..they will run u thru few diagnostic tests 1. that's what i've been told to do last time.
