Monta Ellis of the Golden State Warriors was named the winner of the 2006-07 NBA Most Improved Player Award, the NBA announced today. The annual award is presented to a player who has made a dramatic improvement from the previous season or seasons.

Ellis received a total of 352 points, including 47 first-place votes, from a panel of 129 sportswriters and broadcasters throughout the United States and Canada. The Sacramento Kings ' Kevin Martin finished second with 349 points (44 first-place votes) followed by the Utah Jazz 's Deron Williams with 101 points (13 first-place votes). Players were awarded five points for each first-place vote, three points for each second-place vote and one point for each third place vote received. This is the closest finish in the history of the award since 1990-91 when Scott Skiles of Orlando edged out Kevin Gamble of Boston by four vote

The Lakers are a long ways away from being a championship team with the way their roster currently is constructed and Kobe Bryant knows that.

"He's antsy," Mitch Kupchak, the Lakers' general manager, said. "And we recognize that we've got a talented and gifted guy that could get us to that level. We don't want to waste that."

Lamar Odom and Andrew Bynum are two players with value, but officials have called them untouchable.

Attempts to acquire the Nets All-Star Jason Kidd in February reportedly failed because the Lakers refused to include Bynum.

"He's not in our plans to trade," Kupchak said. "It's one of those deals where you kind of don't know what you have. You hate to do something too soon."

"They've got some decisions to make, if they want to build a contender now, or if you want to hold onto these pieces for five years from now," Bryant said. "They got some tough choices."

Tiuzzz dono dont simply give false infomation la. First Virgil now wayne_chen. Many ppl is gonna wake up early and expect a Suns vs Lakers match because of you. And they will be disappointed with a boring Magic Piston match. Next time just dont argue with me and admit that I'm correct.

Please do not look at things so simple-mindedly. There has been many thoughts on the Mavs vs GSW match where the favorites are rather on the dissappointing side. I am just trying to rev up the support for the Mavs...
