Sometimes i am not really sure myself about Kobe... ppl say that he is good and he can get the shot to sink anywhere anytime but then ... what matters most is consistency.. to me, i think it is the team's fault for relyin too much on Kobe... 1 thing for sure, he is no Wilt Chamberlain and by the looks of this season, he is not capable to single-handedly bring the team forward to a higher ground...

I prefer the Lakers to play without Kobe, and playing as a team... i was so frustrated watching the game of Lakers vs Clippers that i am starting to gain some hatred against the team.. much of a Lakers fans myself but then the match opened my eyes, how much the team rely on Kobe, giving him the ball, making tough shots, basketball is about being a team of 5ive.

Probably the Lakers might play even better without Kobe in the team..

hmm.. u got a point there.. Kobe is like the go to guy in da lakers 2 take a shot.. if Lakers were 2 play without kobe, then the other Lakers players can improve on their offensive role..

2 days match between Rockets & Suns really exciting.. both Yao ming & T-Mac scoring 30+ points.. thumbup.gif

Kobe is no Wilt Chamberlain, in what sense? different players in different positions and because of scoring? they were playing in different eras in different times.

kobe is special. so is chamberlain biggrin.gif

and dont u think it's unfair to ask one player to lift the team all the way to the playoffs having to play 48 minutes in one game scoring 50 hard points being triple teamed and asked to perform the next game. kobe needs help and he isnt getting any. instead of asking the lakers to play without kobe, why not ask the lakers to buck up. its not that kobe isnt dishing the ball to others but others cant seem to shoot for their lives. odom and smush arent good shooters. walton dishes but cant shoot if his life depended on it as well. as for bynum? much to learn. i still feel kobe is the heartbeat of the team but the team is on life support. they overworked the heart! give the heart a break by putting someone there.

KG! KG! KG!! laugh.gif

Here are my top five candidates for the Most Improved Player:
1. Kevin Martin, Sacramento
2005-06 statistics: 10.8 PTS, 3.6 REB, 1.3 AST, 0.8 STL
2006-07 statistics: 20.4 PTS, 4.3 REB, 2.2 AST, 1.2 STL
I had Martin on my radar early in the season when he started off the season with 12 straight games of 15-plus points. Martin continued his production all year, netting 10 30-plus point games including a career-high 40 against the Wizards on Dec. 21. The third-year rail-thin guard out of Western Carolina with the '90s haircut and the funky jumper made a name for himself around the league as the other K-Mart and as the other Ohio native tearing up the league while wearing No. 23. He led the Kings in scoring on a team that features big names like Mike Bibby, Ron Artest, Brad Miller and Shareef Abdur-Rahim. The award belongs to Martin.

2. Monta Ellis, Golden State
2005-06 statistics: 6.8 PTS, 2.1 REB, 1.6 AST, 0.6 STL
2006-07 statistics: 16.7 PTS, 3.1 REB, 4.2 AST, 1.7 STL
Even if Ellis doesn't win the Most Improved Player, at the very least his stellar play this season has prompted everybody to properly pronounce his name MON-TAY instead of MON-TUH. The 6-3, 175-pound guard got the league's attention with his slam against the Suns in November, to his buzzer beater on the Nets in January all the way to his throw down in the T-Mobile Rookie Challenge in February. Ellis had just one year of post-high school experience coming into this season with Baron Davis, Jason Richardson, Dajuan Wagner and Anthony Roberson all on the roster. Despite the competition, Ellis shined whether it was in a starting role as he did for 51 games or coming off the bench which he did 24 times.

3. Andre Iguodala, Sixers
2005-06 statistics: 12.3 PTS, 5.9 REB, 3.1 AST, 1.6 STL
2006-07 statistics: 18.2 PTS, 5.7 REB, 5.7 AST, 2.0 STL
Iguodala's body size and athleticism often draws comparisons to Scottie Pippen and when Allen Iverson skipped town, Iggy made like Pip did in 1993-94 in his first season out of Michael Jordan's shadow. The third-year swingman had a coming-out party since the All-Star break, helping the 76ers to a 17-10 record and dominating games on both ends of the floor. About the only thing that didn't go his way since the New Year was his iron man streak coming to an end at 232 games when he sat out against Charlotte on March 23 with back pain.

4. Al Jefferson, Boston
2005-06 statistics: 7.9 PTS, 5.1 REB, 0.5 AST, 0.8 BLK
2006-07 statistics: 16.0 PTS, 10.9 REB, 1.3 AST, 1.5 BLK
Boston fans haven't had much to get excited for this season with perennial All-Star Paul Pierce missing a chunk of games and the team stumbling to a 23-57 mark, but Jefferson's play gives the Celtics faithful a beacon of hope. Big Al put it all together during the month of March when he played 15 games and scored 20-plus 11 times and grabbed double-digit boards 10 times. In just his third year out of high school, the 6-10, 256-pound Jefferson makes you believe that he has just scraped the surface of how good he can really be.

5. David Lee, Knicks
2005-06 statistics: 5.1PTS, 4.5 REB, 0.6 AST, 0.4 STL
2006-07 statistics: 10.7 PTS, 10.4 REB, 1.8 AST, 0.8 STL
Lee was the last pick in the first round of the 2005 draft but easily outperformed half the players selected before him this season. The second-year forward out of Florida had 29 double-doubles in 58 games played this season. Like Ellis, Lee just flat-out played no matter if it meant he was starting as he did 12 times, or coming off the bench which he did on 46 occasions. Unfortunately a right-leg injury pulled the plug on Lee's season as he only played in three games from Feb. 25 on. Lee's workman-like contributions on a team full of max-contract millionaires cannot be overlooked.

How about u guys???Let's discuss it.

Yup, be it Kobe, Jordan or Chamberlain, no one can win the championship for his team single-handedly.

Detroit shut down Jordan, Russell cut Chamberlain down, and that's what teams will do to Kobe in the playoffs.

It's not Kobe's fault, his teammates need to step up. They need to tighten up their defense and rebound more. With the best game-closer and most fundamentally sound offensive player in the league in the team, some solid points in the post from Lamar and some consistent shooting from the rest of the team plus the triangle offense, they should be one of the best teams in the league. All they really need is consistency and hustle.

Exactly! If only there is somebody else who can take charge and not just Kobe alone.. someone to share the amount of shooting he does.. if kobe couldnt get the feel to sink the ball, then other people will have to step up.. somehow this remind me of the Denver - Lakers game not too long ago... 9-30 FG by Kobe...

Dallas determine who they are goin to face next now. If they wanna go against the Clippers, they juz need to lose the game against GSW, but then the Clippers will still need to win against the Suns. So its all up to Avery Johnson to decide.. but if i were him, regardless of which team, the team's fitness is main priority biggrin.gif

Referee Crawford suspended in Duncan flap
April 17, 2007
NEW YORK (AP) -- Joey Crawford is done ejecting players and coaches this season. On Tuesday, he was the one getting tossed.

The veteran NBA referee was suspended indefinitely by commissioner David Stern for his conduct toward Tim Duncan, who contends the official challenged him to a fight during a game in Dallas.

Crawford has worked more postseason games than any active ref. His suspension will last at least through the NBA finals, and he apparently will have to meet with Stern after that to discuss reinstatement.

"Especially in light of similar prior acts by this official, a significant suspension is warranted," Stern said in a statement. "Although Joey is consistently rated as one of our top referees, he must be held accountable for his actions on the floor, and we will have further discussions with him following the season to be sure he understands his responsibilities."

Crawford ejected Duncan from San Antonio's loss after calling a second technical foul on the Spurs star while he was laughing on the bench.

"He looked at me and said, 'Do you want to fight? Do you want to fight?"' Duncan said. "If he wants to fight, we can fight. I don't have any problem with him, but we can do it if he wants to. I have no reason why in the middle of a game he would yell at me, 'Do you want to fight?"'

Crawford was cited for "improper conduct" and "inappropriate comments made to Duncan during the game." Stern said Crawford's actions "failed to meet the standards of professionalism and game management we expect of NBA referees."

The NBA also fined Duncan $25,000 for verbal abuse of an official. Crawford said Duncan referred to him with an expletive.

Crawford was the first referee suspended since Rodney Mott was banned three games on Jan. 12 for making an obscene gesture toward a fan and also using inappropriate language in Portland.

Crawford comes from an officiating family. His brother, Jerry, is a major league umpire, as was his father, Shag.

Joey Crawford is in his 31st season as an NBA referee. He has officiated more than 2,000 games during the regular season and 266 in the playoffs, including 38 in the NBA finals.

But his temper has gotten him noticed before, especially in Game 2 of the 2003 Western Conference finals, a matchup involving the same teams as in Sunday's game. Crawford called four technical fouls in the first 10-plus minutes, leading to ejections of then-Mavs coach Don Nelson and assistant Del Harris.

Nelson and Harris, now with Golden State, and Mavericks owner Mark Cuban all declined to say anything about Crawford's suspension before the Warriors played Dallas on Tuesday night.

"All I can do is get in more trouble," Nelson said.

Crawford also called a technical in a recent game against Duncan, who said Sunday that Crawford has a "personal vendetta against me."

Duncan was called for his first technical foul Sunday with 2:20 remaining in the third quarter for arguing about an offensive foul. Crawford hit him with the second technical 1:16 later after Duncan was on the bench laughing about a call that went against the Spurs.

With Duncan gone, the Mavericks rallied to beat the Spurs, ending San Antonio's chance of earning the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference.

As expected, Avery Johnson decided to let the team stay healthy for the playoffs, probably the last match too he might just ditch off a 10-man squad. I am not saying that this isnt good or theres no sportsmanship in the team doing so, its a smart move.

Somehow, if GSW were to go against the Mavericks, they will have to deal with the immense pressure of going against a full Mavericks team. By putting them into a stress, thats when GSW fails.

Sweet ~

My most wanted to watch match would probably be the GSW vs TrailBlazers! 1st, of coz i wanna c how much GSW can sweat it off after a 1 game win over Dallas, which i think considered effortless for them ... what matters most is the game against the Blazers. I so wanna c Brandon Roy in action!
