benjaminn,
Your room seems pretty bare, do you not have any acoustic problems?
htkaki is very good at trouble shooting this problem, I showed him some pictures of my setup and he guided me through the testing and treatments.
Now I'm loving it, calibrations, and comments from him are very useful, I never knew my system can sound like this before.

Thanks htkaki.

Why people want to run presence? Is it better than surround. I have enuf speakers to try but no cable doh.gif
So currently I just run 6.1 (single back channel). Nothing impressive la but the surround now sounded fuller compared to 5.1 setup but need to run movies with DDex or DTSes to make use the back channel. If movies with only 5.1 sound, no sound coming from back channel rolleyes.gif

Anyway, nice setup bro thumbup.gif

Most receiver will allow you to force 5.1 into 6.1 or 7.1 matrix mode. This is how I run my 7.1. All DD and DTS will be force to run Dolby EX and THX Extended surround. Check your manual. For 6.1, your rear center is best to use bipole or dipole speaker as it disperse the sound at your back wall so you feel more envelope by ambient sound. A single center speaker at the back is not very effective as it's too directional.

Yep I found it. Turn out I need to set my extended surround speaker setting to EX/ES and not leave it at auto. Thanks for the head up. Now got sound coming from the back center channel even only running 5.1 track.

Anyway, I'm just testing and playing around with my extra speakers before I sell them. Gonna get bipole later for left/right surround and then back to 5.1 mode. I'm not that impress with 6.1 setup now and I think I can live without it. At least not until I got BDP blush.gif

why not trying out presence? maybe you'll love it.
I know that it'll give you the ambient, long halls might not do much, but wide on the other hand might get a wider sound stage.

since you have the extra speakers , why not give em a try?

Can be said so. Same goes to rooms with double the size of width.
These are what I read in these few days.

A cubic or perfect square room means that 3 dimensions resonate at the same frequency.
Thus, some notes will be louder than the other.
In other words, if there are 6 band members playing, you can only feel that 3 are playing. The other 3 are like being eclipsed.

Too much hassle la bro for presence setup. I don't want to put a nail in my wall just for the sake of testing. My wife sure bising later sweat.gif

this is still not that bad if you're using an AVR, as you are still able to lower down the db for different hz, would be tough when using a tube, but still you're able to adjust using your cdp.
my previous encounter was it sounded bright, details we superb but with slight modifications on the EQs you're able to push the bands to one stage and still layered them out naturally.
adjustments can still be made.

mega,

11x11 it's ok la .. you just need some sound traps to balance back the harmony. I thought that my room was good enough but having people visiting once a while for audition, I find that it's better after comments and adjustments. my room is a bout 15' x 11' with one open alley, and I sit smack right to the wall. (this gave me a lot of disadvantages, but was able to counter with rear wall absorption panels. Can't rearrange on the other position as the sliding door is on the path.

I rolled a 2' x 4' foam and put at the corner as a bass trap. Now bass less boomy when I stand at that corner. Need to get more foam to make it a 4 feet foam pillar tongue.gif

Hmmm.. Try to explain a bit more to you.
The low frequencies tend to build up more at those corners and resonate to the whole room.

This will cause uncontrolled bass.

Let's say i'm too poor to pad those corners with proper HT padding material, can I use sanitary pad instead? and stick to the wall?
