Totally agree with Fatani.
Only a small addition, ride 1000km is the milage you will really start to know your cycling needs.
*
1000km is easily an achievable mileage in a year, even for someone new. Before we know it, time flies by so fast for us to even notice it. So one year is not that long of a period.

I made a rookie mistake when i started getting into cycling. Groupset and wheelset were upgraded within a month after buying the bike, after reading online. What i realised later, no matter what people recommend, may not suit my needs. It may suits them alright though. So there's no right or wrong here, just highly depends on what suits us better.

Luckily i managed to sell those stuff at minimal loss, and change to the one that im more comfortable using.

I did my 1st thousand within 3 months, didn't even tried hard. 3 rides a week, 30 + 30 + 50, and before I knew, 1200km already!
Don't rush into modding, I share the same mistake as Fatani too. Luckily not as severe… But I am a hoarder, I don't sell my "mistakes". So it's still money wasted.
Reading and researches are all good but what really matters is the actual riding… recommendation is only recommendation, you are the one with the final say.

Imho, there are no such thing as upgrades. Only modifications and customisation.

Generally, folding bikes are not designed for speed. But with some mods, and better fitness level, it can be made to move faster. Since you are just venturing into the cycling scene, best is to keep pedalling to improve your fitness. Mods when you think it's necessary. Try finding a cycling groups and start from there. Better get the santai2 one first. When you think your fitness is getting better, try cycling with a faster group. You'll improve your speed for sure. Im sure, by that time, you'll already know what necessary mod (or bikes) that may suit your need.

Here's my cap ayam bike.

any cheap tyre will do. weight should not matter, since you're training, right. if it botak, les damage to your wallet. i don't have a trainer/roller, but on the road, i personally would prefer a heavier bike for training..i only take the lighter bike when i join the cycling groups that are speeding with the average speed of 30kmh+-. puke.gif sweat.gif

Don't laugh, cheap tires do wear off after 2000km. But Light tires cost more than car tires with lifespan less than 1000km. Too expensive to change every 500km…

Hi all kaki basikal...

Just wondering any possible to fit 4 units of 16" wheel (or smaller) folding bicycles into a small suv or seden with 4 pessangers... smile.gif

I am having two old 16" China cap ayam folding bike (once the bikes is folded, it is not as compact as new folding bike), menaged to squeeze in the Subaru XV and have a weekend light biking trip, but a family of 4 may have to take turn to ride the bikes.

Any suggestion which type of bikes can fit my needs... btw, no budget to get bigger car smile.gif

Thanks in advance!

You do have a rough idea of the size of a folded bike… and the size of your family members. Convert that to liters and see if your car has that much holding capacity.
Get a mini bus la.

There is a stereotype misconception that Foldies are small. In fact the are not. Foldies can fold down only as small as 2 wheels put side by side… which isn't small, just easier to stow away.
