dont run away from a chasing dogs, they will chase you even more aggressively. i usually turn back look at them straight in their eyes.

i bought mine from taobao fully assembled. you have to get it checked by the bike shop. depending on the shop maybe below 50. for my case, i diy so it is free.
quality to price ratio is unmatchable.
even considering paying for rm150 shipping

I have got one Fnhon 305 16", one Tern P24H, one Brompton M6R, I kept all 3 because each of them has got very different characteristic.
Fnhon is very light and agile, tern p24h is damn good touring bike. Brompton is the best balance between portability and rideability.

yes the one with sturmey archer, i find it quite good actually.

QUOTE(desastar @ Mar 6 2018, 06:21 AM)
Tern P24H is the one that has the Sturmey Archer hub right? The later ones had the Sram dual drive unit, which is what I have in the Tikit. Mine runs 27 speed as I replaced the shifter and put on a 9 speed cassette. Yes they are good tourers.

i wholeheartly agree with a good frame, that's the most expensive parts in a folding bike. when i say frame, preferable with fork n headtube need to be of decent quality
The rest like ettige can be upgraded rather easily.

From 16 to 18 to 20..then u decide from there which one u like.

i pondered about this for a long time, if you are on tour, folding bike or road bike makes not much differences. if say 60km maybe 30 mins more?

QUOTE(fatani @ Mar 8 2018, 02:13 PM)
if the groupset is the same, obviously, the major diff is the wheel size laugh.gif

for 60km, if it was me, i'd pick a foldie. on rb, 60km i would consider it a short distance. but, u certainly reach that distance faster.

a cheap beginner bike is always good to get you started off. who knows u got bored after a few rides you won't lose a lot of money.
i started with a second hand tern worth 1800. being a newbie, i think it wasn't a really good purchase. however it was a good bike and i didn't lose a lot of monies on it.

progressively my thought towards 20" foldie has changed, I look into 16" but those are portable and suitable for short commute, less than 30km. finally i bite the bullet and got a brompton. it was good but kind of expensive.

for newbie if you can buy from taobao, i truly recommend fnhon or even china original dahon.

don't get me wrong, a folding bike can go the same distance at same speed like road bike just that you will have to pedal harder. same cadence same power output always a roadbike will be faster.
I go with roadbike due to the speed. i really do not have the time and power to go distance on a folding bike. with same effort i can go further or i can go same distance like folding bike with less effort.

Any reason to Road bike? I feel like to acquire Roadbike for slightly long distance speed cruise as well

still on last count i got 4 folding bikes, 2 roadbikes and 1mtb.
i still find folding bike unique. and with improving tech, i am really impressed with the direction where it is going. on RB especially governed by UCI rules, it could be a bit boring for me.

that part i will never dispute, some folding rider is faster than road rider.
but at equal wattage equal cadence, equal gears, road bike 700c will be faster.
so what i did was taking advantage of this as i am not a powerful rider, road give me easier ride easier effort.

QUOTE(calvin_ng @ Mar 11 2018, 11:06 AM)
You may be right for a stock foldie vs stock RB/MTB

but if you wan to go as fast as RB for a foldie there are some mod can be made... I have seen friends mod with higher gearing which made the folding as fast as a RB and according to him it is as good as a RB.... just need to mod the gear system to have it ride further and easier....
