is it a must to go to the open sea to get the padi cert? can it be done without going out of town?

QUOTE(ExCrIpT @ Jan 23 2018, 10:40 PM) Whether or not you need to travel out of town depends whether the town you live in supports scuba training. There's 3 parts of the training - theory, confined water, and open water.- Theory can be done online wherever you are, or in a classroom. - Confined water can be done in a swimming pool or sea shore. - Open water must be done in the open sea, lake, etc. And then there's the question of whether you have instructors/shops local to you. QUOTE(ExCrIpT @ Jan 23 2018, 08:40 PM) I'm quite curious on what exactly do you mean by asking about going to the open sea? Are you under the impression that going to the open seas means going out in the middle of the ocean? |

QUOTE(2387581 @ Jan 26 2018, 04:47 PM) what is the purpose of getting a recreational diving certification if you have no intention to go out to the sea and enjoy the marine ecosystem? Tot I could get the cert inland first for my trip to Krabi in April. Can't take time off right now for the course which requires travelling |

Can't take time off right now for the course which requires travelling ah I see...make good use of the CNY break? Anyway the east coast it not suitable for diving until end-February. If you wish you may well have to do it in west coast or Sabah/Sarawak, which beats your intention.Perhaps just give diving a miss in this trip, you can always do it later in your life. Or extend your Thailand break to get yourself certified there. Open water is called open water for a reason...you need the real deal to equip yourself with the necessary skills in a real environment. A pool on the other hand is a very controlled environment. And doing your training in a nice sea will make you more likely to keep the hobby on, because it is so nice. Maybe it is a good business opportunity, look at the new shops at 1 utama E...simulating sky diving and surfing, indoor. |

Can't take time off right now for the course which requires travelling What I did is to check surf forecast and look at the wave heights.Example: Surf Forecast I manage to spot a week of low waves (0.5m or less) with no rain in Tioman, check with the dive shop, and manage to book open water course during CNY week (Feb 2017). However, ferry timing is very bad for February, would suggest to stay longer than the course required and 90% of the restaurant remain closed thru out Feb. I had the course in Salang so perhaps other Kg in Tioman will be better. It was very fun to be the one and only diver thru out the course. No stress from other diver and 100% attention by the instructor (Abit of pressure there) |

hmm i have some questions can anyone shed some light for me? does imperial or metric measurements affect things like LP hose threading and sizes? what i see being thrown around is 3/8" is the standard size for the diameter of LP hoses in imperial, does that mean i cant use a metric 8mm because of a tiny difference? i know my first stage is metric since the SPG is metric
