It's not. If your area has no good CA speed, cannot say the same for others.
There are people who are enjoying 80Mbps and above, if I were one of them, this is a justified purchase.
That said I am using E5186 and though I didn't enjoy full CA speed but 50Mbps has made me happy.

It's weird. I use E5776 first when I got i150. Now using E5186. The max speed I got ~30Mbps. Mostly around 10-20 Mbps la. Normally 7 devices connected to this router all day.

Last nite I download firmware from sammobile. 2gb file finish in 30 minutes. Better than streamyx 8Mbps mcm langit dgn bumi.

hmm...i'm not alone i think. When i plug in my e398 to my laptop, i can easily get 20Mbps++, but when i put the modem in 3420, the dl speed drop and only left 10-12Mbps.

Its ok before this, coz i'll get around 30-50Mbps either on phone itself or tethering to pc from my S7E. But lately I noticed that the decreased to 10-20Mbps at peak hours (7pm-11pm) maybe due to congestion. But now its more like being capped. When I restart my phone n use just the phone to FB n youtube, the speed normal @30Mbps, but when i start tethering the speed suddenly decrease to 1-2Mbps.. walao! Like being cheated ooo.. haihhh

Its weird, just happens from 7pm to 11pm only. If the whole day 24/7 then I hae no problem to try invest for router

But after reset the modem, the problem solved.

Firmware limitation on the stock firmware of MR3420. Should be solved with the Rooter firmware .

my house area digi coverage getting weak, don't know what is digi doing. from 4 bars to 3bars, recently only 2 bars.

might just terminate this plan soon, can't replace my streamyx.

Maybe Digi is doing maintenance on that tower that you are connected to.

For my case, I have a B3 Tower that I always connect to. For the past few days it did not work.
Moved my modem to the living room to connect to another B7 tower. Surprisingly that B7 tower got somewhat upgraded with and I was able to get CA, almost doubling the speed.

That applicable if I am connecting to a PC and always on it. I'm referring remote access direct to the modem like other brands do without have to use with a PC using Teamviewer.

That happens to me with ROOter firmware dated 1 July 2017, same thing happened also with 15 April 2017 firmware.

Does DIGI perform any traffic shaping on VPN?

My company VPN is very slow with Digi. But if I use other telco, the response is better.
I usually connect to the VPN, then remote Desktop to another work PC.
I get 26ms pings at speed tests with non-Digi but Malaysian server. But Remote Desktop via VPN is quite a pain with this telco.
