It depends as well, somehow I feel my rabbit ears work better than MIMO. It has been some time since I last used it, maybe I should try again now. laugh.gif
*
I suspect the rabbit ears have a wider beamwidth, i.e. less forgiving on the direction, compared to the '88dbi' mimo.

For the '88dbi', if my direction is off by 15-20degrees ish, i loose 1 bar.

So I think for now is that I should buy a prepaid sim to try the speed of the connection , what prepaid sim card does digi offers?

And for the router I think I'm just getting the Huawei E5186 4G Cat6 , because the b525 is really expensive and the speed drops a lot when receiving or making calls.

There's this website that sells the Huawei E5186 for RM 373.19 . Not sure if it's trusted or not.Cheap Huawei E5186

This is 61a model.
You need 22a model.

If you want to buy prepaid sim, then try with your phone is enough. Dont spend so much for modem later cannot use.

Any digi sim is ok.

My experience with cell tower mapping apps is each app gives me a completely different location for a particular tower.  Don't know who to believe.
*
Like i said.
Use network cell info.

Most of the towers that it pointed is accurate within 10-20meter

The data is crowd sourced and the location is determined by trigonometry calculation so it is never going to be accurate.

Only Digi know the exact location and the beam patterns of the cells.
*
Can ask bro prosibu for beam patterns and location.

Network Cell Info uses the database from unwiredlabs
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cell_ID

Other than locations for MVNOs and Unifi/webe, I am able to get pretty accurate locations of towers around my housing area in Penang, and my hometown in Kedah.

Most of the time if I want to know the exact location, I will drive near the base station and start scanning with Network Signal Guru. I did that while trying to aim the MIMO antenna.

ive seen lazada selling those Yagi outdoor antenna for less than rm 200 but im not sure whether is it genuinely going to perform any better. cause good reliable outdoor antenna will set you more than rm 500 and above.
*
Yagi are a hit or miss if you don't know what you are ordering.
Many fake stuff listed.

Bought a TDJ branded for B3-1800 MHz. It works fine, but since it is just 1 Antenna, I need another to get MIMO. It still can't beat the 4G MIMO LTE '88dbi'

The best is the one listed in Garage Sales, Metteor Link, but the seller no longer bring in. It is AMY brand.
https://ameison.en.alibaba.com/ MOQ is pretty huge.

Saw some lintratek brand Yagi, seem to be nice, but couldn't be bothered to spend the money on it.

Here's one guy's finding on Yagis

where do u guys buy extension cable for external antenna? searched in lazada and shopee, all shipped from overseas.

im looking for SMA cable btw..
*
How long you need to extend?
Best to do power extension of your CPE and connect to the CPE via LAN.

You can look for RG58 or RG174. Basically 50 Ohm coax, but those 2 are common.
RG58 is better, but more expensive. If you find those with N-connector and you add adapter, you will be adding more loses. Coax extension is not like power cable or Lan cable extension. Any length or converter introduces losses. Even just 5 meters extension will add a lot of loss

5-10meters. Planning to put my MIMO antenna outdoor.

I can't move the modem due to limitation of devices connected to it (my androidbox has no wifi capability).

If length will be an issue for signal loss, what about those external antenna people mount outdoors? e.g. rooftop etc.
*
Rule of thumb: Shorter antenna cable = less signal loss.
You can't get as good as if your mount it with shorter coax compared to longer coax.

Example:
Let say right now with existing setup you bring your Antenna outdoor and test the speed. You found out it is good. If you add an coax extension, the speed will not be as good.

Worse case, you get less speed compared to leaving the antenna indoors.
Best case, you prove me wrong and get very good speed increase due to your house being a mobile dark spot.

Can do such connection to your android box.
Modem -> Cat5e-> Switch/WIFI repeater ->Cat5e -> Android box

Hey guys. Recently just subscribed to digi 150. Read through the first pages for the modems, but I thought after 300 pages there would be "the best router to use" out here now.

So which router would you guys recommend? Easy to set up and use.

Is Huawei devices recommended? Or the cheaper dlink alternatives?

And I read some parts about some modems beings sim blocked or something like that.
*
Digi only supports B3+B7 at the moment
The cheapest device is AC790s

I am using Huawei e5186-22a
Buy from eBay or Taobao.
Or there is a FB group called Digi infinite where there are a lot of sellers.

Anything extra is for future proofing.

is the archer MR200 is 4G LTE-A? i have that and use my i150, but the speed is very sad. been a few months as my aprt only can support 2mb stimix. i just purchased 88dbi mimo anteana, is that going to help? i just got only 1-2 bars
*
LTE only. Not LTE-A

Use your phone + download the App called Network signal info.
If you got a rooted phone. use together with Network signal guru app.

Note the values of RSSNR, RSRP, RSRQ as indicators for signal strength.
ECI is the CellID of the base station. Each base station has a unique CellID.

Go to the map tab and it should show you which tower you are connected to.
There are a few towers in your vicinity. Drive around your house to view the physical telco tower locations. Hint: signal strength improves if you are near the tower. RSRP of around -50 to -60dBm indicates that you are very near.

Trial and error to find the best location in your house with the best speed. Some are indoors, some are outdoors. Some may need to place on roof, others just place on balcony. Sometimes windows closed is better than windows opened. Concrete house corner has some signal reflection capability that improves signal strength.

Takes some trial and error.

I already offload my local network routing/QoS to DD-WRT router. My E5186 is just a dumb modem.

What about speed improvement?

just want to judge quantitatively the speed difference

cable to computer is ok for surfing.. but for wifi is terriblely slow.
maybe the router not strong enough.

Tempting to opt into digi infinite becoz no need contract, can cancel anytime.
Plus i got the digi mifi device huawei e5577. Dunno that device strong enough or not

Torrent very slow right?

The history of why I subscribed to Digi Infinite 150:
Using expensive Unifi VIP 30 since 2015 at RM199/month + RM20 for Voice = RM219/month
Contract was until mid July 2017
Subscribed to Infinite 150 in July and bought Huawei e5186s-22a
Tested it and can get speed of up to 80mbps at the begining
So have been using Infinite 150 since July 2017 until now
The service has been downhill all the way.....

Now that Unifi offers 30mbps for RM139, might as well go back and get a whole new set of equipment and use it for another two years.

I HOPE BY THE END OF TWO YEARS, IE FEBRUARY 2020 Digi WOULD HAVE AN ATTRACTIVE UNLIMITED PACKAGE,
something like Digi Infinite 100 broadband of RM100/month of up to 100mbps...

Let's hope......

Here is the speed:  shocking.gif

Wired > wireless especially when we talk about fiber. I'd pay 199 for 30mbps if that was the last choice i have. But i onyl have streamyx 4mbps so there's that.

2 years later we will still be looking at lte-a/lte-pro technology.
100mbps rm100 is not possible for wireless.1 base station can only support so much bandwidth

QUOTE(herojack41 @ Feb 24 2018, 11:09 PM)
There will be more competitive mobile broadband plan coming soon. if you had notice that there is repurpose exercise on 700mhz spectrum that are just for mobile broadband by the government.

Major big player already submitted their tender for the spectrum.

About your downhill experience, nothing much can be done if too many user connected to the same cell tower. wireless is a SHARE bandwidth stuff.

plus some inconsider prick decided to torrent on the network
*
700MHz is not for speed. Its more for coverage. Dont expect 700MHz to perform any magic. 5-10Mbps on single 700mhz band without CA would be a realistic expectation.

Weird as some of you guys experiencing slow Internet, like chuahcacs and fruitie

As mine are getting better.

My download speed maintain at 50-60Mbps

upload now more faster compared to 10Mbps,now upload 30Mbps ish
*
Depends on area and base station load.
If you stay in Middle of nowhere, or your area have good Unifi/Time coverage, and most people didn't bother switching to Digi, then good for you.
Fruitie and chuah looks to be staying in high dense area, and perhaps more people switching to Infinite.

Probably some freshgrad MBA in Digi came up with this plan after looking at network utilization, but didn't analyze the data properly.
Now it backfired and Digi management have fire burning butts.
Because infinite plans like this, if you discontinue, then surely kena big backlash. Have to publish video for 'kasi chan' laugh.gif

Time and time again, there are examples showing unlimited plans cannot work in long term.
Look at how P1/Webe , Umobile crash and burned

*
For chuah, he shared that he is able to get decent speeds at other areas.
Just the place he stay is down to 5Mbps. Which is likely due to congestion rather than Digi aiming for his head

nope. according to his previous post, he said he said he unable to lock into the usual tower that he used to get 100Mbps..and when he walks around penang town he also unable to lock to uncongested band 3 tower and only lock into band 7 which only he able to get 55Mbps.

seems like digi purposely ban him from locking him into fast/uncongested tower at his house. and redirect to congested tower. as result, he only able to get 5Mbps..
*
Digi so free purposely aim his sim card to lock him away meh?
Like that he just have to register a sim with a different name, then can enjoy back full speed already.

In seriousness though, the base station that he usually used is either removed/damage/under maintenance/ or just aimed to another direction, causing him unable to lock to the preferred base station. Given that Digi's average 4G speed is less than fantastic, constantly getting 100Mbps in a dense area suggests that the base station is under utilized. The most likely scenario is that the base station was adjusted to cover a different area.

Chuah's area in USM is less dense, but the area around USM is densely populated.
