I've been reading some threads is AVS forum, and keep hearing blu boys keep repeating that blu-ray is superior and much better quality than hd dvd. Can somebody shed some light on why it is better, besides a bigger space, even with unfinished product and more expensive? Its making me confuse........
*
those blu-boys are PS3 owners. there millions of PS3 owners out there, many received the PS3 from their parents. they are corrupting every internet forum about hidef.

Go to the HD DVD threads if you want to hear the voices of HT enthusiasts wink.gif

basically they are claiming all the craps that in real life doesnt matter to people to buy the BD players.

50GB ? hello !! check the amount of disk for the same title released by Warner tongue.gif
and yeah .. bit rate and PCM .. most of the blu boys are highlighting that now because most of their talking points were muted by current events wink.gif I bet these are the same people that channel their PS3 audio to their tv speakers !! rolleyes.gif rolleyes.gif

let me know when they actually talk about something that matters to consumers.

i can highlight several items that are not good for consumers that HD DVD does not have though wink.gif

BD+
Water mark - allows content owners to embed player serial numbers to the layer.

but anyhow there were few HD DVD bois acting the same too but i would not say the the number is near blubois. check the amount of bd forums and read their posts. and try to look for hd dvd forums and read their posts wink.gif

Xbox 360 to get new HD DVD drive

http://www.pcw.co.uk/personal-computer-wor...-dvd-drive-2008

Microsoft will launch an updated HD DVD drive for the Xbox 360 in 2008, it said at its 25th hardware anniversary in London today.

Mark Bennett, Microsoft's European business development director for HD DVD, demonstrated the technology's advanced interactive features and pointed out that Paramount, Universal Studios and many Warner Brothers high definition titles are exclusive to HD DVD.

"The interactive features actually work on HD DVD whereas Blu-ray titles are six to nine months away from getting features that actually work," Bennett said, referring to Blu-ray's current inability to do picture in picture videos.

Bennett also said "there are more plans to incorporate HD DVD into the PC platform in the future."

The original Xbox360 HD DVD drive, which launched in November 2006, was fully compatible with Windows PCs and proved a hit for being the cheapest high definition drive on sale.

The event, which was celebrating Microsoft's 25th anniversary of making computer hardware, saw the software giant revive its PC gaming peripherals with a new sidewinder mouse and new ergonomic keyboards and mice.

There were also multi-coloured Xbox360 controllers and it said it would sell high definition download movie rentals over its Live service before Christmas in the UK - one of the first such services to hit these isles. Pricing hasn't been announced yet, but it demonstrated a 720p movie measuring 4GB costing 480 credits, which equates to about £4.

HD DVD just edged BD 1GB with their 51 triple layer disk officiallly approved by DVD Forum hehehehe

now all they need to do is to put 1 movie on the triple layer disk to kick BD in the head. and oh, makesure that it plays on every single HD DVD players on the planet too ofcourse, unlike the new FOX titles, Lusa and Fantastica 4 that wont play in half of the standalone BD players sweat.gif sweat.gif

http://www.videobusiness.com/article/CA6487214.html

OCT. 4 | A working group within the DVD Forum has approved the specification for a triple-layer 51GB HD DVD, confirmed a spokesperson for the North American HD DVD Promotion Group, opening the door for the format to be competitive with Blu-ray Disc's highest-capacity 50GB disc.

Replicators can now start producing 51GB HD DVD discs, which include three layers holding 17GB capacity each. Production should drive manufacturers to begin testing how existing HD DVD players and drives can playback such the new discs.

No studio has announced plans to release a 51GB HD DVD, which was first announced as a developing technology during January's CES. However, HD DVD backers will likely use the ability to create such high-capacity discs as ammunition in the format war.

Many Blu-ray supporters have pointed to their own 50GB BD releases as a competitive advantage to HD DVD, which to date has generated 15GB and 30GB discs. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment's Oct. 30 BD release of Spider-Man 3 is among upcoming Blu-ray titles containing 50GB discs.

A2 - 1080i - similar to A3 - only that A3 is 3rd gen - therefor should be faster load time tongue.gif and cheaper built

A20 is 1080p and is similar to A30.

you may try A35 if you want too - analogue out put for non HDMI receiver and Anchor Bay video interlacer - good upconversion according to reports tongue.gif

Island Fever 4 to Burn On HD DVD

One-time Blu-ray backer Digital Playground will release the film next week.
By Swanni

Washington, D.C. (October 16, 2007) -- Digital Playground, which is run by the one-name Joone, will release Island Fever 4 next week on HD DVD.

The launch is significant for two reasons:

1. Digital Playground was originally a Blu-ray supporter. 2. Despite numerous articles that it could decide the high-def disc format war, the adult industry has released less than 20 titles in either Blu-ray or HD DVD.

Island Fever 4 -- yes, the fourth film in the series -- will be released in HD DVD on October 23. Online sites are now selling it for around $40.

The girls of Island Fever 4.

A year ago, Digital Playground was all set to back Blu-ray with a slew of releases. However, Joone and other adult executives turned sour on the Sony-supported format when Sony-led production facilities offered little help in the replication process.

Sony denied that it was stiffing the adult industry, but the message came through.

Consequently, several adult studios said they would back HD DVD by default. Joone was quoted as saying he would support the format because it "was the only one available."

In the past 18 months, various newspaper and online publications have hinted that the adult industry could turn the tide in the format war, pointing to its influence over sales of Beta and VHS videotape players in the 1980s. (The adult industry sided with VHS.). But the format war and other issues have kept most titles off the market.

For those keeping score, Island Fever 4 was awarded the AVN 2007 "Best All-Girl Sex Scene."

'Transformers' HD DVD Smashes First-Week Sales Records

Paramount says first-week sales numbers for its HD DVD release of 'Transformers' top those of any other high-def disc released on either next gen format to date.

According to a just-issued press release from Paramount, the HD DVD edition of 'Transformers' sold over 100,000 units in its first day of release, and went on to sell an additional 90,000 units over next six days, making it the fastest and best-selling week one release on either high definition format, as well as the best selling HD DVD ever.

The standard-def version of 'Transformers' also made news, moving over 8.3 million units in its first week, and 4.5 million copies on day one, a new record for the year 2007.

The performance of the 'Transformers' DVD and HD DVD has demonstrated the phenomenal success of this global franchise," said Kelley Avery, president, Worldwide Home Entertainment, Paramount Pictures. "We're happy to be kicking off the fourth quarter with a title that clearly shows home entertainment releases are still an event that drives consumers into stores-which is a win for both content providers and retailers."

Paramount's HD DVD release of 'Transformers' last week came less than two months after the studio abruptly announced it would drop support of the Blu-ray format, and would release its next-gen titles on HD DVD exclusively. The studio reportedly received $150 million in exchange for its exclusivity.

Thanks to Michael for the tip!

Slysoft's statement implying that BD+ has already been broken laugh.gif

AnyDVD goes AACS MKBv4

QUOTE
SlySoft was recently honoured by AACS-LA, being declared as public enemy number one in the ongoing battle for copyright protection.

To prove them right and to take on the challenge, SlySoft has just released the latest AnyDVD version which beats the latest 4th generation HD-DVD and BluRay copy protection MKBv4, which was expected to be unbreakable.

All that AACS-LA has to offer now is BD+, but even that is on the verge of being circumvented and a release is expected by the end of this year. James Wong, Head of development at SlySoft: "We already found a way to crack BD+ and we have just turned to fine-tuning. I should really think about hiring a bodyguard now, since this product won't please everybody."

Giancarlo Bettini, CEO of SlySoft: "One could start feeling sorry for the poor movie industry guys, but in the end, it saves their jobs and ours. Actually, they could be grateful and show a little bit more appreciation. Beating AACS-LA's protection was a challenge that we accepted passionately, since winning feels a lot better if the opponent is almost as strong as we are. However, I wonder when people will understand that more restrictions, pressure and protections that prevent things from working won't generate more but less revenue. Microsoft's revenue in the 90ies prove us right and even Apple recently released a DRM-free iTunes version."
