Read from other thread that XBOX uses component cables (cannot view at 1080). What resolution you viewing?

Also no HD audio.  sad.gif

Where you getting the Toshiba? Online purchase?  rclxms.gif

who said so cannot view 1080p? Im using a vga connection to my lcd tv sharp G7 for 1080P resolution...but for the audio...its only 5.1...DTS for HD-DVD

The lossless audio might be useful once im getting the tosh gen3, but I still needs to purchade the onkyo 803 receiver for the full compatibility, and bear in mind that HD audio is not only depending on your player alone...but also with your amplifier/receiver....and requires 7.1 speaker setup...

For toshiba...adalah.....getting the same source in US where i get my oppo 981HD.... thumbup.gif

rclxms.gif rclxms.gif rclxms.gif padam punyalah muka. Sony build up the 'exclusivity' hype. and now Toshiba is utilizing it to kill Sony. Ahhhh IRONY !!

AND no one is the right mind would bet Wal-mart banking on BD's cheapest $499 player on its customers when the HD DVD players will be available at $199 or less from MULTIPLE CEs biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Warner Bros. Weighing HD DVD Offer?
The Los Angeles Times says so, quoting "Hollywood insiders."
By Swanni

Washington, D.C. (September 10, 2007) -- Warner Bros is considering a "lucrative offer" to back HD DVD exclusively in the high-def disc format war.

That's according to an article in today's Los Angeles Times.

Warner Bros. is now releasing titles in both Blu-ray and HD DVD and the studio has preached that the two-format approach has led to increased sales of such titles as The Departed.

But the surprise departure last month of Steve Nickerson, Warner Home Video's senior vice president for High-Definition, has raised speculation that the studio may be reconsidering its policy. Nickerson was an outspoken booster of the two-format approach in the high-def war.

The Times writes that "Hollywood insiders" say Warner is "mulling over a lucrative offer that could bring such popular titles as Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix into the HD DVD camp." The newspaper doesn't say, but the offer is presumably from Toshiba, the leading backer of the HD DVD format.

If Warner were to endorse HD DVD exclusively, it would follow similar exclusive endorsements last month from Paramount and DreamWorks. (Universal is also backing HD DVD exclusively while four major studios are supporting Blu-ray exclusively.)

While a Warner switch would seriously boost HD DVD's chances in the high-def format war, the Times reports that the Blu-ray side is also busy trying to line up exclusive deals with studios and retailers.

Wal-Mart, the newspaper said, had set a mid-August deadline for deciding which format to keep in its stores; it now carries both players. But Toshiba supposedly offered a large promotional budget to support HD DVD sales in a recent meeting at Wal-Mart headquarters.

Wal-Mart would not comment on that, but told the Times that "it would be good for the studios or somebody to make the call (on the high-def format war.)."

I've been reading some threads is AVS forum, and keep hearing blu boys keep repeating that blu-ray is superior and much better quality than hd dvd. Can somebody shed some light on why it is better, besides a bigger space, even with unfinished product and more expensive? Its making me confuse........

those blu-boys are PS3 owners. there millions of PS3 owners out there, many received the PS3 from their parents. they are corrupting every internet forum about hidef.

Go to the HD DVD threads if you want to hear the voices of HT enthusiasts wink.gif

basically they are claiming all the craps that in real life doesnt matter to people to buy the BD players.

50GB ? hello !! check the amount of disk for the same title released by Warner tongue.gif
and yeah .. bit rate and PCM .. most of the blu boys are highlighting that now because most of their talking points were muted by current events wink.gif I bet these are the same people that channel their PS3 audio to their tv speakers !! rolleyes.gif rolleyes.gif

let me know when they actually talk about something that matters to consumers.

i can highlight several items that are not good for consumers that HD DVD does not have though wink.gif

BD+
Water mark - allows content owners to embed player serial numbers to the layer.

Xbox 360 to get new HD DVD drive

http://www.pcw.co.uk/personal-computer-wor...-dvd-drive-2008

Microsoft will launch an updated HD DVD drive for the Xbox 360 in 2008, it said at its 25th hardware anniversary in London today.

Mark Bennett, Microsoft's European business development director for HD DVD, demonstrated the technology's advanced interactive features and pointed out that Paramount, Universal Studios and many Warner Brothers high definition titles are exclusive to HD DVD.

"The interactive features actually work on HD DVD whereas Blu-ray titles are six to nine months away from getting features that actually work," Bennett said, referring to Blu-ray's current inability to do picture in picture videos.

Bennett also said "there are more plans to incorporate HD DVD into the PC platform in the future."

The original Xbox360 HD DVD drive, which launched in November 2006, was fully compatible with Windows PCs and proved a hit for being the cheapest high definition drive on sale.

The event, which was celebrating Microsoft's 25th anniversary of making computer hardware, saw the software giant revive its PC gaming peripherals with a new sidewinder mouse and new ergonomic keyboards and mice.

There were also multi-coloured Xbox360 controllers and it said it would sell high definition download movie rentals over its Live service before Christmas in the UK - one of the first such services to hit these isles. Pricing hasn't been announced yet, but it demonstrated a 720p movie measuring 4GB costing 480 credits, which equates to about £4.
