yeap, got ur no... u're very rite on opening a bank account in UK. they've got strict requirements on that. The Passport current account is proveded by the UK HSBC and itz to cater for holiday makers like us. we're to open the account before we enter UK. Thus, it saves the hassle of having to produce lots of hard-to-get docs when u're there...
answers for ur question is HERE
well, according to my fren in UK, getting a job is kinda hard in UK at the moment with the east europeans flocking into UK. Be ready to work trial hour (maybe 4-6 hour) without any salary just for the employer to judge whether u're rite for the job. Aniwae, go to some countryside of or small city and u stands a higher chance to get a job. There's plenty of restaurant which is run by Hongkie and we chinese are kinda wanted there. Apologies if there's any non-chinese here. No racism intended.

It's better to get a job through a job agency, imo. I may be wrong tho.
It depends actually. If u got a handsome amount of moolah in ur account and you're not working. It's better to get ur father to write a letter stating that ur trip is sponsored by him and attach his bank statement or whateva proof of funds he got for u. That might help alot.Me going with my gf... come to think of it, who's going and who's not? letz make a list so that we can get updates, yeah???

cheers...

Do this apply if my sponsor is my Aunt ? she is willing to write a letter , provide bank statement and proof of income .

So I do not need to supply my bank statement and others as I do not have any financial evidence of myself but my aunt's ( summiting hers only ) ...

And another question is my sister is planning to apply for it , so is it possible ? She will be sponsorred by another Aunt of ours . Your two cents please . Thanks .

Y not... How old is your sister and what is the source of the doubt in you?

if your sister is below the age of 18 years old, then she needs to state if there's an accompanying adult going with her. The adult needs to apply for the WHM visa and approved as well.

For your sponsorship doubts, I've extracted an excerpt from the British High Comm. Websites

really ? even for part-time job?

btw, those under this visa, r they goin to hold part-time or full-time job?

NI number is like IC number in Malaysia, they will ask for it when you apply for the job. The best way is to use the TN and apply for a proper NI number later. It is a lengthy process with interview with Inland Revenue i think.

UK Visa impose restriction on the holder, for example on a student visa it will say "Work must be authorised by State" or something like that. That means that you can only work for 24 hours (or maybe 20) a week max. AFAIK there is no restriction on WHM visa, so you can work as much as you want. When my friend applied for this visa yearrrs ago, they said that you work for 1 year and travel for the other year and you must go back to Malaysia after, there will be no extension.
I assume that on this Visa, it will only says "No public recourse for funds", that means that you cannot apply for benefit here, you will have to pay NI but no benefit.

You're coming to UK as a holiday worker?

Since it's summer, you don't really need to worry about winter clothing, you can get them cheap over here.

Avoid bringing in dried seafood as it's not allowed. It would always be useful to keep some snacks and a few packs of instant noodles since when you first arrived, it's not easy to get something to eat.

I'm not sure if anyone mentioned this but travelling with a Young Person Railcard makes life for your wallet a lot more easier. I *think* people under 28 would be eligible and you get ~30% off on most trainfares.

Added on May 22, 2007, 12:32 pmBtw, Geminist,
The "Young Person RailCard" mentioned by Geminist is only for travellers age between 16 to 25 years of age. Nonetheless, thanx for the tips on this.

cheers

I'm in London at the moment.

Yeap, you get loads of people flooding in. However, you can expect a lot of locals sunbathing everywhere as well.

I see, apologies for the mistake. My card is tucked somewhere under the pillow as I don't use it very often.

Hey guys smile.gif

Just sharing my experience.

I got my WHM visa in Feb 2005, my grandma passed away 3 weeks after and I was asked to postpone my travel for 3 months (till 100th day kenduri as a sign of respect). I didnt use my visa at all cause once you enter, cannot reapply in the future dy and I cant afford a 3 months discount on my visa - it really messed up with my travel plans.

Anyhoo, I'm willing to share my experience on the process of getting one. Check out these links - read till your eyes bleed wink.gif

http://www.travellerspoint.com/forum.cfm?thread=3567 (71 pages of WHM goodness)

http://www.travellerspoint.com/forum.cfm?thread=33395 (16 pages of posts for Msians)

I'll be reapplying again in 2008 with my future spouse! biggrin.gif

Cheers!

wow, thatz really an informative site, bro... thanx.

aniwae, the WHM can only be applied once in a lifetime. since you did not use the visa, did u inform the UK embassy (is there a need for this?) to void your visa? can you still apply for the WHV the second time?

cheers

My visa is considered void cause it's unused (no entry to UK from Feb 2005 - Feb 2007). If I spend just one day I wont be able to apply again in the future.

Yeah I can still apply again cause it's void and I'm only 25 this year wink.gif

Just go to the bank and change/buy it. That should be it.

When you arrive in UK, then either change it at the hotel(provided they accepts TC) go change it in a bank.

I'm not so sure, but thatz wat the bank told me when I ask them sometime ago.

cheers
