QUOTE(crystal_kit85 @ Jul 6 2008, 08:03 AM)
I was one of the first few batches that came here with a WHM Visa end of last year on completion of my degree course. Like most of the WHM visa holders here, i myself have been through a lot while applying for it but i was lucky enough to have breezed through it without much of a hassle. On contrary, starting up here was never easy as i would have to get all the necessary stuffs done such as applying for N.I, setting up a bank account, getting myself registered for a GP and last but not least hunting for jobs. All of these does give you a pain on the ass.

Fortunately, i've got all of the things being sorted out with the help from my friends whom are studying here. Having said that, the next step was to start hunting for jobs, it took me about a month and a half before i could land myself a job as the companies here closes their financial year at the end of January and recruitment will not be done before that.

Needless to say, February was the month where everything started to be on my favor, i've got myself a decent job with a great working environment that comes with fantastic people, they have been very supportive of me by constantly making my presence felt welcomed, always stood up for me for the wrong doings i did as i'm still new to the job , and they have the plunge and patience to pass on their knowledge as well as their experiences to me. Thus, the rest is history.

I couldn't agree more with this statement "All good things, Have to come to an end", this is only my 7th month here and i have been pressured to be back in Malaysia to kick start my career, as a result of that i'll finish off my chapter in UK by touring Europe this coming week. I do regret the fact that i'll have to be back in Malaysia so soon as i have only used up 7 months out of the 24 months that is being given. But at the same time i've got to accept the fact that my parents' did not work so hard to give me good education so that i could end up with a job that is not in my area of expertise nor did i worked so hard in University to be enjoying my life here.

I would really want to thank and express my appreciation to the relevant parties that have came up with this visa and that Malaysians are eligible for it. It has really been a fairytale journey for me living my life to the fullest in a foreign country. This visa acts as a window of opportunities for those that wants to experience life abroad while spending significantly lesser amount of money as oppose to studying here, as not all of our parents has got the financial capabilities to send us here for studies.

However, for those that have just stepped their foot in the UK, i wish you all the best and remember to live your life to the fullest and make sure you appreciate all the things you have done or are about to do here and do not forget that it is because of our parents effort and blessing that we could end up here.

Cheers.

Hey anyone need a place to stay in London?

I got my interview scheduled for next month 5th. My friend wants to rent of the room as of 25th July. If all goes well, I'll be there on 22nd August.

So I just need someone to occupy the room for about 3 weeks.
Its a double room all inclusive (internet, utilities, council tax etc), it's a friend's place in Brixton. She's really nice. It's 3 room maissonette, comes with everything u technically wont need hahaha - dvd, SKY, big ass flat screen tv, power shower.

For 3 weeks, I'd need you to pay 300pounds. I'm paying the deposit and a months worth rent, so you just have to pay 300pounds for the 3 weeks to me. Move in on the 25th july and leave on 20th hopefully.

Anyone interested?

I'm studying/working part-time in Manchester.
Quite easy to get a part-time job in Manchester.
Living cost is acceptable, as long as you work and manage your expenses carefully.

I am not sure if all of you aware, there might not be WHW anymore and there are now going to implement new regulations which is like Australia, whether you are eligible or not depends on the points system.

However the details I am not too sure.

I work closely with them and when i met them last month they told it's confirmed thay WHV will be abolished soon after new system takes effect . And i think its a good thing as well, cause they would want to have more professional to enter UK legally.

Just to share : I have met a girl who went to work in UK when she is barely 16 yrs old when there and work illegally and been there for 10 yrs, and there a lot of them have been caught there working there after expiry of WHV or travel permits nowadays. And consequence : Bar 10 yrs at least from entering UK and 5 yrs to travel overseas.

As for working holiday visa, its still existing until being replaced and moved to to the new system soon. So advisable to surf their official website before applying.

do you mean by working part time?

if so, don't expect it is enough. you are allowed to work a max. of 20 hours a week with study visa during academic time. you might able to pay 10-20% of your study fees, but that depends on how much you earn as well.

the point based system is only applicable to highly skilled worker visa, which is an replacement to the current HSMP.

WHV is completely different, but yes it might change but to how, i am unsure too.

just change of name, and more restriction on entry. basically they are quite the same as what we have now.

and the employer will be fined £10000 nowadays if they are caught to employ someone without the proper visa. therefore employers nowadays wouldnt want to take the risk anymore.

Added on July 10, 2008, 7:03 ambesides those skilled worker permit, which you are required to have certain points before allowed entry, there are other method of entry that allowed you to work in uk, e.g. the sponsored skilled worker.

points systems based on age, qualification, last 12 months earning, experience working or studying in Uk, english skill and must have at least RM 18,031.3...

For the main applicant this is £2,800 with a further £1,600 needed for each dependant accompanying you or planning to join you within 12 months of your arrival in the UK. These amounts must be held in your personal bank account for a minimum period of 3 months immediately preceding and dated no more than 7 days prior to the date you submit your application. The balance should not fall below the required minimum at any time during the 3 month period.

The officer in British HC told me is a matter of time before WHV to be totally abolished and replaced with the new system.

I also read that the new visa, which is Youth Mobility something actually allows you to work the 2 years, and it is not like the current WHM, where you are only allowed to work maximum of 1 year.

Nov 2008 / Autumn 2008, Tier 5 - Temporary Worker Visa is said to be phased in. I read it somewhere online. Can't remember which website.

Youth Mobility Workers

This tier will encompass current rules involving youth mobility workers, who are people allowed to work in the UK for a temporary period of time to satisfy primarily non-economic objectives, e.g. Working Holiday Makers, and Temporary Exchange Workers.

If you wish to come to the UK under a Tier 5 visa, you will need to be:

* a citizen of a participating company; or
* a British overseas citizen; or
* a British overseas territory citizen; or
* a British national (overseas)

You will also need to be sponsored by your governent, if you are not a British overseas citizen, British overseas territory citizen, or a British national (overseas).

HSMP versus Tier1As a worker in the UK under Tier 5, you will not be allowed to switch out of your current tier into another tier, as you would be allowed to do in the highly skilled migrant tier, the skilled migrant tier, and the student tier.

You must be aged between 18 and 30 years of age and have sufficient funds to support yourself when you first arrive in the UK until you find a employment.

You are not eligible to come to the UK under a Tier 5 visa if you have dependant children or have previously come to the UK as a working holidaymaker.

When Tier 5 is implemented, it will replace the following schemes:

* au pair scheme
* British Universities North America Club scheme
* Gap year entrants
* Japan: Youth Exchange
* research assistants to the Members of Parliament
* Working Holiday Makers scheme
