Tonight we celebrate the 20th anniversary of Metal Gear.

While I've only been a member of Kojima Productions for three of those twenty years, I still have a long-standing love for the series.

Metal Gear became a big part of my life when I first played Metal Gear Solid in my family's cold basement in 1998. My appreciation grew to new heights when I played through Metal Gear Solid 3 three times during a cold winter in Hamasaka, Japan in 2005. And my dedication to the series kicked off when I officially joined the development team in September 2005.

Walking to work today, a flood of thoughts ran through my jet-lagged brain -- so much to do today... Shame that some choose to focus on negative aspects of Metal Gear rather than celebrating it on the eve of the party... This new Interpol album is unbelievable... Can't wait to see my friends at tonight's party... Gotta blog about this...

These are exciting times. We're months, not years, away from finishing MGS4... We've got plenty of new stuff in the oven... And we've got an incredible fan base who drives us.

We celebrate Metal Gear with you all tonight.

And tonight, thanks to our kick ass web team and members of the press who traveled thousands of miles for this event, you'll be getting a full report of tonight's festivities. Tonight we'll also be announcing new MGS products. Now before you all go Krazy Kermit style and hype this all to megaton proportions, let me just say that MGO's triumphant debut on PS3 is a much bigger deal than the unannounced stuff. I know many of you will purchase and pick up the stuff we're announcing , but we've got no "Triology"-like game ready for a big unveiling tonight.

Now it's time for me to get back to work.

A side note some might be interested in: in the last E3 Metal Gear trailer, one figure in the fox hound group (with Meryl) remained a mystery many people were guessing it to be Raiden because of the small bit of blood hair visible from his eye slit, but...ITS NOT RAIDEN, UM DUM DAAAAA!!!!!

The conference is planed in two parts. The first is an on stage demonstration of metal gear solid 4 and 'announcement of new Metal Gear series content," second part is industry mingling and live musical performances.

And, just now, sir Ryan Payton (former freelancer, now with Kojima Productions!) sits down next to me in his spiffy suit and mini faux-hawk and gives me soul-crushing news: no video will be allowed of either of the games shown on screen, but we will get direct feed video of MGS4, embargoed until midnight local time 15 minutes long. Phew.

But, Metal Gear Online, the other game that they will apparently show, will only be released to the public in screen shots.

Outside, cosplayers of Snake and Meryl pose for the cameras. Also here are the special anniversary boxes for the re-release of all the Metal Gear games.

Attendees are mingling outside the hall with a host of old metal gear posters, action figures, and games, including the original MSX title that started it all 20 years ago. Seen mingling outside: Atsushi Inaba (of Seed, formerly Clover), Hino-san from Level 5, Suda 51 and surely many others.

Additionally, they will start a closed beta test for MGO for 3,000 people. Stars August 20th and ends September 4th.

Kojima is getting a codec message on stage and has a MG-branded cell phone. There's going to be a 3D Metal Gear Solid cell phone game. Looks between Metal Gear Solid 1 and 2 in quality. Release date and price TBA. Sony will be releasing a special MG-branded phone with the game pre-installed on it.
