QUOTE(Sugre @ May 18 2007, 10:59 AM)
Does their pee smell? I finds my critters pee quite smelly! When they pee on me I have to wash it immediately. Plus it only takes them a day to make their cage smelly again, after the cage was painstakingly washed and  scrubbed down  shocking.gif

Has anyone tried doing tent time with their suggies yet? If yes..... where can I find a free standing tent that isn't too pricey?
*
Yeah...male's pee smell ... definitely you want to wash it off as soon as they do that....

As for your cage to be smelly...if you have males...then no choice..you have to bare with it...as soon as you clean the cage...they will place their smell back to the cage as what they want...it is like marking their territory...therefore i give up sometimes..and just got use with it.....as i have 2 males in my cage...which means the smell is 2xtimes.... doh.gif

not too sure about tent time as i let my gliders roam around my living room.....

i just realized one thing.....i think it's also due to my roomate smoking in my room...cn u all post some non-smoking stuff here so he doesnt smoke in the room???..thanks ...yeah i bought all the stuff...n started feeding them...thhey dun like crickets though...but i dunno where cn i get wheat germs....anyways thanks for advice...
*
Smoking could cause stress as it is natural for animals to run away from smoke(signs of fire).

What stuff have you bought? Gliders don't simply eat wheat germ like that you know...

I am serious the smell is like.....don't know what to say...hahahha...because i have 2 males and 1 female...poor eowyn also smell like them a bit....hahhaa...

For me, i try to get those 100% natural anti-odor spray thing and spray at the bottom of the cage..as they hardly go at the bottom....it works for every 2 days only

Last time when i have small cage and with just gollum there....i use the woody pet as what reanne recommended...not bad...can last for 1 week....

I just bought Kaytee Timothy Hay at pet safari yesterday and it has a very nice smell..will try to put it this weekend and see whether it helps or not.....

Ohh... but I guess I also need to get air freshener since I'm keeping in my room...

2 days ago, Kiah very naughty.... she went out of my room, went into the bathroom to play. Knocked down shampoo bottles and sponges to the floor.... and I think she jumped into the toilet bowl.... thank goodness she jumped out but she left the staircase wet.... then she went down stairs to hide behind the sofa....

Icky girl, had to bath and shampoo her... now she is nice and clean. And still as naughty as ever. Last night she slept in my pants leg while I was asleep... so geli coz of her claws.... woke me up in the middle of the night to dig her out hahahah.

CFP, hahh, your mealworms last only 1-2 days?? How come? Everyone can keep them atleast a month. My current batch of mealworms is already 1 month plus.

One thing you have to jaga is to make sure that you do not give them wet food. They can turn rotten. Once kena air also they can die. You have to keep the mealworms dry, so oat is the best thing wink.gif

Sugre, male suggie pee is smelly, but with a good diet it can be less smelly. The smelly ones are normally together with his marking scent, thats why so smelly. There times when they just pee plain pee, it doesn't smell at all.

Also if you want to get a tent, you can try carrefour, last week also I saw them having some outdoor promo including tent. A small one can get less than 40, a big one less than 60.

Hun, I just noticed that the Litter Star memang take a while to act. But atleast right now, when I come back from work, I am not greeted by that waft of smelly smell anymore, it's like neutral smile.gif (Except the times when he just pee ofcourse)

Ohh, I might need you to help me bathe a suggie, can right??

Hahah... you really want to bath your suggies? Well.... got technique.... you must let someone else bath so they don't have you but hate the person who bath them hahahah.... but my Kiah used to it already since I bath her when she was younger...

I don't encourage you guys trying to bath SG on your own... a bit risky also if you dunno how to do it fast. If you guys want me to bath SG, must come loh to my place, I can help you guys do a bit of grooming heheheh....

Sugar gliders CANNOT be bathe simply. They cannot stand water.

Please do NOT do it if you don't know. (That's why I ask Hun notworthy.gif )

Bathing also applies for extreme smelly cases only wink.gif

For normal smelly cases, just use a baby wipe and give them a good wipe all over icon_rolleyes.gif

CFP, cut nail easy lar, do it when he's sleeping. You have to learn to do it, cuz for me, nail trimming needs to be done atleast once a week - two weeks.

Bathing a glider has to be done very fast and smoothly. Summore water cannot kena the ears and head.... and with untame gliders, you will get injured with lots of nasty scratches and bites.... I kena before sweat.gif

If the glider is not too smelly, can always rub out the smell by applying baby powder and gently massage it into the fur. Pureen or Johnson is good...

About the mealworms, what you can do is, when you first bring them back, put in an open tupperware(make sure tall enough so they can't climb out) and feed them some slices of fresh fruits or veggies like carrots, apple etc. Don't feed very wet and crumbly fruits. Slices ya, not cubes.

The mealworms should not pass one inch in depth in the container, so if you've got lotsa mealies, use a bigger container.

Once they've finished the fresh stuff, add an inch thick layer of wheatbran. You can get this in any organic store.

If they've not finished the fresh stuff after 24 hours, remove any leftovers.

I think wheatbran mixed with oatbran gives the best results as it's finer and easier for the mealies to eat as they go. But wheatbran alone is more budget friendly.

Once the substrate is almost completely consumed, sift the droppings out(you'll need a sifter) and repeat the procedure again starting with the fruits.

Keep doing this and you'll have fit, juicy and healthy mealies.

PS: Do not add fresh stuff when there is still a lot of wheatbran/oatbran substrate, the substrate will absorb the juices and rot quickly which is damn smelly. Always sift all the droppings after the substrate is almost gone, THEN add the fresh stuff.
