Congratz to new sg thread, version 3.

Again, I shall repeat my earlier statement here before it gets pushed to the depths of PW@Lowyat.

QUOTE
Oh yea, one more thing about the albino sgs.

Is anyone aware that when sugar gliders first appeared in the pet market, they were going for RM1 - 2k plus?

This is an estimation to how the price for sgs are today.
Since nobody could afford it at that time, supply exceeded demand and the price for sgs dropped considerably. When it dropped to a certain, more affordable price, SGs started to become popular so the demand for it rose.

But how are you going to get profit from an animal that can only breed twice a year? Easy, you just get lots of adult pairs and set up a sg factory.

This is how suppliers are able to meet the demand.

Now the price for sgs is set from 200 to 500 as the most expensive because if you sell too high, there will always be a market spoiler that will sell cheaper than you and everyone will end up buying from him instead of you. Ppl see it as the same product, just at a cheaper cost, without considering the difference between what you feed them, how you treat them etc.

This will probably happen to other colours of sgs if anyone decides to bring it in. A good example to refer to is hedgehogs.

This is why I encourage to buy from hobbyist breeders, not suppliers. Hey, the fact is, you pay for what you get.

Usually most of the fruit flavours are fine.

Aiyooo.... Today Miko went missing for quite sometime. We stripped the room and look for more than 2 hrs. Finally found her hanging just outside the window behind some clothes.

The woody smell is too strong eh?

You can always try another brand called Careline Wood Pellets or the silica based cat litter. I haven't tried either but they've gotten good comments from Hun.

LOL
This morning when I came into my room, Pickles was sitting on one of my ham's tank and made a collected jump, smacking onto my beardie's tank.

It was funny cuz he had been roaming round my room for so long, and he still doesn't know my beardie's tank is glass so he can't go through it.

Pickles is let out once every few days. He doesn't venture out of the room even though the windows are all open. He made a mess in my bathroom though. All my shampoo bottles and soap were scattered all over the floor.

My cage set up is very simple because she doesn't spend much time in it. She gets to roam around in the room most of the time so it's no point decorating a lot. I have a vine that runs across the cage horizontally, then the coconut is hanging from the top of the cage in mid air. The pouch is clipped at the middle left side. That's all.

Maybe they didn't put enough effort? Or maybe their gliders are not joeys? It's not that hard la if you put effort in it and get them at the right age. smile.gif

Btw, do remember to if considering getting a glider, do get a joey from a hobbyist breeder. They not only take good care of the gliders well, they will make sure that they're old enough to leave their mommy.

Gliders obtained from suppliers are usually freshly popped joeys that are barely 2 months old. They should only leave their moms at 4 months of age.

And do not rush to get a pair from just anyone. Don't buy adults just because they're cheaper, they're also not tame and will not bond to you. Joeys will build a bond with you when you spend time with it, adults rarely ever will.

Har? Only apple?

If you've been feeding them apple only, they probably died from malnutrition. They need a lot more variety as well as protein and calcium. Apple does not cover everything. You should have done your research before purchasing them. Now it's not too late to correct your mistake with your remaining glider.

QUOTE(khairizha @ Apr 16 2007, 12:25 PM)
FYI,
I gave my gliders mealworm, heinze cereal, fruits, applesauce...they just dun eat egg and chicken eventhough i tried to give them
i dun give them apple oni..but i stated there that i gave them apple only because im trying to find the reason why they are dead.....
i got my gliders since last year and they must be die earlier if i ONI GIVE APPLE .
and sumore cici for sure will eat the twins if she cannot get enough nutrients rite?..
my problem now is oni that there are no more gerber babyfood in the market.
i know about the mix and even try to buy it....

sang terap...thanks for the very good advise.

Mealworms are high in fat and chitin. Heinz cereal? Which flavor and how much do you give? Fruits? Please specify what types of fruits. If they don't like chicken or egg, then give high quality filler-free dog/cat food as a supplement and crickets. Crickets are higher in protein than mealworms and more nutritious.

i give them apple..
that's all...last week i gave them gerber applesauce...
should i bring them to the vet??..
and if i should bring it to the vet..please advise me where is the best place.

When Crazymouse asked what did you feed them, shouldn't you have said all this earlier instead of apple and gerber apple sauce only?

About the calcium supplements, the ones for human consumption contain phosphorus and some are made from powderized bones and/or dairy products. Gliders cannot tolerate too much lactose and the phosphorus from any source will conter-act with the calcium. Like sodium and potassium. Gliders can suffer from a certain condition and die from it if not given enough calcium.

Reptical/Reptivite/reptimineral can all be used, just be careful of the dosage.

So cute. tongue.gif

SGs don't usually take alfalfa. Not a good idea to feed. Why does the alfalfa in that bag look so yellow???

Actually, I made roasted crickets before. It actually smelled damn nice, like roasted nuts. My hams loved them, but I didn't keep them in a proper container, so they 'lau foong'. sweat.gif
