@hun : if both are bonded, i still hv to wait for aiko to get older right ..

Yah.... coz Shadow will be ok for now but when he matures, Shurie will be ok lah. You will need to wait for Aiko to mature before letting them live in the same cage.

Don't give so much boiled egg everynight. You must give protein from insect form. Are you giving mealworms and crickets? Don't say geli ah.... coz people who say these things are geli and scared to buy to feed is what I call not suitable to keep sugar gliders hahahah....

Apple and pear.... give more lah. Don't restrict the diet. If you only eat rice and potato everyday for 1 month, can be bored also rite? So a glider is the same. They need a variety in fruits and protein....

QUOTE(Pennywise @ Jun 12 2007, 03:17 PM)
So I guess the best is still going for a proper cage? I think I will just go with the yellow one I posted on Page 70. That'sRM450... big ouch to my wallet but I want to prepare the best for them.

Besides Pet safari, anywhere else I could go for cages?

Can we feed suggies jem / yoghurt / fruit juice / oats (Quaker?) that human eat? What are the ingredients that I should look out for to avoid?
*
Jam.... only the fruit jam that has no added preservatives and sugar can be used. This type of jam a bit pricey but good quality but you should not just give it like that in a bowl. As a finger treat, yah, you can use the jam by smearing a bit onto your finger. It is better to include it into the mix but this is to add sweetness and flavour only. You can feed yogurt as treats. Fruit juices, only a few brands like Marigold, Ceres, Just Juice and Yeos can be used. It must not contain artificial colouring or sugars or preservatives. 1 liter is around RM3.80 to RM4.80, depending on where you buy it. Again, as treats. Oats.... no, you cannot give quaker oats as it can cause impaction or bloat coz oats absorb water fast and too much is bad. Only rolled oats, the ones which are non-instant can be used or raw wheat germ.

Avoid anything with caffeine, onion, garlic, chocolate, acidic like oranges and grape fruit and grapes. No fresh bread, the best is toasted or stale bread as this won't get stuck in their mouths. No avocado too just to be safe. No corn so avoid corn based products. Dogfood and catfood are also not suitable for them.

In Hun in Cyberjaya? Can we meet up to have a look at your suggies?
*
No, I am in Setapak... I only study there but now on Sem break which will last till August.

Added on June 12, 2007, 8:43 pmJust now met CFP and his Chika..... showed Kiah Chika's pouch and Kiah was super excited.... then all of the sudden, she chattered!!!! Looks like everything is answered hahaha.... Yah, Slurp is the name I call my mix but then I still go around calling the mix just glider mix lah.

Anyway, I will be trying to make a high protein mix.... maybe name it Pro-Slurp hahahah..... see how lah, once I find the right stuff in the organic shop.

Anyway, I had a lonely day today at Pet Safari, jalan jalan from 1pm till 4pm... anyway, I didn't see the gliders coz all in the coconut. Also, I couldn't see the new glider food, guess they are hiding it LOL. But the cage that they put in is only suitable for sleeping coz so small, if they are awake, it's a cramped little thing. The bigger cage they put squirrels pulak and pitiful coz the squirrels looked so stressed. The RC hamsters were sick and 1 had wet tail. The Syrians looked ok.... but what caught my eye was the White faced robos... they had 4 but I think reserved.... ok ok, back to gliders.... really didn't see much just now.

Saw the cages.... well, the black RM450 is very very suitable. I love the space but then it can't fit into my room so that is why I train my gliders to free range hahahah. Anyway, I did advice Pennywise to get a normal 4ft high catcage, then wrap the plastic or PVC mesh to cover the large gaps.... what do you guys think? To me, it is cheaper since that sort of cage can get between RM250 to RM290.... also it has ladders and shelving.... only thing is making sure the whole cage is covered securely with the PVC mesh that can be bought at Hardware stores.

KP,
I didn't let Kiah do anything to the pouch coz afraid it will upset Chika... but Kiah was like out stretched from my hand, trying to grab the pouch, at the same time clicking. Chika tak layan so she hiss at him then she went under my shirt hahahah....

Added on June 13, 2007, 10:00 pmGathering can do mid July lah... would be fun. Wonder, who is willing to let us use his/her home as a place? Hahahah.... coz a home is better than a public place..... coz public place during weekends very crowded.

Oh, gliders get used to movement and lights very fast if you keep exposing them to it. My glider can sleep with the lights on, sleep in a movie or concert, can ride my scooter with me in her pouch without waking up and she likes it when I swing her pouch, makes her sleep better hahahh.

Its not like I will really get them but the RM450 black cage is really huge right? To furnish it and then later clean it once a week will be taxing for my health. I am growing oldd... Hahahaha... Some more to fit that kind of cage, really need to find some place to put, in the house but dont think in the room.

My furkid already occupied the living room. My grandma lives in the downstairs room near the kitchen and there is no place else for such a big cage in my current home. Things will be different when I move in 3 months time. However, I also dont intend to have such a big cage. I will let my gliders out to play very often. Just have to glider-proof my room.

I also thought about that whole tent-training thing. I wont get a tent but I will bond with my glider in the car for 30 - 60 min everyday. Air conditioned lightly, with radio and just sit in the non-moving car with no place to escape.

By the way, Hun, that RM450 black cage, can fit 4 gliders inside kah? Just asking for knowledge to judge the size, no intentions to keep that many.

A bit scary that many member's gliders had died. Kind of waste life and waste money. Heart broken some more. It will be too tragedic for me if it happens so I make sure I do well in taking care of them.
*
Yah... the cage is super nice for a pair.... for, it is still possible but a bit tight.... Yah, cleaning can be a task but it can be ok lah.... Wet cloth, a bucket of mild disinfectant is good enough. Wipe everything clean is ok.

Well, some gliders die coz people either bought on impulse with no knowledge or they feed a wrong diet or never bond with a single glider. Gliders can get lonely and depress easily when they have no one to bond with. So it is good to have a back up of glider info gheheheh.

Car ah... not so soon. Joeys can easily get lost and like snowcandy mentioned, go into the holes or whatever curious looking hiding spot. Some may get hurt.... this is why people recommend tent... safer.

Hahah... all excited over joeys.... gonna get the pair of joey males this Sunday, so excited. Jarrah and Shadow heheheh....

All also excited. Well, this is normal. When I first got Kiah, I wasn't very prepared... had a pouch and syringes, that was it. But Kiah was such a good joey.... and she make me worry like crazy... scared too cold so made an incubator with heatlamp for her.... then syringe feed milk and babyfood.... after that I tried making mix after mix till finally have the current recipe. Now Kiah is a happy little glider, also my official glider food taster hahaahh.

Gliders love to treat us as toilets. I get peed and poo on so many times but I like it when Kiah licks and nibble my ear... hahah....

I went to Pet Safari today and I saw another glider inside the cage. This one is super fat! She looks like she's overweight.
The sales assistant told me that this one's about 4-5 months old.
*
Really? Didn't see....

Anyway, Shadow and Jarrah are big. Hahaha,..... they are almost the same size as Shurie.

Did they do the 'attack' pose when you get near to them?
*
Yah.... crabby little things now. I guess normal. They aren't terrified of me lah coz my friend got handle them but they are just so unsure about me. LOL.... crab crab crab... but cute. They are eating mealworms now. Attack pose? Nah.... put 1 paw up only.

Ooh! That means Shadow eats mealworms?
That's great news! Now I'll just hope that he can teach Shurie a thing or two about mealies.
But first, will have to test that pinky idea of yours. tongue.gif
*
Hehehe... yah. Eats mealworms... at 1st Shadow smell smell.... then lick... then he gobbled it hahahah. So cute. Tonight and tomorrow I won't handle so much, let them settle 1st.... Monday will start to handle them abit heheheh.

Pinky pinky... it may sound gross and gory... but if can help with protein intake.

wah .. hun already got jarrah and shadow ar .. pics pics pics pics pics pics pics ..

aiyah . u two good owner one . sure crabby just for a while . i so sad .. my aiko still crabby like hell ..

pinky .. pinky ..pinky . does sg really need pinkies ? mealworm, cricket or boiled chicken enough right ? poor those pinkies ..
*
Hahaha... I know all sure eager to see pics. Tomorrow lah.

Just now KP came, I bath her Iggy and Luna. I think they smell nice now. Iggy bit me many times... but Luna was very good, I think coz she kept stoning hahahah.

Yah.... if your glider takes mealworms, crickets and chicken, is enough.... but Shurie can try taking pinkies if Snow is afraid of her not having enough protein.... well, some people don't encourage it while some breeders do. I think it is up to the individual. Kiah steals my pinkies coz I leave them in a container on my table for my snake.... so... hahaha.... it's one of her favourite treats.

QUOTE(snowcandy @ Jun 17 2007, 02:36 AM)
Haha. You don't know how much I miss hearing those crabbing sound. Shurie doesn't seem to crab anymore, and even when she does it, it's only for 1-2 seconds. sweat.gif

Nope, not all suggies need pinkies. But since Shurie's a special case who doesn't take mealworms (and I'm assuming she wouldn't care about crickets too), no choice ler.
*
I think Shadow can teach her to eat crickets. Just now KP saw the 2 joey boys... ahhah... she said they look like Shurie's size.... Goodness, 2 months OOP and already so nice and big. They don't bite coz she handled one by of course crabby crabby crabby boys.

QUOTE(NewbieBetta @ Jun 17 2007, 05:45 PM)
how do crabbing sound like?I have no idea?

and anyone pls intro me your seller..im looking forward to get SG as well..life is too boring..need to have some companion instead of human..
*
I thought you found a supplier? What happened? Coz last time you advertise in Garage sales about gliders for sale.

Does that mean that there's something wrong with Shurie? blink.gif
Even the one at PS looked a little bigger and fatter than Shurie.

Shadow is just 2 months old and already he's Shurie's size. sweat.gif Is it normal?
*
Hahah.... Females are always slightly smaller... but I'm thinking it could be the food and also the age. My friend really gives quality food as he mixes his own glider mix, give mealworms and fruits. Not just apples and dogfood like those LYN suppliers... so that is why his gliders are bigger. The ones sold by the suppliers are normally just 4 to 6 weeks OOP... so that is why they are tiny. Looks cute mah if small and it makes people buy them fast. Generally, humans are attracted to animals that have a baby look... that's why we love puppies and kittens.

Poor little Shurie. Guess she needs more protein. So far the only protein she get is from your mix that contains chicken. Sighs. Need to figure out why she dislikes mealies so much.
*
Have you tried giving the newly shed white mealworms?

Hahah... no lah... normally mealworms change skin. So after the shed their old skin, they look clean and white. Some joeys like them coz easier to chew.

Maybe one day you don't feed her the usual mix.... just let her go hungry a bit... once you see she is looking for food, replace the mix with a few mealworms.... maybe she needs some hunger to get started hahaahha.... but I think Shadow may teach her..

No wonder hahahah... yah, my friend called that supplier before and he gave many funny increased prices.

Anyway, you PMed me bout wanting to see my glider rite? Hahaha.... well, better I meet you somewhere, maybe at TARC or some place lah. As long not much crowd and easy to go to I can meet up with you.

QUOTE(snowcandy @ Jun 18 2007, 01:08 AM)
Alamak! Shurie loves my dog's kibbles. She was at my dog's bowl munching on them when I had my back turned. And this isn't the first time she stole some. Found her trying to go under the bed to retrieve some fallen kibbles one time too.

Added on June 18, 2007, 1:10 amThe only reputable seller here I know is Hun herself. tongue.gif
But then you'll have to wait until her suggie gives birth first. biggrin.gif
*
All gliders love dog kibble. Kiah loves it but then cannot lah.... the kibble is too hard unless you soak the kibble in water or apple juice. Kiah hates it when it is soaked.
