Got them from a shop called pet family

Added on August 1, 2007, 10:58 pm
1) Get a water bottle. No plates or bowls for water. It'll get dirty easily by their poo and pee. They will know where to find the water as they can smell it. Suggies need lots of water? As far as I know they get a lot of water from the fresh fruits they eat. It is very rare to catch your suggie drinking anyway.

2. The most effective way to bond --- Please read up upon this, it is far too long to explain and don't expect your suggie to bond with you in merely 2 days. Depending on your effort, it could take up to 2 weeks to 2 months. Your effort and patience is highly required. For now, put your smelly t-shirt in or on to of their cage. Read up more.

3) Suggies are NOCTURNAL. Daytime = sleep, nightime (especially when you're asleep) = exploring & eating. Yes, it is VERY normal.

Wokey, water bottle done. Good news is that 'Manja' is getting used to my hand in the cage already. She climbs and naps in my palm. 'Cinta' on the other hand is still very apprehensive bout me. sweat.gif I've read up a lot but I'd like a more personal experience that may help me.

I'm usually awake till really late...and seriously they just sleep and eat even at nite. How lar?

I'm thinking of adding another to the family, but will it be ok to have 3 in a cage?

Have 2 is enough lah.... 3 can be ok but if you have 2 females with 1 male..... later you will have a breeding problem.... if 2 males with 1 female, can end up fighting....

cintaku,

Yes, joeys tend to sleep more and it is okay if you don't catch them playing around much.

Do you know exactly how old are they?

And agree with Hun, having 2 is more than enough, why wanna add one more? There are so many things to consider if you intend to keep a colony. Most suitable would be all same sex colony which is introduced at a very young age.

2 female, 1 male will encourage breeding and this is seriously discouraged here as you should know that suggies population is booming out of hand, unless you neuter the male.

2 male, 1 female, territorial fights will occur once they mature, unless you neuter the males too.

Please think carefully before jumping into getting another one.

----------

chaf,

You cannot tell when suggie is pregnant because their pregnancy only last for 16 days.

It is also very-very rare for us to see the birth of the joey.

During birth, the joey will make a 5 minute journey to the mothers pouch and from there on will remain there for about 8-9 weeks until they come OOP (Out Of Pouch).

The time the joey is in the pouch is called In Pouch(IP).

During the first 2 weeks IP, sometimes you won't notice the bump in the pouch because it is so small and the mother is able to hide it behind the pouch.

However, there's are a few signs that you can look for like,

- The mother is cleaning the pouch more often.
- She seems to be eating a lot more than usual.
- She'll be more pouch protective.
- Her pouch area may look a bit more puffy than usual.

The pouch will grow bigger after 2-3 weeks, during this time, you will notice the bump in her pouch.

If there is 2 joeys, the pouch will look full on both sides, but if there is only 1 joey, the pouch will appear loopsided.

Sometimes, after 4-5 weeks if you noticed the bump is missing, then the joey might not have made it and has been eaten by the mother due to,

1) The joey is not well.

OR

2) The mother is too stressed out.

After 6-7 weeks IP, the bump will appear very big and you will be able to see some movements and even little feets or tails at times.

At 8-9 weeks, the joey is ready to OOP. This depends whether the joey is ready or not, sometimes it will OOP at 8 weeks, sometimes at 9 weeks.

After OOP, the joey needs to stay with both parents for another 8-9 weeks, then only it can be separated.

*IMPORTANT* During the whole time the joey is In Pouch, DO NOT attempt to open the pouch to see the joey. The joey might fall off from the mothers nipple and will not be able to re-attach back causing the joey to die.

Hope this helps.

Some suggies don't mate immediately. We can't force them too right...

Hiding in the coconut does not necessarily mean the female has a joey. They stay active as usual even with a joey IP.

You really have to look out for the sign I've mentioned to know about it. If nothing, then mebbe nothing yet lor.

-----

Okay, forgotten to share the list of fruits I've mentioned before...

Here it is...

So far, these are the fruits/veggie that I have given to my beloved suggies and some remarks from me, Iggy & Luna wink.gif

1) Apple - Me : OK lar. Iggy & Luna : So-so only...

2) Fragrance Pear - Me : A bit more expensive than normal pear, but juicy and they seem to like it so much. Iggy & Luna : Yum, yum, yum... (Busy eating)

3) Honeydew - Me : OK, but a lil' smelly when leave overnight. Iggy & Luna : We like the sweet ones! wub.gif

4) Rock Melon - Me : OK. Iggy & Luna : We like the sweet ones - again!

5) Kiwi - Me : So-so. Iggy & Luna : Taste funky! So-so...

6) Dragonfruit (white) - Me : Iggy likes it, but will become messy with the seeds all over doh.gif Iggy : Funky yummy!

7) Water Chestnut - Me : So-so. Iggy & Luna : Yeah, so-so, depends on our mood.

8) Mango - Me : OK. Iggy & Luna : Ooooo, mangooo, yummy!

9) Ciku - Me : OK lar, a lil smelly, also the poo smelly... Iggy & Luna : Sweet!

10) Jackfruit - Me : They ate only one bite. Iggy & Luna : *blink, blink* What is that??

11) Jambu Air Madu - Me : So-so, a lil smelly, also the poo smelly. Iggy & Luna : So-so.

12) Jambu Air - Me : They don't really like it. Iggy & Luna : Yeah, don't really like it...

13) Cherry - Me : So-so. Iggy & Luna : So-so.

14) Strawberry - Me : So-so. Iggy & Luna : So-so.

15) Rambutan - Me : They can finish it in 30 mins! But a bit smelly also. Iggy & Luna : Whee, yum, yum, yum... (busy eating)

16) Sengkuang - Me : So-so. Iggy & Luna : So-so.

17) Lai - Me : OK. Iggy & Luna : OK, not bad...

18) Papaya - Me : OK, but the poo will turn orange and *phew* smelly lor. Iggy & Luna : OK & we can make orange poop!

19) Watermelon - Me : OK, but if left overnight will become smelly and the poo will turn red. Iggy & Luna : OK & we can make red poop!

20) Carrots - Me : So-so. Iggy & Luna : So-so.

21) Sweet Pea - Me : OK. Iggy & Luna : Ohh, this veggie actually taste sweet wub.gif

22) Cherry Tomatoes - Me : So-so. Iggy & Luna : So-so.

Hmmmm hmm.gif I guess that's it so far...

As for protein, I give mealworms over crickets cuz only Luna eats the crickets, Iggy doesn't, plus crickets makes the poo smelly too sweat.gif

And treats, I give them dried mango or dried papaya, one small cube everyday icon_rolleyes.gif

Hahahah... Iggy and Luna got a long list of fruits....

Kiah's fruits:

Papaya: Ok lah
Carrot: nibble nibble... can makan, not so bad
Sawi: Yay! Shredding and nibbling time.... but won't eat much, more for play
Sun Melon: Yums
Honey Dew: Only sweet ones
Apple: Ok lah
Pear: Only juicy crunchy sweet ones
Rambutan: Huh?
Longan: Huh?
Tomato: Yuck....
Grape: Once a while
Watermelon: so watery but nice
Jambu Air: Only sweet ones
Guava: yucks....
Kiwi: Nooo.....
Red Dragon fruit: Weird, nibble nibble... ok lah.

But then if I blend the fruits together into a puree, Kiah will finish everything up. This is where I make smoothies for her. A nutritious high fiber snack with all her vitamins, minerals and calcium added hahahah.

Jarrah's fruits:

Apple: Yummy
Pear: Yummy
Honey Dew: Gimme
Sun Melon: Nibble Nibble
Tomato: strange but nice
Strawberry: yums
Jambu air: so so lah

Both love their crickets.... Jarrah likes mealworms too. Kiah is addicted to sun flower seeds... most gliders love sweet corn too but again, take caution, never feed fully, only a few corn nibblets as treats, same as sun flower seeds.

There were the 2 when I was there(600). I don't even know how late. Even at 2am they are still asleep. The smaller one 'Manja' just sleeps all day. moves about a bit and back to sleep. A very deep sleep mind you, I think she dreams a lot. I can see her kicking her feet in the air even when she sleeps in my hand. Cinta on the other hand sleeps and grooms a lot. He's very moody compared to Manja. Guess he's the dominant male type. shakehead.gif

I got a bird cage, didn't measure but huge enuff I guess. But it's smarter to just have these 2 for now.

Thanks for all the input.

Just a short survey, would anyone be interested if I were to make a custom 'Cricket Chowder'?

So for those who do not own cats and dogs or can't stand the mess the crickets make when they drag pieces of kibble everywhere and not finishing it, causing it to stale or grow mold in some unseen corner.

The cricket chow contains a few brands of high quality cat food, oat bran, chicken feed pellets, alfalfa pellets, fish pellets, wheatgerm, vitamin and calcium supplements. Not sure whether to add goat's milk as it will be more expensive if I do.

The protein is good for gut-loading and the mixture is powderized so the crickets cannot drag it anywhere and has to eat it from the bowl.

If the response is good then I will start a sale thread.

Free from perservatives and artificial stuff.

Always the best for our suggies, rodents and reptiles. smile.gif
