hello everyone ,

i would like to enquire about importing soft / plush toys from china , how many % tax for tat ya ?

and anyone had experienced , pls share

.
*
The duty rates are pretty high, about 20% if not mistaken.

But for the benefit of us, Malaysian, check the quality of the toys properly. smile.gif

There are all kind of electronic products, you need to be specific. Even for computer stuffs, some still have 10% sales tax, while some don't

Anybody here tried to import LCD TV from US? What is the tax to pay here?

52 inch LCD in US about US$1800. In Malaysia, about RM24,000.

Is it worth the savings vs risk?
*
LCD TV is 25% import duty + 10% sales tax on top of CIF value. Furthermore you need to have SIRIM permit.

hi guys, I wanted to know if I import directly from japan some toys with CIF value less than MYR500.00,will I be taxed and duty? Please help... rclxub.gif

If you read through this topic frequent, sometimes, depend on luck taxed not required. Be smart, ask your shipper mark the toys as gift.

*
What's the material of your football jersey? You can't find "jersey" you have to search by type of textile.

thanks for your advice. The LCD in US got 2 types. First without tuner at all. I presume this has no tax in Malaysia. Second type got "HDTV" tuner. Is this considered a tuner in Malaysia since we got no HDTV?

I also notice those with tuners got many types of tuners, ATSC, DVB, NTSC, PAL, SECAM, QAM. Which one is considered tuner in Malaysia?
*
Any tuner that can receive TV signal is consider tuner. No matter ATSC, DV... HDTV..... or whatever spec in the future.

Just like a car. The most vital part is the engine + chasis. No matter what brand/type/spec of engine / chasis.

If I were to carry an electric guitar in my car back, will I be subject to sales tax?

According to custom's website, there was no mention (of sales tax or duties) under header 9202 or 9207

http://tariff.customs.gov.my/

I'd need to transport the guitar back in its shipping packaging because there is a notice that it cannot be open unless stored in room condition for 24h.
And also is there a limit to how many guitars I can bring back at a time in such a packaging?

The items are for personal use only and definitely not for resale.
*
Entitled to 10% sales tax. Unless you can prove it is USED personal effect, else will be taxed.
It doesn't matter if it is for personal use or else.
Else... stay overnight, then open the packaging before coming back to Malaysia.

weird thing is it should be Into Foreign Customs the Out Foreign Customs right? last time i checked it was cleared the another day it's still in proces by custom. i check for GPS unit cannot find any in the tarif code
UPDATED:

smile.gif  Finally after went to custom office, i made some respect argument with the officer. Yes he said need to get AP but the AP is like RM 250? since it falls under telecommunication. Need to go sirim get the approval. after some long conversation with the officer, he just let me go and only "10% tax" . and the tax is off record. Without much choice left, i just paid him 10% tax to him to avoid those 'SIRIM' approval... icon_rolleyes.gif
*
What tariff code did he use on your GPS device?
I suspect you've been conned by the officer.

I've checked and find out you are quite lucky or the officer is just plain greedy tongue.gif
http://www.customs.gov.my/html/186%20Compendium.htm
GPS devices should have Sirim permit with 10% sales tax.

Ok, went to retrieved my items today at POS LAJU BAGAN DALAM, BUTTERWORTH.
There is where you collect your item that got detained by customs on the north region (I live at Sg. Petani, Kedah.)

The items retrieved are cosmetic product from Korea.
For cosmetic you need a notification letter from Ministry of Health to release them.

But for personal use no need the letter but the quantity of the product ordered cannot be more than 1 month usage.
How much is one month usage? Well that is to be determined by the pharmacy person whistling.gif

Mine was more than 1 month usage in quantity but since the pharmacy lady was so nice and in a good mood, she let me go with a warning that next time don't order to much at one time thumbup.gif

The good news was my order was around RM700 in total but no tax was charge.

So I guess, cosmetic in the quantity of 1 month usage for personal use = NO TAX icon_rolleyes.gif
*
Most cosmetic items memang no tax smile.gif
Go to http://tariff.customs.gov.my/ type "3304" in the search column.
But yes require import license from Health Ministry.

Last time i bought RAM frm ebay USA, no tax was imposed coz it's computer part. But i want to know, if i bought corsair dominator ram, which comes together with RAM fan/cooler, is there any possibility that i have to pay tax??

Thanks in advance..
*
It depends on your luck.
Fan is taxable.
If unlucky your shipment got hold up at custom due to taxation, most likely it is due to the fan. Hence you'll have to convince them this is actually RAM or RAM is the main function.

Got question isit tax applicable for purchase item or all import item (which I dont buy it)

A friend send me handphone as a gift but now holded @ Custom KLIA, what should I do now ?,

advise needed sad.gif
*
1st question: Correct answer is certain import items (i.e. computer parts non dutiable)
2nd question: Find out why it got held up 1st, due to SIRIM permit or duty.
Read up other pages in this thread, import of handphone has been discussed a lot of times.

watches no need AP i think. i think AP needed for telecommunication product oh yes and LED bulb also. mine kena AP last time order LED bulb  (so stupid i think this AP thingy  doh.gif  doh.gif )
*
SIRIM is usually applicable for products where:-
1. Requires electricity from the main socket. (Hence most appliances operating from dry cells do not require SIRIM)
2. Telecommunication Devices (radio/satelite)

So why SIRIM?

So that your appliances won't short circuit, burn your whole house / whole kampung.
So that your handphone won't interefere with other telecomunication devices.
So that you won't hear what the police are chatting on their walkie talkie.

etc. etc....

It is tedious... YES
It is costly.... Depending on the quantity you're importing. Because 1 permit can use for all item of the same model, and depend on how you apply it, could be used for several consignments (must be same model la).
So if Nokia imports 2000 units of N95, RM250 (sorry not very sure bout the cost) / 2000 = RM0.125 per handset.

*
I believe the RM300 included handling charges?
In your case, to calculate total duty and tax is not CIF x 30%.
It is CIF x 20% + ((CIF x 20%) + CIF) x 10%
Glad to hear that case closed.

Is buying skincare items from overseas allowed?

I remember seeing a thread posted by someone who was caught for buying "Rogaine." I know that Rogaine is a hair product but one of its component is classified as a drug by JKM so I guess that was why he was caught.

But for skincare products; how will I know whether customs will allow it?

Skincare products require permit from Pharmacy department.

Hi there, I might plan to get something from Hong Kong, so I'd like to ask bout the possibility of custom tax?

The item is a toy action figure (around 30cm in height), less than RM100. From what I've read here so far, toys/action figure will not be taxable?
notworthy.gif
*
How many qty you are planning to bring in?
Toys/action figure are subjected to 5% import duty & 10% sales tax.
How are you bringing it it?

There's an exemption clause:
(i) that the goods are imported by any person using air courier service through the following international airports - (a) kuala lumpur international airport, using sepang air cargo express; (b) bayan lepas (penang); © senai (johore bahru); (d) kota kinabalu; (e) kuching; and (f) subang;
(ii) that the goods imported are of a total value not exceeding rm500.00 per consignment CIF

With that clause you won't need to pay any duy & tax.
Forgotten to add: excluding cigarettes, tobacco and intoxicating liquor.
