Hi, just another question here, in the event where the item is being held by the customs, will they be notifying us, and how? (if we don't have any tracking info of the shipment). Would labeling the item as 'gift' has any difference in regards to tax?
*
If yours is by air courier, the courier company will inform you.
No, depend on your luck and value of the item.

I intend to buy a PMP mp4 player. Does it need AP?
I might order from HK, price is below 500.
Taxable? I will ask them ship to my office. Can I declare as sample unit?
*
Duty& tax incurred is 10% sales tax.
You can be exempted if your CIF value is less than RM500
No matter how you declare, it depends on your luck if they want to check or not.

QUOTE(viledante @ Jul 19 2008, 02:19 PM)
please helps me..

5% import duty, 10% sales tax.
There is no direct code for this, depends on your luck. Maybe custom officers think it is non dutiable.

QUOTE(onlinefever @ Jul 22 2008, 09:49 AM)
hi just curious, do you think custom track every single package you bought from oversea in their system?
i noticed if you buy for 1st - 2nd time, normally pass custom but when 3 times or more, they retain the stuff.
or just depends on luck?
if they ask you to pick up at lcct, do you think the name will blacklist in their system so in future they going to retain the your stuff again..
*
No. They check randomly.

I am aware that pc parts are non taxable(excluding casing and fans la)

however my shipment has been detained since early this week, im still awaiting their letter asking me to go down to collect it

http://trkcnfrm1.smi.usps.com/PTSInternetW...m=EB029992863US

Contents are as follows:
Radiators
waterblocks
6 feet of tubing
a tube of AS5 12g tube, which they may think its drugs or summthing
some rubber dampers for fans
some plastic springs
5x fan controllers

My question is, are the above items taxable (other then the tubing), if its not, then why was my shipment detained.

if it is taxable, approximately how much do i need to pay? as i cant find any of it in the kastam tax schedule, as well as how do i go down to collect it? or where do i go to? and procedures?

ps, i have yet to receive the letter sad.gif
*
1. When ppl say radiator... what do you think of? car spareparts lor
2. Rubber & spring dutiable
3. Tubing? PVC tube?
The thing is, base on your description above, I won't be surprised if even IT students also won't know they are for computers.

lol.... i mean it wasn't declared like that la, because i have yet to see the declaration form itself that is attached to the parcel....

What's the status now?
I think you would better go to the LCCT to handle it yourself. If you let USPS do it, they'll just follow whatever the Custom require.

- Theft

QUOTE(dro @ Sep 29 2008, 03:52 PM)
hi guys

im trying to order these stuffs from US
anyone know how much will they tax me?
i did my research...
to play safe i added + 10% to the items
but i doubt it'l be dat cheap

i know computer parts are tax free
but i heard that water cooling parts are considered industrial grade already
so they do tax u for that
is this true?

Swiftech Apogee GT Universal Waterblock - 1/2"                                            $47.99
Swiftech MCR-120 "Quiet Power" Series Radiator - Black                                $34.99
Swiftech MCB-120 "Radbox" Radiator/Fan Housing Rev. 2 - Black                    $17.99
Swiftech MCRES-MICRO Hi-Flo Reservoir                                                        $19.95
                                                                                    Total estimate =    $120.92
*
To be safe, add 20%
There is no standard for water cooling parts yet. Unless you are able to convince the custom officer, it is indeed for computer ONLY.

May I know whether clothes are dutiable or subjected to Import Tax or Sales Tax in Malaysian custom? I am really confused the custom. Sometimes, get taxed. Sometimes, nope.  rclxub.gif
*
- Yes dutiable
- Rate depend on material
- If you are bringing in 5 pcs of different design, you can put it as for own use only.
- There are many exemption around, some up to officers themselves to judge. So it depends.

Normally there's no export duty & taxes.
So no you're not responsible for the exporting duty & taxes, unless your shipper said so.

Hello everyone..

I've read 15/30 pages from this thread and got a lot of information here..

But i still needed a brief info before I import a laptop/desktop from overseas..

1) Is it true if we purchase for personal used (laptop/desktop) / if we buy only one there will no tax for the laptop?

2) And how if I buying another same type of item and shipped it another day / reach here 1 or 2 days after the first item delivered do the custom will hold my item?

3) I want to buy five laptops from overseas but can I considered them as personal used?/

4) Do acer/dell/apple laptop need AP from SIRIM?

5) Is it true if the packaging labled used there are no tax on it? and do custom will check if the packaging is to big such as (24 inch LCD TV big) although it labled used?

6) I've ask the seller regarding the shipping of the item and He said the item will be sent to your house so if the item stuck at the port do i need to go there or just waiting the letter from UPS/DHL/TNT and pay away the tax then they will continue the delivery, is it right?

Really needed help  icon_question.gif  icon_question.gif  icon_question.gif

Please reply  or PM me

Thanks for reading...

Laptops & computer products are not taxable. And do not require SIRIM. I guess it should have answered most of your questions.
Custom Malaysia has issued blanket ban on USED MONITOR. Please do not import, else you risk not able getting it out at all.

QUOTE(Saggitario @ Mar 14 2012, 11:31 PM)
hi guys, can you please help me understand how exactly Malaysian Customs charge us on importing tobacco (cigars). Last week I was charged RM395.94 for the cigars that I bought from overseas.

Here's the details:

I was charged under the 2402.10.000 (tariff code) which says:

Import Rate (RM200/KG) + Sales Tax 5% + Excise Duty 20% and 150 p.u. (per unit)

How do they calculate the unit? Mine was 1526.46.. I wonder where did they dig the figure from..

The total weight was 0.45 kg (which is 450g) - it was 45 sticks of cigars.

I bought the cigars for RM686.91 (it was 2 boxes of cigars and 2 sample packs of 5 cigars).

In the form, they said this:

Duti+Eksais+Cukai Jualan = Jumlah
RM90 + 254.38 +51.56 = RM395.94

by right, the excise duty is RM 137.39 (coz, 686.91 x 0.2 (which means 20%) = 137.39).. why is it 254.38??

and sales tax.. by right it should be just RM686.91 x 0.05 (which means 5%) = RM34.35, but they charge me RM51.56..

I am perplexed la.. BTW I attach the photo of the document here..

Can you guys please help?

Thanks a gee!
*
Any docs that shows 1526.46?

how about electronics/computer/hardware related products import? easy? how much tax custom charges? any suggested ways to import in cheaper shipping and tax ?
any good logistic companies reliable and cheap to use?

tq
*
Computer hardware/accessories are generally non dutiable/taxable. Except for a few such as fan & notebook bags.

There are many logistics company, at least 60-70% of them are quite reliable.
All charges are about the same, maybe different of 10-50 ringgit per shipment.
