I think the fireworks, festivals and juicy summer fruits are the only reason I'll be going during summer (can't find any other motivation!). Probably should experience summer at least once biggrin.gif

HAHAHAHAHAHA for me will be cute guys in yukata?

But i'm more worried about water pressure/ issue in accommodation for summer. I heard there are times when water pressure could be low or in worse case scenario, maybe no water...?

totally safe, prolly the only asian country that u can drink straight from the tap
but be minded, if your tap has hot and cold water
drink from the cold water side
if u drink from the hot side, you'll see the water abit blurry, not clear like the cold side

Miss and grateful for your incredibly helpful posts but happy to know can pm if necessary. I visited Kyoto and Osaka in 2015 and didn't have to post a single question back then because of the wealth of info already available on the Japan threads. All the answers were already there.

Going to Tokyo this coming Oct and been reading up the threads again.

Kudos and good job to new TS too!

Hi guys, after googling..I found out that best transportation mode is the bullet train. Therefore, need to get a JR pass. But then, I found out that a 7-day pass costs around 1K plus.Would it be better or worth if I rent a car & travel around instead?

I'm soon going around Tokyo,Kyoto & Osaka

R u traveling alone or with family? U can rent car for Kyoto n Osaka but it's not recommended for Tokyo due to the parking fee. Also if I'm not mistaken Jr pass is limited to certain bullet train only. Have u check domestic flight from Tokyo to Osaka? It's pretty cheap

Hi all, i'd like to tag along with this question too hehe

Am also planning to go 3 cities, Osaka > Kyoto > Tokyo > Back Osaka for flight.

I searched that a budget option will be to take the Willer Bus (night bus) which costs around JPY6,000.

Would it be wiser to just spend a 1 way ticket bullet train from Tokyo back to Osaka on the last day?

I was wondering whether I should get a 7 day pass but i'll only be visiting Osaka, Kyoto and Tokyo which doesn't seem to be worth to get the pass.

I'd advise against getting the JR pass. Suica/ICOCA is sufficient in my opinion to go round Tokyo/Kansai. My 10 days in Kyoto/Osaka cost about 15k yen ICOCA credit. I blame myself for taking the bus for 2-3km ride biggrin.gif. Not to mention getting on the wrong bus so many times.
Just proved more to my AirBnB landlady Malaysians are lazy on our feet.

Shinkansen costs 13900yen(Hikari reserved) from Tokyo to Kyoto.. Osaka tho a little bit more around 14500 yen perhaps. Not sure since I rode from Tokyo to Kyoto tongue.gif
Then again, if you are taking 2 way ticket, its the same price as a 7-day pass.

Personally I won't take night bus since most definitely I will not be able to sleep, or will be tired from journey.
But I do know people who can sleep soundly with a snap of a finger.

My second concern is, if I were to take other transportation modes other than the train would it be time consuming?

For example, bullet train takes 2hrs but bus takes 8-10hours to reach the same destination. If so, i rather get the JR pass. Hmmm

u can take night bus, can help u save money and u reach the destination in the morning so ur not really wasting ur time as u will be sleeping all night
