Guys, i've tried taking down a level 6 gym solo in a park near office. Tried out using 3 scenarios: - (1) Using my most powerful mons (cp higher than defender), (2) Using similar or slightly lower cp than the defender and (3) Using half the cp of the defender. All 3 does not significantly affect the quantum of "motivation" reduction. I wonder what the formula is to reduce motivation.

If the revamp was meant to retain players, then setting Gym Raids to Level 35 and above will totally discourage all except the hard core players. It is no mean feat to dedicate so much time and effort to grind millions and millions of XP.
I for one may finally throw in the towel.
Like what sniper said, still in beta. I would think the min limit is TL 5 (same like gym).
However, there is a possibility (not certainty) that they release the raids to different tainer levels based on the raid level. Still kinda sucks i know, but hang in there. Level up as much as you can and instead of using gyms / raids as motivation, use legendaries as motivation. (Note: I suspect they planned that legendaries will only be released to level 35 and above, why, i don't know).

I miss the smoke to show that someone is battling at the gym ...

IKR... totally agreed. At least with smoke we can decide - help (if same team), fight a lower level gym (a diff team) standby to slot (if same team takes over). Selfish or not different matter. LOL...
Overall, although the graphics look nice, the game is still buggy. These are some of the issues i noticed since morning.
1) Death loop still exists.
2) Dodging is laggy, but able to dodge.
3) Defender avatar is too huge (for some mon), can't visually see when they wanna release charge move .
4) HP reduction of defender not accurate; similar with the charge bar of our charged move.
5) Defending team can add health (berries) while we are attacking.
6) After defeating entire gym, screen black outs before existing gym.
7) Time vs reward totally not worth it. To solo a level 6 gym and place 1 mon in is extremely time consuming.
8) Territorial gyms still exist; making # 7 tougher.
9) Overall, loading screen slow, phone heats up faster, sightings / nearby often go blank.
Unfortunately, that is what Niantic's plan is all along - "Cooperative Gameplay" - i.e. you need to gangbang. Solo = sorry.
I'm not saying i totally hate the new system, but i don't think many lower level players will be enticed to join / rejoin the game (unless they can play in a group), which i have to say is kinda sad. I might go over to the park nearby my place to check out the gym scene. I have 9 gyms near my house, 2 are in the next door high rise (private, rely on drift) while the rest are accessible. Lets see if there are more ppl playing.
