The story in campaign is quite good.

The single player portion was really short though. I finished it in one day.

Graphics were good. Gameplay was different. Only qualms I had with this game is that the Soviet Units were too similar to the US units though.

First details on the WIC expansion? pack!......WIC: Soviet Assault!

user posted image
  • Brand new campaign with obligatory switching sides and, for the first time, playing on the Soviet side.
  • Among new units a chronoplane, some sort of a boat-ship mix based on an actual prototype model from the '80s (perhaps the Bartini VVA-14?).
  • Camera controls mapped onto both analog sticks (as in a first-person shooter) with the possibility to zoom or pause the game completely.
  • Reinforcements or new units can be called to the battlefield either by using the context menu, or - at this point still a bit tricky - voice communication using the headset, same as in Tom Clancy's EndWar.
  • The same multiplayer maps & mods as in the PC version, plus some new ones. With the maximum number of connected players lowered from 16 to 10 and lacking cross-platform play.
  • The actual conversion (such as fitting the controls onto a joypad) being handled by Swordfish Studios, with Massive Entertainment supplying only new content.
  • New rendered movies and cutscenes.

According to the Chech OX mag, Xbox360/PS3 release is in October but no date for PC.

They better have a PC equivalent. mad.gif

EDIT : Confirmed by massive entertainment there will be a PC version as well coming October. This is a standalone expansion pack! rclxms.gif

EDIT 2 : Massive has seemed to confirm that there will be NO new units mad.gif . What is said in the mag are just rumours.

Multiplayer is great only thing is lacking is not enough servers with low ping...there is only a couple we can play on a good day.

Article about Soviet Assault on the PC:
http://pc.ign.com/articles/865/865742p1.html

Key points :

QUOTE
The most important thing to note is Soviet Assault is not an expansion pack for the PC. According to Jansen, it will be more like a downloadable mission pack that will be offered at a lower price than a standard expansion pack.

QUOTE
Also, Jansen wanted to make clear that Soviet Assault will be completely unnecessary if you just want to play the game online. All multiplayer maps and features are made available for free to all World in Conflict customers, regardless of whether they buy Soviet Assault or not. Massive doesn't want to segregate its online player base into two. But if you really liked the single-player World in Conflict experience and you want more, then you should definitely buy Soviet Assault.

Update 8 for WIC coming soon:

QUOTE
The next update is coming soon! See changes below. Feel free to discuss the changes in this thread smile.gif

World in Conflict Update
Update #008

This eighth update for World in Conflict fixes balancing and bug issues and introduces some new features, like improved in-game voting, new ignore functions and improved network code stability. There are also several additions to Massgate, including new banners and new explanatory texts for missing content.

New features:
- Improved in-game vote system.
- Special Ability icons now show the number of selected units ready to fire.
- Extrapolation added to the network code. This should decrease lag caused by high packet loss. To disable extrapolation, append -noextrapolation (without the quotes) to the target path of the WIC shortcut.
- Expanded the ignore functionality on Massgate to cover clan challenges and chat rooms.
- Unit shields will now always be enlarged on mouseover regardless of selected unit.
- Unit movement arrows are now more visible on the Megamap.
- Added a hyperlink pop-up when the client is missing map or mod content.
- Remote admins can now switch a ranked server to unranked and back.
- Added explanatory text to the abuse report window.
- Added Massgate banner.

Units and balancing:
- Improved infantry forest cover logic. When ordered into forest cover, infantry units should now always find actual cover.
- Increased accuracy and tweaked fire rates for Armored Transports.
- Improved stealth slightly for Demolition Engineers.
- Improved power of Demolition Engineers Demolition Charge. It now destroys most bridges with one charge.
- Fixed discrepancies with US Medium Tank and US Light Tank view ranges compared to USSR and NATO.
- Fixed discrepancy with the duration of the USSR Medium Artillery special ability compared to US and NATO.

Bug fixes:
- Fixed a bug that caused disconnects with wireless network cards.
- Friendly fire warnings are not triggered by stray bullets anymore.
- Fixed a Reinforcement Point exploit that used unit drops and role changes to get additional Reinforcement Points.
- Fixed a bug that caused units dropped by Tactical Aid to be blinking and untargetable.
- Fixed buildings on several maps that could not be targeted by air units.
- Fixed fortifications on several maps that could become untargetable.
- Fixed a bug that caused Kick-vote to be active in clan matches.
- Fixed a bug that caused Kick-on-idle to stop working.
- Fixed a bug that required spectators to click ready for servers in match mode to start. Only players in teams count now.
- Fixed a bug that caused the TA cooldown to not reset when matches started in match mode. It should no longer be possible to deploy Tactical Nukes prematurely.
- Fixed a clan challenge bug that caused the wrong number of members to be shown as online on the clan you challenged.
- Fixed a crash related to map voting and custom maps.
- Fixed an issue with TA ground markers behaving incorrectly in single player.
- Max camera height settings no longer affect single player.

Update 8 is live! go go go!

EDIT : This seems like an infantry heavy patch. Looks like some fixes will make infantry more flexible and maybe make demo engineer useful. The network code is also tweaked so need to check what this does to our connection.

Hey all, just heard of this game. Should I buy it -- can you recommend a place? Amazon is selling it for $20.00. Anywhere in KL selling it for cheap? Or do you use Hamachi to play over the network, or Garena?

Or, should I just wait until september for the 'expansion' pack, or does that require the original as well?

Is anyone playing online anymore? I heard the connection isn't that good?

Try TSB or pcgame.com...The expansion is not a full blown expansion...most probably a downloadable expansion...A couple of people still play online altough a lot of other has moved on...Ping isnt very good...just one or two good ping server...but it is playable even with slightly higher ping...
