Ahh... forgot to tell that I was talking about porcelain tile (wall tile), not the ceramic floor tile like ozak explained.

Well, you don't use hammering action with tile bits. The porcelain tile bit is normally the spade shape one. The ceramic one is using diamond one, but then no hammering action just normal drill.  smile.gif
*
Drilling wall tiles
My experience using CYL-9 spade bit lasts long, almost 15 holes before it botaked. Ok la for RM16
Then tot can save money using the normal CYL-3 multipurpose (got wall tile icon) drill few holes then botaked. Only fit to drill wood afterwards.

Even though I just use it to drill thru the tile, and after I hit the concrete I switched to SDS masonry bits to rock and roll w rotary hammer

I am planning to buy Bosch GBH 2-24 DRE rotary hammer. Main use will be drilling small holes on concrete wall. However, there are times where I will need to drill through the small gaps between tiles, or even drilling tiny holes on a tile in kitchen and bathroom. Is that Bosch suitable for these jobs?

icon_question.gif
*
Concrete wall no problem up to 24mm hole.
You will need SDS plus bits for masonry for the rotary hammer function, plug and play.
Normal staright shank bits will need a chuck adapter.

Gaps between tiles normal masonry bit will do. I believe its best to drill on rotary only until you have passed the tile thickness, once you hit the concrete below you can use rotary hammer mode.
Drilling on tiles you need the tile bit aka CYL-9, use on rotary only (WITHOUT hammer) mode at slow speed. These bits are straight shank, need to use a chuck adapter.

Chuck adapter.. u can get gooding ones from Hitachi here https://www.lazada.com.my/products/hitachi-...ivtTdj&search=1
comes with a whole bunch of SDS bits and one chisel. Sounds like a good deal.

or the chuck adapter only - super cheap https://www.lazada.com.my/products/hitachi-...l__null__null__

i looking for an cordless drill for house use, it must able to drill wall.

what is the best option i can go for? what is the price likely will be
*
Concrete wall or brick wall (clay/sand brick)?
Brick wall any 12V bosch or makita cordless will do. 12V tools below 400 drill+battery+charger

Concrete wall need to reevaluate options as 18V drill/18V rotary hammer costs more.

Yup this will work fine. You might need to buy drill bits for it. SDS plus bits will be plug and play.

A lot of good-brand bits going cheap online nowadays from Bosch/Hitachi/Makita as well.

Sometimes its the matter of cost, but the question is efficiency.

But ada hal any china tool also makes no difference la, but sometimes, it matters. Just more time.

Contractors different story. Sometime they need to do renovation on new house where there is no electricity yet. Last time it was a problem. Need to bring portable generator  smile.gif
*
For DB box (i.e. electricity turned off) replacement I will need to drill 4 holes to install the new DB box.
However the wall is (I suspect) 25-30 years old concrete wall which I don't think a cheap cordless impact driver on 12V will make any impact even for 5.5mm hole size laugh.gif
Cost of 18V rotary hammer is too high for a whole set sweat.gif

I think best to hook up my corded rotary hammer (2-24) from next door neighbour.

Flexibility and no need to worry working hot with live wire, can off the whole DB box.

Got. The 7/8" SDS (3 mode) 2605-22 would be the rough equivalent to the GBH 180-LI.

You know your shit. What I learn from bosch, the better range are almost always good, the more common range okay la for the price.

And network in Malaysia very good, semua shop jual bosch, semua tempat ada service centre.
Makita are never that good in value, apa lagi hilti milwaukee. Durability, my bosch semua tahan ler, I still have my father's 20 years old jigsaw. But, what is there to swap? Makita has the largest range of cordless if that is what you mean, like coffee maker
*
But the problem is that I think Makita got too many overlapping product that its too hard to buy (hard to compare).. imagine Myvi launch with 1.0 1.1 1.2 1.3 1.4 1.45 1.5 1.6 1.8L engine especially cordless driver/rotary tool. And their website not that user friendly to compare all in one category. So that can map out a price/performance value between the price of product (eg on shopee) vs the features (BL non-BL, 2 mode 3 mode) etc.
Mau beli cordless rotary, keep on seeing that electric jacket search results laugh.gif

One thing, even abrasives (sandpaper), beli bosch punya mahal but can use until botak.
Buy cheap ones, all the sand came off within 10 passes of sanding down my wooden countertop cry.gif

From 4mm up.

https://www.lazada.com.my/products/maju-s3-...null__null__0__

From 5mm up

Theres also a set of hitachi sds bits + chisel + chuck adaptor for 18 bucks. Funny how the whole set of stuff is cheaper than standalone bit set.

From 5.5mm up, I find the 5.5mm very useful for wood plugs.

Saw another model Bosch GSB 180Li at RM361.50 so is it worth to buy vs Stanley SCH121S2 at rm275 ?
*
I saw a GSB 180 LI (w batt and charger) at RM330 Shopee link
The bare tool is RM190 only but you will need to source a charger + 18V battery (IMO the set is cheaper to start out with) Shopee link bare tool (SOLO)

GSB =/= GSR
Easy way to remember, GSB can Bang wall (got impact)
GSR can Reverse, no impact

The 18V batteries are interchangeable within all the bosch 18V tools. Of course some tools will recommend a bigger battery for heavy duty usage but it'll still work.
Cordless tools, the brand (i.e. the battery system) is the one you are investing in.
The tools are cheap, but the bigger batteries cost more. The cordless rotary hammer GBH 180-Li cost me only RM399.15 (excluding battery and charger)

QUOTE(Zot @ Mar 29 2020, 03:49 PM)
I meant to say was that for 12V tool, it does matter what brand that much (in my opinion). For higher power tool, then you might want to stick to your favorite brand so that you can share the battery usage.
*
True that. I invested in bosch 18V system because my place has hard concrete walls.
So far I have the GBH-180LI rotary hammer and ordered a GSB-180 screwdriver (coming soon for screwing the kitchen cabinet).

12V tool the advantage is lighter tool

to be honest with you, i kinda regret investing in BOSCH 18V system... because they have very very limited range of tools

unlike MILWAUKEE or MAKITA

soo wide the range of tools provided

makita is the most versatile, with coffee maker, powered wheel barrow, portable fan, grass cutter... etc etc
*
Makita tools cheap or comparable with bosch for the cordless drill driver..
But the battery and charger macam more expensive
For first time cordless tool investor it didn't make economic sense to me, so I kinda got stuck with bosch 18V

Although I saw that makita got coffee maker and powerbank that runs off the battery (MAKITA ADP05 BATTERY ADAPTER FOR USB 18V (C/W 2PORT) PHONE CHARGER POWERBANK)
Unfortunately didnt see any cheap bosch battery to makita tool adapter. The other way got (makita battery to run bosch tool) but kinda hampered a conversion to use the makita powerbank lol

I think it also depends on how many cordless tools you'd need as well. Me I think I dont need much more than the cordless rotary hammer and impact drill driver;
maybe add the LED light or impact wrench (nice to have but pricey over long iron pipe to open tyre nuts for self rotation every half year).. maybe useful for jacking up the vehicle using the scissor jack but then again, nice to have rclxm9.gif

Hi experts. I have a GSR120-Li. Lovely tool to assemble IKEA purchases and online purchase self assembly furnitures.

I need to do some DIY in the house, drilling walls and concretes. Mainly between tiles in bathroom to hang racks up, and also concrete wall to install blinds. As I want to save money, a corded tool is fine (I’ve got a heavy duty 5M extension cord).

Recommendations and bits to get?
Also my GSR120-Li only came with Philips and flat head drivers. Any affordable yet durable kit out there?
*
It depends on the usage rate:
Less than 12 holes per year you can buy a Bossman rotary hammer for RM165 (pakai buang price lah) tongue.gif
Some usage - RM360 Hikoki rotary hammer / RM319 Stanley rotary hammer
Heavier usage RM438 Bosch 2-24 / RM515 Makita HR2470

If you are just drilling wall plugs smaller than the pinky finger any proper rotary hammer will work great in concrete.

Tile bit you can use your existing GSR120 as the key is to be SLOW (<500rpm) for tiles (NO HAMMER) to avoid cracking. You're looking at CYL-9 tile bits ~RM16 each for 5.5/6mm size

Concrete wall should use SDS+ bit on rotary hammer. Basically for common wall plug size 5.5mm x 50mm long bit will be good for wall plugs. If used with 2" wall plug and 1.75" screw then just drill in all the way no need to mark.

If wanna drill pipe (20mm/ 25mm) holes then consider stanley bits. Got a 20mm hole x 460mm long one for 30+ only. Can check em out Long stanley drill bits rclxm9.gif

With 1.5k budget thats a lot.  sweat.gif
You can buy one rotary hammer for drilling holes in brick/concrete and one drill driver for screwing and drilling holes on wood/metal.
Got enough money to use cordless version too haha.

example combo set.  flex.gif
https://www.lazada.com.my/products/bosch-18...CyABEgKJd_D_BwE

You will need cordless version if you plan to do things like on the roof, in the ceiling or outside the house where pulling extension cable is a hassle.
*
Yeah for bosch 18V can get the cordless rotary hammer GBH180Li + drill driver GSB180Li + 1x 4AH procore battery + fast charger
Basically just over 1k cost, 800 for the rotary hammer + batt + charger, 220 for the GSB180 solo (tool only)

Ah yes sorry. I'm not really familiar with the material. Only heard my neighbour say concrete.  sweat.gif  That's what I'm hoping the sifus in here can advise some model for me. Max budget RM 1.5k. Can hammer drill used for screwing? I have so little knowledge about drill
*
Rotary hammer/hammer drill can use but primarily it was designed as a drill, I find it abit too powerful due to no torque control if using it to screw - often times it strips the screw heads.
Drill driver GSR180/GSB180 or equivalent will suit ur screw installations nicely.

GSR and GSB
R=reversible no impact
B=got Bang function (aka impact drill) but its at best used for brick masonry only. Won't be a good fit for concrete.

Concrete walls best to use a rotary hammer.

#2 Cordless drill driver (GSR120LI) can be useful for screwing and unscrewing whereas normal high speed drill don't have torque control (it will still work, but abit harder to control and you risk stripping screw head if its a long and tight fitting screw). Do note this tool is not extremely powerful for drilling (max about 8mm or so wood plug in brick work).

#1 and #3 here are basic power drills first and foremost, not really suited for screwdriving.

All these (#1-3) will NOT be useful for concrete drilling for more than 1-2 holes of wood plug size - you will spend ten minutes per hole.

QUOTE(thermox686 @ Jun 17 2020, 02:04 PM)
Hi all,
If precast slab wall, is it require rotary drill to drill the wall? Or impact, hammer drill is enough?
Can recommend suitable drill for personal use?
Thanks
*
Concrete slab aka RC wall aka reinforced concrete, you will be best suited with a SDS+ rotary hammer. Drills in seconds.
You can still survive with a normal "impact drill" for 1-2 holes max (wood plug size) and luck on your side (don't hit a stone or hard patch). This normal "impact drill" will take minutes to drill one hole in RC wall.

Corded one.. can get either makita HR2470 (around 4xx) / bosch 2-24 (around 4xx) / stanley rotary hammer (around 260). Want cheaper can consider DCA/bossman tools, it should work for home use lah laugh.gif

Cordless one.. you will need to invest in big battery (~260 for 4AH) and fast charger (~105), but the tool itself is not expensive (around 350-ish) based on my purchase of GBH180Li solo unit.

The price premium of cordless one is the convenience = no need to worry about finding power socket/extension; corded ones listed above are usually more powerful than cordless equivalent of the same price range.

Hi guys, i am looking for a compact impact drill to drill small thing like speaker hanger etc for my home. I have a big old school corded for heavy drilling but just need 1 for hassle free small hole drilling for brick/concrete wall. I saw there are brush va brushless motor. Brushless motor kinda much more exp than brush, but i not sure if occasional use only do i need brushless motor?

And i wanna ask a noob question, if i wan to fix a plate with 8mm hole to the wall, what drill hole size should i be looking for?
*
If the plate is 8mm hole, I assume you will be using some sort of sleeve anchor, max u can go will be 5/16″ bolt, used in combination with a 5/16″ thread sleeve anchor.
Bring the plate to the hardware shop to confirm the bolt thread fits the plate you are mounting.

Hole in wall is based on the external size of the sleeve anchor so you will probably end up with a M10/10mm hole IIRC.

Brick wall can use normal impact drill. Concrete wall is >9000 times harder than bricks so a rotary hammer is recommended - especially if you're talking about using a M10/10mm sized sleeve anchor

I would normally use grinder to cut a groove. Than rotary hammer to have a clean hole cut.

So no need to cement repair the crack edge. Which is very ugly after repair. (Not my expect)
*
Grinder dust goes everywhere. Had to grind off wall like /_\ so my cabinet drawer can open without scraping the wall, that created a desert storm.

For this hole i would draw the outline of the hole with marker pen
Then pick the least used drill bit to be condemned for this.. maybe 8 or 10 mm (hardly used)
and drill a series of holes near to each other within the hole lines like ..........
So its easy to chip off using the rotary hammer and makes a very clean line rclxm9.gif
