When browsing through internet, i came across with this forum. Do have a look at it.
Attached a link to look whats inside the Archer C1200 .

Apparently, the c1200 we always complained does comes with heat-sink. Not bad.

If you want another ASUS router, I would recommend the ASUS RT-AC1300UHP.

See the review here:

https://www.blacktubi.com/review/asus-rt-ac1300uhp/

It is a bit pricey through, from RM500 - RM600.

If you want something cheaper, try the Asus-ART1200G+.

You can still have 5GHz for N, but not AC. See here:

http://homenetworkadmin.com/wireless-b-vs-...-ac-difference/

Thanks for the suggestions!! But if I don’t mind with the using just 2.4ghz band. My nT12hp is good enough for 100mbps Unifi right?

I saw on blackutibi the tp link router they provide is quite price. Then why the performance suck. The connection is intermittent with WiFi. Should I just flash their router? I don’t use hype tv anyways. Will it help?

I don’t know if it will be good enough for 100Mbps as it depends on interference and congestion in your area. It might not though, so keep that in mind. The router they provide is not that pricey, to be honest, and it is one of their mid range models. There are more expensive routers out there. You can flash the router however you want, but you are on your own regarding that.

If you received archer c1200 from tm, i must say, please buy a new router. If your isp package below than 100Mbps, and you wish to save your budget, then you can purchase a single band router (if you use Ethernet cable e.g. pc or laptop more than wireless - e.g. smartphone and laptop). If your isp package more than 100Mbps, then you have to spend more on buying a dual band router. The cheapest dual band router you can get is from Dlink (DIR850) followed by Archer c1200, C7v4. The choices on you my friend. If me, I would like to advise if you wish to buy a premium brand like asus (dual band), i strongly recommend you to buy it via second hand. Even me using the used 3 years old asus n56u.

*reason, single band router comes with fast ethernet port (except the famous tplink TL-WR1043ND model that comes with gigabit ethernet port) while a dual band router comes with gigabit port.

My friend, I believe you router might not support speed above 100Mbps since it comes with FAST ethernet port. If you're using 100Mbps connection, if you use the router, the max speed you might get is around 80 - 94 Mbps and not 101 - 104 Mbps.

But then again i dont have much choice since I use it more downstairs and 5ghz cant reach downstairs. In your opinion the ac1200 is better or the dlink provided by TM?

I would say both are not that good. But, if I have to choose, I would choose the DLink as the AC1200 has had many complaints about stability.

I agree. Trust me, if you're a heavy user, e.g. torrenting, your cpu load usually shoots up to 100%. I wonder do tplink did a proper testing before releasing the firmware. I believe the hardware used in c1200 is good. But how come such crappy firmware passed the testing?

Another thing I found out about the TM tplink c1200, DNS server is locked to TM DNS server.( Even if you have changed to Google DNS or others.)
Haven flash it yet tho..

Using back my old dlink orange router.

not only during torrenting, downloads using IDM caused it to hang and dropping connection. vmad.gif

It is definitely the firmware that is causing the problems as you say bro, and more specifically the firmware for V1 of the C1200. There is now v3 of the C1200 and I think TP Link has gave up on improving the firmware of the V1.

Of course, they would want compete control of the flow of information. That’s why it is always good just to get your own router if possible.

Firmware issues that push the CPU to its limit which is quite disappointing for TP Link.

Yes. Only sometime the situation occurs where when I am downloading a 4k movie using idm, the downloading process takes time (usually freeze at some point) before resumes back.

Yes bro. Atleast, that cylinder shaped router better although it has a serious vulnerability issues. This is the downside of using tplink. Atleast, asus way way better - older models still receiving firmware upgrades.

To be fair, the vulnerabilities are all fixed in the DLink router at least, and it is not that bad to use.

I am an ex user of archer c7v2 (sold it already due to weak wireless signal for both bands) and c1200 (ditched it because whenever I download using idm, it delays 1 minute before download any files including images) and replaced with second hand asus rt-n56u router. That solves the problem. No need to wait for a minute to download. Even aus firmware cannot save c1200.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pros of C7

- no reboot issues
- not getting too hot
- able to handle 20 devices at a time

Cons of C7
- lame ui
- weak wireless signal especially 5ghz band
- buggy firmware

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pros of C1200
- good wireless signal (even better than c7 to be precise)

Cons of C1200- firmware issues (too many bugs)
- random reboot (although aus firmware does improve the boot up time)
- overheat issue

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

But, in future,  I might avoid lower end tplink models.

Now i am a happy user of asus n56u.  biggrin.gif

The best part is, asus n56u still receives firmware upgrade although it has been 6 years the router was launched into the market.

did u try and flash c1200? hows your wifi range for n56u? N56u supports 100mbps?

n56u has gigabit lan and a wan port. Definitely it supports 100Mbps bro.

I flashed my c1200 with aus firmware. Tbh, it just able to solve the boot up time issue. it takes 4 minutes rather than 5 minutes. The good side is, the wireless signal were superb.

after one week I am done with C1200 (V1 and not V3), since it connects and disconnects every 5 minutes or so at night. You can even notice the connection dropping while surfing the internet alone. I was really surprised when I found out the price tag for this router

I have tried using Aus firmware but it ended up crippling the router since I cannot make ipv6 work (plus it doesn't really help with the disconnections). Done every little tweak I could but it doesn't help at all, it is only smooth when I was the only user which is laughable since I could have just bought a narrowband if that was all I needed

Gonna try to buy an Asus AC1200G+, at this point ANY dual-band router would work better for me
