I bought this one as i find local screen protector cant fit the entire screen

http://cgi.ebay.com/Capdase-Privacy-screen...1QQcmdZViewItem

this one works as a privacy protector

good
only u can see the screen
thicker usually means safer for the screen
fit the screen to the mm means no more exposed screen to the air

bad
makes the screen slightly darker about 10% darker
u have to press deeper for stylus since the screen is thicker
if play too much games, i notice u can use the stylus scratch the protector abit (notice it when the screen light not lit.)

overall i think its ok, but if martin field has one, i think should be better, what I learn is although martin field is CLEAREST, it also the easiest to damage if u peel it to clean or something, so dont peel off your MF if possiblem.

wow, my first review on p1i stuff, not bad whistling.gif

Added on October 18, 2007, 1:27 pmbtw, the B & G settings, not many router has that settings, therefore its not nessary to change that settings as G is backward compatible as mentioned.

If u have problem connecting, its usually u are too far from router or settings on your P1i

as i have no problems connecting my home router

if need help, maybe we can have a mini gathering at a place with WIFI, so we can hands on test the wifi on the spot
*
i bought a Martin Field P1i Screen protector from daijoubu previously. RM35 comes with a camera lens protector as well. (not that the camera lens protector is BADLY cut)
haven't tried it as i put a chapalang protector from SE roadshow in mid valley and i haven't been able to scratch the chapalang protector yet tongue.gif

QUOTE(spoonkin @ Oct 19 2007, 09:52 AM)
nope it doesnt support flash or animated background

anyway, if u found any related to it, let me know

there is another issue
alot of java games or sis games that dont support p1i entirely, would normally require 2,4,6,8 to move and 5 to do action
but however p1i doesnt have those key since each key somehow split into 2 alphabets keys

so when u play those games, guess how to move your character
u have to use the scroll to move up and down
and use asterix and hash key to move left and right
then action would be scroll button

try playing game, then u know how messed up it is, hahaha  rclxub.gif  rclxub.gif  rclxub.gif
*
that can be done by double tapping the ALT button. in that case the java system will treat ur 0-9 button as ordinary phone's 0-9

QUOTE(jefwee @ Oct 19 2007, 11:18 AM)
do all you p1 users have any gathering or something?

count me in if there's any.
TS create a list of P1i owner plz.

that can be done in control panel>other>setup wizard

there is a divx movie player from divx, but i rather play all my movies with SMART MOVIE PLAYER, it comes with a movie converter to 320 x 240, convert first for better view, if u use original movie size, the playing will be less than 30fps

and today is sunday, my alarm clock ring me again, suspect that "workdays" is sunday - friday

what u think guys?
*
just switch to use handy clock, solve all the problems.
IMHO, the built in alarm is a piece of junk. worse than non-smartphone.

i have not put on the martin field as the previously put screen protector is still nicely in place. i only put on the martin field camera lens protector for p1i. and hell yeah, a gathering would be nice.

sorry for ignoring all the MSN for the past two weeks or so as i'm having final exam.
now back to hometown i'm stuck here without proper internet connection.

hi there,

thx spoonkin! i'm new to this phone and i totally new to use this type of phone! haha...the golf game is nice! i just wonder any other nice program can be use on this phone? i got 1 question.  i very confuse with .sis software coz some of them can install and some jus cant. java software totally no problem.
this phone just can install jad and sis? smortphone's software can install or not. thx for helping me
*
you gotta make sure the software is designed for Symbian UIQ3. All symbian OS uses sis as their installation packaging but different platform of symbian is not compatible with each other. P1i is using Symbian 9.1 UIQ3. Lookout for the compatibility

Bluetooth: CXC 162143 R1D
Organizer: CXC 162108 R6F41
CDA: 162022/1 R6F38

Heard that improvement in speed !! Anyone any feedback ?
*
woot...as usual GW1 users get the latest firmware first.
let me go digg some info first.

regarding the GPS, is there any software that can work wif 3rd party bluetooth GPS receiver with good malaysia maps? i've searched up and down but couldn't find it. and Garmin is not my option as i already own one taiwan mari bluetooth GPS.

btw, the SE GPS receiver looks nice

addon : the new firmware seems fixed lots of things...most importantly, the speed !

file received in bluetooth will have the same sound as sms
So strange mind don't have alert sound at all

i think u need a software to do the keypad lock password
Any recommendation? Nowsaday even a simple phone would have such function, so disappointed.

i am still thinking how to delete it, as i find it annoying only able to replace it, let us know if you found it
Agree, so annoying.

i think if u wanna sync the other way, there is a advance option in the sync contact option via the pc suite program
I tried, i pick the windows contact, but no use. Btw, I checked in the website, it is mentioned compatible to outlook, didn't say windows contact, maybe that's why?

I also trying to delete the call logs history, but don't find the way. Mind to tell if u know? Thanks
*
1) yes, my bluetooth file transfer does not have any audio notification and i don find any setting for that as well

2) no idea

3) no idea

4) try to import the contact into outlook first, then from sync manager set the conflict management to update details inside phone first. see if this works

5) go to calls>more>extended mode then go to calls>more>edit>delete entry

hi there,
i not so understand the gps stuff.
download the garmin 10x and install it phone then can use oledi?
or still need get a Bluetooth GPS receiver then the program only works?
it sound very complicated to me ah~ i though just install software into p1i then GPS works oledi but the fact wasn't that.

Am i right?

mind to tell me what i need to have in order to run GPS on  my phone?

THX A LOT BROTHER COZ I REALLY NEWBIE!!!!!  icon_question.gif  icon_question.gif  icon_question.gif  icon_question.gif  icon_question.gif  icon_question.gif  icon_question.gif  icon_question.gif

my phone also won't rang when receive the bluetooth msg...hmmm hmm.gif
*
first u need to understand how the GPS thingy works over the phone. it consist of 3 components :
i) GPS Antenna
ii) GPS Software
iii) Maps

the GPS antenna works by fetching signals from satellites and send them using bluetooth to the phone. The GPS Software then calculate a triangle positioning (something like the pythagoras theorem u learned in high school but more advance) of your current location and convert them into values and match them to the location in the maps and lastly displaying it.

for the case of P1i, i found quite a number of UIQ GPS software that support third party Bluetooth GPS Antenna but none of them having malaysia's maps and those GPS Software that having malaysia maps are usually made for WM device. The only comprehensive package that has UIQ GPS software and Malaysia map is Garmin but Garmin software are only proprietary for Garmin GPS receiver. That's y P1i is currently stuck with Garmin GPS system and IMHO, Garmin system is expensive.

but hold on, the SE GPS receiver handsfree HGE-100 is coming. Let's see if it supports Malaysia maps.

@Spoonkin :
i see volume, message, email and voicemail setting but there's no setting for incoming object nor any "add there" you mentioned. could it because of different organizer version?

no idea about that yet. i try to search in the SE application shop to see if there's any that is up to the locking job you requested but no luck.

here's a link for all P1i users
http://uiq3.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Phones/P1i

scroll down and there's a section called Bugs report/features request.read from esato that claims SE actually refer to this wiki to listen to user's feedback and implement on the next firmware. dunno how true is that

Anybody knows how to use the front camera to snap picture? Couldnt seems to find it. Found nothing in the manual regarding this matter as well.

Thanks

SONY Ericsson does not support front camera picture taking all along.
but since this is a symbian operated phone, there might be a third party software out there that could do this

QUOTE(lovehewit @ Nov 2 2007, 03:07 PM)
I am quite familiar with the phone by now, I really love this phone to death. I used not many phones, but this is the best compared to my previous Nokia N Series and some of my samsungs. I think I will stick to it for a long long time. I also discovered, it can do almost everything, it is just hidden somewhere which is not too hard to discover. Hence, I think is a waste of time & money to download 3rd party softwares like the swiss manager, or the password manager etc, which the phone itself can actually do it. However, at this moment, things I wish this baby got is:-

1) Alert/sound when file finish transferred via bluetooth  mad.gif (but as per told, this is a common feature that  pda phone lacks of too)
2) Longer battery life. Right now, it last around 3 days for me, eg 5-7 calls a day, 10 min wireless, occasionally bluetooth transmission, 30 min of exploring the phone, intensive sms around 20 sms a day. 3 days is considered whooping, but greedy me  tongue.gif , if 5 days, it would be a distinction to me!
3) A bigger qwerty pad. Honestly, I do miss the letter very often when typing. Is as bad as 15% I will hit the wrong letter.
4) Smaller size

Now most of us are comparing it to W960i, but I chose this phone to W960i basically becos of :-
1) Majorly, I prefer sd card which W960i lack of. I can have more than 8G, if you know what I mean. I have great control on what I wanna put, what i wanna use, how i wanna sync the contents, transfer, share my contents with other phones, lend my sd card to my frens etc..I am FREE to control my storage.
2) Qwerty! is useful when u get use to it. It really makes a different.
3) A more executive look. W960i is too hip to be hold when u r in tidy executive suit, or in an important meeting with serious businessman.
4) Price...not confirmed, but hearsay is definately more expensive than P1i, an AP of P1i is only around 1500 ( I dun like AP), but hearsay W960i AP is around 2200RM...again is hearsay, u may disregard this if you are considering to change your phone to P1i or W960.
5) Is in the market now  rclxms.gif
*
the 3 days battery life is already considered good for me and the QWERTY pad, trust me, it takes time to get used to it.i took almost a month to get familiar wif it and now i could type definitely faster than conventional 0-9 keypad.

as for W960, the only thing i looking forward is the Walkman 3.0 aka Walkman Touch software. anyway, there is already ppl who successfully converted the W960 firmware to be used on P1i. It is just a matter of time that someone hack to support the QWERTY pad and M2 slot. He is the same fellow that hacked M600i to be used with W950 firmware and he did ported the W950 firmware to be used in conjunction with memory card slot and QWERTY pad of M600

yup, that is correct. to check your firmware, go to Menu > More > Information. check the version for organizer.
latest one is R6F41 while R6E30 and R6D23 is the old one

for other CDA normally u have to wait for weeks to months for SE to fully update the locale.
i couldn't wait that long and therefore i uses XS++ to change my CDA to GW1 and continue update happily ever after.
also, i seen that XS++ is able to flash the CDA to HK CDA. and i think by doing that would enable the chinese fonts and writing support.

QUOTE(lovehewit @ Nov 4 2007, 10:39 AM)
thx fx_53, u really a pro. What's CDA? I think mine is CDA then, the firmware is R6E30, when i checked the update, it said none. What's XS? What's GW? Which one is the best? Should I change too? Why is it better to change?
*
CDA is a region number code that SE define for different region(location) or branding(O2, vodafone etc). you can check your CDA code from Menu > More > Information and under CDA, the number after the backslash is your CDA code. check the code against the one provided here http://uiq3.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/CDA/P1i to know which region your phone belongs to.

When SE release a firmware, they usually release it for GW1, GW2 and GW3 first, which stands for Generic World 1, Generic World 2 and Generic World 3.(if your CDA number after the backslash is 1,2 or 3, then they belongs to Generic World). SE after that need to make some very minor modification to the firmware (normally regional settings) to suit to different region. When you update using SEUS, it first check the CDA of your phone, and check whether the firmware has been released for your phone. From what i see on the wiki, currently only Generic World 1,2, and 3 enjoys the latest R6F41 firmware.

there are few techniques to flash to the latest firmware regardless ur CDA :
1) Fooling SEUS : look for someone who has GW1 CDA, then copy his blob_fs folder under SEUS installation directory to your PC. Compare the size of the file one by one (exact bytes) to your own blob_fs directory. once you found the matching size of the file, rename the new file to be the same as the one in your own blob_fs directory and overwrite them. Then proceed to execute SEUS. by overwriting using GW1's file, you fools SEUS into thinking your phone is GW1 and thus gives you the latest firmware regardless the CDA.

2) using davinci : google around for davinci, pay some money to get the unlocking software and proceed to modify the CDA of your phone.

3) XS++ (IMHO, free and most reliable) : visit the link here : http://forums.se-nse.net/index.php?showtopic=6805
Download XS++ from the link above. and then follow the step below :
i) tick smartphone connect
ii) press connect
iii) turn off your phone, remove and put back the battery, connect the USB cable while holding C button.
iv) select GDFS and press backup GDFS
v) unplug the USB cable
vi) restart XS++ (not necessarily but i found my XS++ to be error without restarting it)
vii) turn off your phone, remove and put back the battery, connect the USB cable while holding C button.
viii) select the CDA version that you want from the drop down menu and execute.
ix) disconnect and restart the phone.
x) you should now be enjoying the new CDA and proceed to SEUS to get the latest firmware.

*note : Although you may revert it to your original CDA whenever you want, there are still slight chances that you VOID your warranty by doing any of the hack mentioned above.

*note2 : phones that were bricked from SEUS update is covers by warranty while XS++ is a third part software and therefore if you bricked the phone while using XS++, it might considered warranty voided as well.
