hmm ya i agree with u..i quite like the current PS3..i am amazed tat the grip and aqua planing is still good despite the tyres will b due soon..i can still comfortably cruise at 140-160km/h (110-120 in the rain) without being too noisy, tackle highway u-turn exit at 80km/h, going through puddles...during hard-braking they performed quite well too..the onli bad point is the price..anyway advan fleva and f1d5 will b in my shorlisted candidates for the next tyre change
*
Good, do update us though if you get the new Fleva. smile.gif It is also high on my list but it will still take me around another 2yrs before I need to change on my current CSC5, so if you or anyone else already get them then I can get feedback before my time to change. brows.gif

i have one problem though..where the heck am i going to find yokohama dealers in penang..googled but not clearly stated if the handful of shops have them or not..1/2 confirm got but distance is quite far for me..haizzz
*
It's ok la if a bit far, you change tires only like once every 2-3 years what. smile.gif

Hi, for size 205/55/16, Goodyear Efficientgrip Performance also good or Dunlop BlueResponse (If both avail in Malaysia). They are more in comfort and less noise. Performance wise also good. Otherwise PS3 shall be the one to go for if no budget constraint.
*
Those 2 are just mid-level tires, maybe better in terms of comfort or noise but definitely below PS3 level in terms of performance.

Any recommendations for alza ? Need quiet and safe wet driving. I read about Toyo ne3. Mixed reviews. Most good review did state that they are made in Japan. But Toyo acquired Silverstone factory recently right? I'm planning to get 195/55/15. Am planning to get xm2 but some forumers did say it is not good in wet driving. Currently using stock Silverstone, actually it's good and durable, just that it is brick bumpy and noisy.
*
Silverstone is actually rubbish tire. for your size you can already opt for way much better tires. Forget about the Toyo or XM2 also. See my post above on 1st Feb, those are your best choices available plus PS3 which probably still the best choice for that size if wet performance is an important criteria for you.

Currently using stock Toyo T1 Proxes, damn noisy. But got to admit the performance is superb imo.

Im willing to sacrifice grip for quiet tyres. Any recommendation? Maybe need to change to 225/40R18 or 225/45R18.
*
Toyo T1 is not so good grip actually. If you want really good high performance tires with also pretty quiet, try the new Goodyear F1 Asymmetric 3, it's rated at only 68dB! If want much cheaper option, then can try the new Yokohama Advan Fleva, also rated around 67-69db. (Most other tires are rated at over 70db which is like double the noise).

You are driving mazda 3 also right? Think ive seen you in m3 thread. So which tyre are you using now? I get in average 80-83 dB using the toyo T1 tires doing 100kmh

So far i have options ps3, bridgestone gr100, yoko advan fleva, and goodyear f1 asymmetric 3.
*
No I'm not, I'm driving Toyota Mark X, currently on Continental CSC5.
F1A3 should be the best choice for silent high performance tires now but expensive since still made in Germany. Fleva is cheaper option but performance should be below F1A3. PS3 is excellent tire too but not that silent, just normal for this type of UHP tires. GR100 is just mid level tires below the others, not worth it.

Am currently using GY Assurance Triple Max 225 45 R17,
Please suggest something similar or better grade, complete whole set
*
First choice: Michelin PS4, absolute best for now!
2nd: Continental CSC5, the best before PS4 came along.
3rd: The new Goodyear F1 Asymmetric 3, maybe slightly less performance than the above but still way much better than your Assurance and probably the quietest high performance tire now. Beware that the price is still around rm600 for that size coz still made in Germany!

Other notable choice:
Yokohama Advan Fleva, should be way much cheaper than the 3 above but should still give higher performance than your tire now.

Time flies so does my tire's tread... bangwall.gif Currently using Toyo Proxes T1R 225/40/18, very satisfy with its performance on both wet and dry tarmac also gives excellent grip in fast corners. The down part is the noise level will get louder after 30% usage onwards... I think wouldn't be much an irritation for newer cars nowadays. Tread wear is more lasting than Yoko S-Drive. Overall my choice that time for RM500-ish tire are T1R>S-Drive>RE002.

As said times comes for new rubber again but financial aren't getting any better as our currency is. cry.gif So eventually gotta look for other alternative and saw Hankook Ventus S1 Evo2 has some quite positive reviews and was hoping if anyone had used this tire before to share their review with me.

Thanks & Cheers! smile.gif
*
Based on reviews I read in Europe, this S1 Evo 2 is pretty good and should be way better than your T1R! T1R is actually considered rather weak for UHP level tires, plus already very old model too. So since you find T1R is already very good for you then I would think the S1 Evo 2 should exceed your expectation already.

This is the latest test result involving the S1 Evo 2 and it came out 2nd overall to the winner CSC6, and beating many other top brands like Dunlop Sportmaxx, Pirelli P Zero, and Goodyear F1A3!

Sweet! With that said, I'll go with the S1 Evo2 for this round consider price is like RM100+ cheaper per pc compared to T1R and doubled to PS4. thumbup.gif Hope this "kimchi" tires live up to its expectations. biggrin.gif

Thanks bro 6UE5T for your wonderful feedback! notworthy.gif
*
No problem, hope it lives up to your expectation though, and do let us know your review after you try it. Coz this is also one of the tires I'm considering to try once my CSC5 is finished. However in case it disappoints you, please do tell us also, and don't blame me ya coz I'm just telling you based on what I read so far. laugh.gif

QUOTE(AaronLJW @ Apr 7 2017, 11:00 AM)
hmm.gif PS4 not in competition haha due to no size.. If not I think will top the chart again
*
Maybe but maybe not also. Coz in the 2016 Autoexpress review, PS4 did top the chart BUT if you look closely of the comparison chart, it only did so due to much better rolling resistance than the older CSC5 plus a little bit shorter braking on dry & wet but on other performance criteria on average the CSC5 still edges PS4 a bit. I'd say if reading that review, PS4 & CSC5 is still just about equal, can swing either way depending on preference and test condition. So now if compared to the newer CSC6, I'm not too sure, and by right CSC6 would be clearly better than CSC5 should be compared to PS4S which are both playing at the same big sizes only (19' above).

The maximum I can let you squeeze for PS3 is 45 - 50K, usually there are around 30 - 40K kms
Potenza RE003 is slightly faster to finish, I would say 20 - 35K kms..

XM2 can past the 50K kms mark, some even until 70K kms.
*
I think if you drive normal2 only with good alignment and rotate at least every 15/20k km, the PS3 should last 45-50k km or even a bit more. I suppose you drive aggressively very often ya. brows.gif

XM2 should easily last over 60k km.

hi ,

usually one normal good year tyre can use how long ?? mine is just 2 years and it seem almost time to change again ..
*
Depends on type of tires and how aggressively you drive.
If you use tires with softer compounds, then that tire will finish faster. The easier indicator of this is the tread wear rating, the lower it is the softer/the faster it should finish.
If you drive more aggressively/often push hard in the corners, then that also will finish tires faster.
So which Goodyear tires do you use and how do you drive?

Guys I am quoted rm 600 a piece for ps3 and goodyear f1 d5. Size is 225/45/18...which one is more worthy
*
None, coz you can top up just a bit more (rm30-50) and get the new PS4 instead.

Used to drive the Bridgestone ER60, grip was fine, aquaplaning not so much of an issue.

Then I switched to XM2, and was rather disappointed. Wheels would lock up quite easily compared to the ER60, but I guess it lasts long...? Not sure if the added risk for accidents is worth the savings though.

Now I'm on Pirelli P7. In terms of grip they are fine, and when pushing them to the limit you can feel them reach it nicely, good feedback (amongst the tyres I've driven so far). They aren't doing so well with aquaplaning though, and once the road is wet I can get wheel spin in 3rd. Not ideal. And even though my set is only 4 years old, the rubber is cracked all over the place. Will have to replace them soon, even though there's still enough profile there. I think the compound already got hard, which is surprising.

For my next ones I'm looking towards the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3, or perhaps Michelin Pilot Sport 4, Continental Sport Contact 6 something along those lines. No Pirelli P Zero for me, as it looks like I'm not the only one who has had Pirellis where the compound got hard rather early. I'm surprised by the Hankook results... that sounds rather good, and the price is significantly lower than the CSC6...

Winter tyres I won't mention here, because not really useful in Malaysia.
*
CSC6 is not available below size 19'. You can consider the new CPC6 instead, or the older CSC5 which is still an excellent tire even compared to the newer PS4 or F1A3.

Ah, explains why I couldn't find them.  bangwall.gif  doh.gif Not going to switch to 19"...  laugh.gif

A friend used to have P Zero on his car, then switched to the Hankook that's frequently discussed here, and he's happy (first with an S5, then F-Type R). A friend of his also switched from P Zero to the S1 evo2, and he too is happy (Giulia Quadrifoglio). Then again the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asy 3 are supposed to be great too, and are in a similar price range.
*
Those Hankook S1 E2 7 V12 E2 should be a great value for money compared to the other premium brands.
F1A3 so far has not been getting as great reviews as expected though, mostly around middle of the pack, but it has unique characteristic of being silent which is very rare for this type of tire.

I guess the new P Zero is under also under silent category, majority of the common sizes are under 70dB.
*
Yeah anything below 70db is pretty silent already. Most others are above 70db.

Hi guys, whats the best tyre to replace my stock (195/55r15 Silverstone Synergy M5) tyres on Proton Iriz 1.6 MT? I'm thinking of going for bigger width. is this recommended?
*
No need to go wider, just use much better tires than that shit Silverstone! My recommendation to you are listed below in order:
Michelin PS3: the best, most well balanced high performance tire for this size. Also the most expensive (close to rm250/pc) but worth it!
Goodyear F1D5: practically match PS3 very close, also excellent well balanced tire between dry & wet performance with pretty good durability too. Price also almost reaching PS3, maybe just a bit cheaper.
Hankook V12 Evo2: so far today should be the best value for money as it's the cheapest in this list (only around rm180/pc) but gives performance almost as good.
Bridgestone RE003: excellent in the dry (maybe the best) but not as good in the wet, seems to focus more on dry performance than the rest in this list. Also will finish off the soonest coz the tread wear is the lowest at only 220 (the rest are 300 or above so last longer). Price now maybe around rm200-220/pc.
Yokohama Advan Fleva V701: the newest tire in this list but seems also the one with the most mixed reviews, some say decent enough but some say not so good too. Price similar to RE003.

hi all sifu,

currently was planning to change tyre but the tyre shop recommend Nexen RU5.
anyone has the experience on this tyre?

originally was looking at Michelin Primacy SUV or Latitude. but very less review on it.

How about Achilles Desert Hawk? these 3 brands was suggested because:

1) Achilles = cheapest among 3
2) Nexen = was recommended by tyre shop. And price wise, the moderate.
3) Michelin = i was previous user of Michelin tyre but was on sedan car. Now change to SUV already but not sure how is the performance. This is the most expensive among these 3 brands.

my tyre size is 235/55R18 but Michelin Primacy has only either 235/50R18 or 235/60R18. Anyone tried these size before?

my concern is on safety in term of cornering and wet, quiet and comfort. now normal driving around 110kmh to 140kmh. so far no heavy load.

appreciate on all sifu feedback.
*
Forget about all those especially the Achilles and Nexen, those are not so good tires. Get Continental CSC5 SUV, it has your exact size, confirmed way much better than all those 3, just that you need to spend more. smile.gif

I got phobia with Conti already. Used CC5 previously on sedan, 6 months kaput already. Then, OEM 17" MaxContact 5, noise like hell. Currently 18" wheel also using Conti. Having said that, do u mind to share ur experience on SportContact 5?
*
CC5 is a lousy low end range from Continental Malaysia la, no comparison! MC5 is also just mid range tire made in Malaysia also, not that good. CSC5 is Continental's top of the line tire made in Europe, rivaling the likes of Michelin PS4/PSS, Goodyear F1A2/3, & Pirelli P Zero for performance. I'm using CSC5 now for 2+ years and so far the best tire I've ever used but again in terms of performance coz I don't care about noise! I think though the noise is still acceptable, typical of such high performance tires (around 71-73db).

Yeah. I just read uder review and many Singaporean also says the same thing. The noise level. But performance is gooding. Do u mind to share what tyre size you are using and how much u bought?
*
For CSC5 I'm using 225/50/17 now, bought pretty cheap for only rm500/pc all inclusive back in Oct 2015. If you want silent high performance tires then Goodyear F1A3 but it's not available for your size.
