Here's my review (on the scale of 1-5)

Brand: Goodyear Eagle F1-D5
Sizes: fr 215/50/17, rr 245/45/17
Noise: I'll give a 3 cuz a bit noisy.
Dry grip: very good, maybe a 4.
Wet grip: pretty good too, have tried going up to 130kph on the straight and 100-110kph in some sweepers with good stability. I'll give a 4.
Comfort: very good, I'll give a 4.
Price: fr rm430, rr rm600.

noted with thanks!

is there any impact if change to 195 from 185??
*
More comfort due to thicker sidewall (by 0.55cm), and should have better grip too due to 1cm wider tires. Diameter will increase by 1.1 cm, which may affect acceleration but should be minimal.

Hi guys,
I've been reading this thread and still can't decide which tyre to buy.. planning to change all 4 tyres for my car within this 2months.
Looking for 225/45/18. My total budget maybe around RM2,000.

Would appreciate if you can suggest for me an all rounder tyre, but more concern on tyre noise. Maybe the ratio would be like 65% NVH/comfort, 35% performance.

Thank you very much in advance.

P/S any review on Bridgestone Potenza RE003??
*
Try GT Radial HPY then, good value for money and should be below your budget.

Hey guys. Just wondering what tyres would be good for a comfortable ride yet good enough to take corners without the fear of losing grip? Stock 16'rims

Michelin PS3, Goodyear F1-D5.

My Persona have been using Yokohama A-Drive R1 for 5 months @ almost 10,000 km. On dry road, as I hope so. But on wet, too much aquaplaning. When hit a very shallow puddle also can aquaplaning. Even NCT5 that I use before this was better on wet. Reviews from internet haven't state that this tyre that bad on wet.

What's wrong? Tyre pressure?? Usually pump 33 psi at the front & 31 psi at the back. The tyre not 'mature' yet? I guess 9,000 km good enough.. or I'm wrong??
*
Tire, particularly the tread pattern is just not good enough. Nothing wrong with the pressures, and tires should already give best performance after just 500km usage. You may try give a few more psi of pressure to help a bit but it would not improve so much.

Anyone know what happen to my tyres. It's hankook tyres, four side of tyres also having these problem
*
QUOTE(kw @ Mar 28 2016, 09:54 PM)
My previous Michelin ps3 also behaved the same, it happens after tyre about 50-60% wear off.
Mind to share what hankook model you are using?
*
It's the Ventus Prime2, right?
Some tires do have chipping like that, some can be a bit more some a bit less. My previous F1D5 also have quite a lot of chipping especially after reaching below 50% treads.

Anyway do you often corner fast? If you do then that also makes it worse. I personally have all my previous tires chipping, no matter what type or brands, just some a bit less and some a bit more like the F1D5. So far only my current tire Continental CSC5 has not yet chipped but they're still very new, only bought about 4 mths ago and about 5-6k km usage, so not sure if it still can hold after 50% use or got chipping as well.

My Toyo C1S 255/35/18 burst while travelling to Lumut 2 weeks ago. Had no choice but to change a pair as the other one looked like its gonna go soon.

Not much choice in Sitiawan. Had to settle for a pair of Landsail LS588 225/35/18 (mfg 4915) for RM500 each.

Initial impression for first 100km (had to drive back to KL on these new rubbers) tires were a bit slippery, maybe because it was new. But after an hour or so on the highway, can feel the tires wer gripping surprisingly good on the road, not that noisy too. Cornering was a lil bit cautious as it slipped a bit, maybe due to it being new (biasa la layan corner upon entering hiway hehehehe). It rained along the journey. Good grip in wet too, but was not pushing it past the speed limit.

Now its been 2 weeks, with nearly 1000km clocked on the tires. Good grip in dry as well as wet. Less noise compared to my Toyo. Surprisingly good tire for the price. A quick check on the net showed good reviews of the Landsail LS588.
*
Review result from Test World 2015 Summer test was not so good on this tire. It's ranked mid pack among 15 mid range tires tested.

"8th: Landsail LS588 UHP
Total: 81.3 / Dry: 16 / Wet: 32 / Comfort: 9 / Rolling Resistance: 8 / Noise: 8 / Overall: 8.3
Positive: Short braking distance in the wet and dry
Negative: Handling not good enough in the dry. Very weak aquaplaning resistance.
Overall: The Landsail LS588 UHP were surprisingly unbalanced. Braking in the wet was excellent, but handling very unstable. In addition, the tyre copes worse than the others with emergency manoeuvres and is quite susceptible to aquaplaning. On dry pavement they again quickly stopped the car, but had very slow response to steering. Lateral grip and stability are too weak for the optimal performance of a sharp manoeuvre at high speed. Because of their softness they demonstrated a high level of comfort, effectively absorbing road irregularities"

Hi guys,

anyone can recommend tyre for size 215/50R17?

brand and price
*
QUOTE(a.h.wan @ Apr 15 2016, 02:15 PM)
michelin ps3 is around RM480 without gst for that size. overall excellent tyre but the price might be quite steep for some.
*
Others are Hankook V12 Evo 2, Bridgestone RE003, and Goodyear F1-D5, all should be a cheaper than PS3 with comparable performance.

I upgrade from 215/50R17 Michelin Primacy thumbsup.gif (excellent comfort - RM400+) with 225/50R17 Yokohama Cdrive2(Nearly same performance with good comfort - RM300+). I read B/stone Potenza(RM300+) also good & for cheap price try Falken 914(made in Thailand - RM200+)

Overall Rating: 1. Michelin Primacy 2. Potenza 3. CDrive2 4. Falken 914
Long Lasting: 1. CDrive2 2. Falken 914 3. Potenza 4. Primacy
Cheap Price: 1. Falken 914 2. CDrive2 3. Potenza 4. Primacy 5. PS3

Change size from 215/50/17 to 225/50/17 surely would improve comfort as the sidewall is thicker by 0.5cm.
Potenza line up has many different types ranging from mid range entry level performance to high performance ones, need to be more specific which Potenza.
Falken Ziex 914 is low-mid range tire only.

Other very good tyre is Goodyear F1 Assy.2/3 but all low profile tyre like 215/45R17 & other very good option Goodyear Eff/grip Performance but not available in Malaysia.
*
Yes the F1 is GY top of the line street performance tire, similar category to PS3 and 1 or even 2 level above the other tires you mentioned before.

Preparing to change my peugeot 508 shoes.

215/55/17 prefer good grip and comfort of coz if can last longer as i use it for daily sales. My current primacy original came with car clock almost 54000km and still can last till 60k.

Currently what i have in mind

Michellin : ps3 : ppl complaint noisy, p3st make in thailand now.

Toyo tires or Pirelli which to go with?
*
PS3 not noisy la.
Made in Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, or even China is fine as long as good tire brand.

Toyo not so good, even their top of the line T1 Sport is quite behind those top brands like Michelin, Goodyear, Continental, etc2. Pirelli is better than Toyo, can be on par with those other top brands but price is also quite expensive. Better go with PS3, Goodyear F1, or Continental CSC5.

hi bro, i'm planning to buy Michelin Primacy 3 ST 215/50R17 soon. you got any place with good price? i got one shop quote rm568 each.
*
That's bloody expensive leh! Which shop is this so we know to avoid it! Even the higher category Michelin PS3 can get much cheaper than that. If you live around Klang Valley maybe can try ask OS Autocare in Shah Alam or Top Hill Auto in Setia Alam.

falken 914 although its a budget tire...for 205/45/17 it has w speed rating...dry performance quite good for the price...wet still haven't try...if i can maintain 110kph during heavy rain its good enough for me as i can only drive 140kph in heavy rain(2 car distance in front cant see anything) on ps3...beyond that it start to sway
*
Falken Ziex 914 is nowhere near PS3 in performance, dry or wet. For Falken seems only the top of the line Azenis 453 is worth a try.

RE003 - NICE

dry grip nice... for me slow type driver.

wet also ok. but at 90, puddle of watter depth of around 8 cm, steering vibrate @ shake. but still under control. after that never go beyond 90 in heavy rain..
*
8cm of puddle is damn deep leh, ANY tires will aquaplane and steering will get affected surely! How do you know also if it's 8cm or even 8mm for that matter, did you go and measure it?

I know rite, stock 16" rims for Honda Jazz.... Out of so many brands in Malaysia such as Continental, Goodyear, Dunlop, Bridgestone, Toyo Tires, Michelin, do you still think Michelin's tyre are still best for high speed cornering and handling?
*
QUOTE(jemmi @ Apr 20 2016, 12:57 PM)
What model for Continental, Goodyear, Dunlop, Bridgestone & Toyo for size 185/55R16 available here? hmm.gif
May be I can recommend which model good performance.
The performance depend on model, michelin xm3 above average but not as good as primacy3. If average speed below 150kmh than XM3 good enough. Normally good performance tyre support big rim 17" above & low profile below 50 series
*
Stock Jazz rims is 6jj width, right? Then can still use 205/50/16 tires, then there'll be some choices for UHP tires like PS3, RE003, F1-D5.

Alright, thank you very much for your opinion... I just realized Honda Jazz stock rims seems to be 16 x 6J, I was wondering if 195 or 205 can go with it?
EDIT:
I used a tire calculator online just now to compare 185/55/16 and 205/50/16, it shows a difference of 0.25% in terms of diameter. So i think should be alright where I will be having wider tyres but lower profile a little. Hmmmm  hmm.gif
*
QUOTE(jemmi @ Apr 20 2016, 04:14 PM)
Upgrade/change tyre size from 185/55R16 to 205/50R16(if your rim & tyre space can support), you will get better grip(handling, breaking & cornering) but not fuel economy & steering control little bit heavy in slow cornering.
*
Yes, like I told you before, just use the 205/50/16, then you can use UHP tires, much better handling and safety too!
Fuel economy might be slightly worse but I think it's a much worthy trade off for the handling and safety.
Heavier steering will not be that noticeable actually. In fact it can actually make you feel more in control when driving fast rather than nowadays super light steering with floating/not much feel from the electric power steering systems.
