Do workshop normally change the washer on the sump nut ? Or give you one when the old is probably missing?
Secondly many workshop nowadays use wrench to fasten the oil filter like it should be fasten as tight as possible. I read on several online places that oil filter suppose to just use hand to tighten. This post has been edited by filage: Feb 1 2019, 05:04 PM |

Any outside workshop will allow you to bring your own parts. They will just charge you higher for workmanship. Those places that charge like RM10 for oil change is already making some profit from the engine oil itself. If they charge you only RM10 to change to your own engine oil then they will close shop soon. Better hurry.
Do take note that servicing a car is not just about changing engine oil. When you send car to service, they are supposed to inspect other things and condition. Like eg, absorber leaking oil, need to change and so on. If only change engine oil and they never check anything or even if they did but never inform you then that workshop is lousy. In long term you are going to fork out more money to fix your car. That is why SC charges higher. They do proper preventive maintenance for you. |

QUOTE(Thrust @ Mar 26 2017, 10:43 AM) I went to a car workshop yesterday & they charged me RM21 labour charge just to replace engine oil. 6 months ago, it was RM15. this might be an older thread, but some cars have complicated procedure to change oil, so it may be worth to have a professional do it, however other fluids dont have that much of a complicated procedure. I would also recommend transmission fluid be changed by professional too. What is the average labour cost from other workshop to replace engine oil? Guess the next round, I will change the engine oil myself. Some fluids you can change yourself. Tyres defintely fill up yourself regularly. Its the same thing with changing the battery, the computers get wiped with no power which can cause the car to run poorly so need to be powered with the engine off but you can change it yourself if you have the right tools and knowhow, but transmission fluids and for some cars for engine oil, it can be very messy and complicated to change yourself. |

Subang Jaya USJ7, there's a shop called quicksave auto boutique. Very nice place, been sending our cars there for the last decade after our car is out of warranty. Can bring own oil, leftover or what they won't care and will charge you labor only. Iirc the labor is less than RM50 for oil & filter change. Maybe around RM30. The boss's name is Leon, nice guy with good knowledge and not stingy to share. |
