well, otherwise the mug would fall off due to air pressure and wave action from the sloshing
point here is that the liquid was pretty level rclxms.gif
Not sure Pendekar can do that, T-72s aren't known for good gun stabilisation whistling.gif
that ship is almost at the end of its useful life, it's built only to commercial standards
even warships require SLEP at 25 years, HMS Ocean is expected to be only scrapworthy at that time

A400M delivers first humanitarian cargo with Royal Malaysian Air Force

Airbus Foundation facilitated the collaboration between Royal Malaysian Airforce, Spanish Red Cross and Airbus to deliver humanitarian cargo using the A400M

The Royal Malaysian Airforce (RMAF), Airbus and the Spanish Red Cross have worked together to deliver a load of humanitarian goods from Seville, Spain, to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies Asia Pacific Regional Office in Malaysia on Thursday 23 March.

The cargo consisted of mosquito nets, which will be used to prevent malaria outbreaks following future natural disasters in the region. The collaboration has been facilitated by the Airbus Foundation and utilised the delivery flight of the fourth A400M to the RMAF.

"For the Royal Malaysian Air Force humanitarian missions are a key part of our mission and we have invested considerable training and resources to ensure that we are fully able to assist in the event of a natural disaster anywhere in the region," said General Dato' Sri Affendi Buang Chief of RMAF.

"We are delighted that this delivery flight to the Royal Malaysian Air Force has carried a load of humanitarian goods for the Red Cross. This will certainly be the first of many HADR missions, for which this aircraft is designed and ideally suited and we look forward to further support this in the future," added Fernando Alonso, Head of Military Aircraft Airbus Defence and Space.

Philippine army plans all-Muslim units amid insurgency

user posted image

MANILA: The Philippine military announced plans to create all-Muslim fighting units on Saturday (Apr 15), with quotas from the Catholic country's largest religious minority, as it looks to bolster efforts to tackle insurgents.

Five per cent of all new applications will be allocated for Muslims under the new order, military spokesman Colonel Edgard Arevalo said in a statement, adding the eventual aim was to have a dedicated brigade or division to be deployed in the country's troubled south.

The Philippines is battling Muslim extremist militants in lawless southern regions, some of whom have pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group.

Arevalo said the Muslim quota, which roughly reflects the proportion of the religious minority in the population, would help the army operate in areas where it has been previously viewed with suspicion by local people.

"Most of our Muslim brothers and sisters perceive the deployment of almost 100 per cent Christian soldiers in their communities as invading or occupational forces," he said, adding that fellow Muslims would be more aware of religious or cultural "sensitivities".

The statement did not give details of the existing numbers of Muslims in the military.

The southern region of Mindanao, the ancestral homeland of the Philippines' Muslim minority, has been locked in a separatist insurgency since the 1970s, with the conflict claiming more than 120,000 lives.

While the major rebel organisations have for years observed a ceasefire with the government as part of peace efforts, there are breakaway factions opposed to compromise and other gangs that have declared allegiance to the IS.

Evidence that Syria sarin gas attack was staged: Moscow

user posted image

MOSCOW • Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov yesterday said a chemical weapons attack in Syria that provoked US missile strikes on the Middle Eastern country may have been orchestrated.

"There's growing evidence that this was staged," he said at a Moscow news conference with his Iranian and Syrian counterparts.

Publications, including in the United States and Britain, have highlighted "many inconsistencies" in the version of events in Syria's Idlib province last week that was used to justify the American air strikes, Mr Lavrov said.

user posted image

Russia, Iran and Syria want an independent investigation and those opposed to the call "don't have a clear conscience", he said.

Russia vetoed a United Nations Security Council resolution on Wednesday that demanded that the Syrian government cooperate with an inquiry into the suspected sarin gas attack that killed dozens of people.

US President Donald Trump ordered cruise missile strikes on an airbase in Syria last week, after his administration accused Russia of trying to cover up Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad's role in the chemical weapons attack. Moscow contends that the chemicals belonged to terrorists.

Mr Lavrov called on the US not to repeat the air strikes, which he said were part of efforts to oust Mr Assad that will not succeed.

The crisis dominated talks in Moscow between US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday as the Kremlin rebuffed demands to abandon its ally, Mr Assad.

Mr Putin's military backing of Mr Assad has been crucial in keeping the regime in power after six years of civil war.

The US has not shown evidence that Mr Assad was responsible for the April 4 attack in Idlib, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters yesterday in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, where Mr Putin was attending a collective defence meeting of former Soviet republics.

user posted image

The US "is confident the Syrian regime conducted a chemical weapons attack, using the nerve agent sarin, against its own people", according to a four-page document published by Washington on Tuesday that contained evidence, including satellite images, reports from the scene and details of exposure gathered from victims.

Russia says Syrian forces struck a building where terrorists kept the internationally banned chemical. The US says it has images proving the bomb left a crater in a road rather than hitting a building.

In an interview with Agence France-Presse on Wednesday, Mr Assad insisted his forces had turned over all stockpiles of chemical weapons in 2013, under a deal brokered by Russia to avoid threatened US military action.

The Syrian leader questioned whether the attack had in fact occurred, claiming that "fake videos" and "propaganda" were being used against his government. He also alleged that last week's chemical weapons attack was a fabrication to justify the US military strike.

His remarks were rejected by French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault yesterday. "It's 100 per cent lies and propaganda," Mr Ayrault said during a visit to Beijing, mirroring language used by Mr Assad himself. "The reality is that more than 300,000 have died, 11 million people have been displaced or become refugees, tens of thousands have been placed in Syrian prisons and a country has been destroyed," Mr Ayrault said. "That is the reality. It is not a fantasy."

Turkey in final stages to purchase S-400 missile system

S-400 missile system purchase at final stage: Turkish defense minister

DAILY SABAH

ISTANBUL

PublishedApril 13, 2017

Turkey’s decision to purchase S-400 surface-to-air missile systems from Russia is to be finalized soon, Defense Minister Fikri Işık said on Thursday after meeting his U.S. counterpart James Mattis at the Pentagon.

Speaking to reporters before the meeting, Işık said Turkey urgently needs an air defense system and the final decision to buy the S-400 systems will be made by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım.

Işık also said that Turkey has welcomed the recent U.S. air strike on the Syrian regime’s Shayrat air base in Syria in retaliation to the chemical weapons attack in Idlib.

“Two NATO allies need to deepen their bilateral relations, and the common threats both Turkey and the U.S. are facing make it necessary to have a strong cooperation,” the minister said.

For his part, Mattis said Turkish and American armies are working closely to fight against many terror groups, including Daesh and the PKK.

The S-400 was developed as an upgraded version of the S-300 series of surface-to-air missile systems. The system entered service in April 2007 and the first S-400 was deployed in combat in August 2007. According to sources within the defense industry, a regular S-400 battalion consists of at least eight launchers with 32 missiles and a mobile command post.

The system can engage all types of aerial targets, including aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) and ballistic and cruise missiles within the range of 400 kilometers (249 miles), at an altitude of up to 30 kilometers. The S-400 systems are capable of firing three types of missiles to create a layered defense, and the system can be deployed within five minutes, while simultaneously engaging 36 targets.

As a NATO-member, Turkey’s procurement of the Russian S-400 system has raised concerns regarding the compatibility and integration of these weapons into the N.A.T.O. infrastructure. Minister Işık clarified last month that Turkey will use the Russian systems without integration, noting: ”Russia’s S-400 missile systems will not be integrated into the N.A.T.O. system.”

Minister Işık also said the Russian missile system will be used to fulfill Turkey’s immediate requirement while stressing that the uncompromising attitude of N.A.T.O.-member countries compelled Turkey to purchasing Russia’s S-400 missile defense system. “We underwent negotiations to purchase N.A.T.O.-produced missile systems, but we could not get a reasonable offer in terms of price and technology transfer. Thus, our negotiations with the Russians have intensified,” Minister Işık said on March 15.

Sendayan Air Base, Largest Professional Training Centre for RMAF

KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama) – The Sendayan air base in Negeri Sembilan, which is now in the final stage of construction will be the largest professional training centre for officers and men of the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) in the country.

The facility located on a 303.5 hectare site, 12km from Seremban, however does not have a runway as it will not be involved in any flight operation. blink.gif

The air base which is expected to be completed by year-end is part of the restructuring programme of the Kuala Lumpur air base in Sungai Besi here which would in turn, be developed as Bandar Malaysia.

Kuala Lumpur air base relocation project team head, Col Ramli Mohd Abd Jabar said the Sendayan air base would merge all three RMAF training centres in Subang, Kinrara and Penang under one roof.

“The facilities in Sendayan air base will ensure a more centralised approach to all RMAF professional training,” he told Bernama in an interview here.

The air base which began contruction in 2013 will house professional training for RMAF personnel in logistics, administration and management.

Ramli said the Sendayan air base was three times larger than the Kuala Lumpur site and equipped with the most modern facilities in line with the national modernisation of RMAF.

The new air base will also have its own sports complex, golf course (nine- hole), equestrian course, swimming pool, Islamic centre and quarters complex.

Compared to the base in Kuala Lumpur which can only accommodate 250 units of quarters, the Sendayan site will have 693 housing units of various categories, including bungalow, semi-detached and apartments for officers and other personnel. hmm.gif

“RMAF hopes to provide a better quality of life for its staff and families with the improved quarters.

“The air base can accommodate almost 700 officers and personnel of other ranks and with their families, the number of people living there could reach 1,300,” said Ramli.

On the restructuring of flight operation assets from the Kuala Lumpur base, he said the assets had been transferred to four air bases, namely in Subang, Kuantan, Gong Kedak and Butterworth.

The exercise was conducted in stages by Perbadanan Perwira Harta Malaysia (PPHM), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Armed Forces Fund Board (LTAT).

PPHM was involved in developing eight sites for the relocation of the Kuala Lumpur air base to upgrade facilities and modernise assets, as well as the development of national defence.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is scheduled to visit the Sendayan air base tomorrow to look at the development and progress of the air base project.
