like the other pipu said, the hull is from ifv so ofc it's tall. it's not built from scratch as a tank so the inherent height is unavoidable unless they wanna do complete design makeover.

Having a tall tank or pendek tank is irrelevant today since any modern 3rd gen (hell even upgraded 2nd gen ones ) can hit any exposed turret from 2,3 km away. in iraq war the iraqi  put their tank in dug in position (classic defensive position, making tanks as makeshift pillboxes) and made makeshift dirt cover so only their turret is exposed but abram and bradley still rip them several new asshole. desway u see many half buried destroyed iraqi tanks

also, dun suppose you know but front glacis is (usually)thicker than turret armor. the tank may have better survival rate if enemy shot hit front hull compared to turret

i suppose being taller has its perks as well

it can peek above cover and have higher angle of firing hmm.gif

cons- not recommended to fire the cannon sideways..
another inherent design of light/medium tanks
amx13 & scorpion crews are advised to not do this
*
lol they should just lock the turret and force the barrel to only go up or down, not sideways

whats the point of having a turret then?

i guess for compatibility reasons? easy swap of 105mm gun turret to lighter armament (20mm or .50 cal) depending on situation?

Probably not that of a good idea to use the An-2 for mass paradrops nowadays, but for covert infiltration of special agents or small commando teams, I would still consider using these types of planes before the much more detectable helicopters or modern transport planes. The An-2's ability to land and take off from very crude landing strips or even open fields is a plus as it can also be used for exfiltration purposes.

Besides, an expert pilot with good intelligence sources can always find and exploit small gaps in the most secure of air defence systems. Natural atmospheric and geological occurences like thunderstorms or the sun's heat convection off the earth's surface can sometimes mess with the most sensitive electronic systems.

I have also heard stories during the cold war of skilled Soviet pilots turning off the engines of their An-2's mid-flight, to further avoid detection on infiltration/exfiltration missions across NATO borders and glide silently for up to 20-30 miles at treetop level with the engine off.  ohmy.gif

this isnt new, i remember British used to paradrop troops behind enemy lines silently by using gliders

reminds me alot of COD1 Pegasus Bridge mission, insertion by silent gliding

it would put into wonder why we even opt for the eastern block tanks like the PT91M instead of western like those of leopards, M1 or even leclerc given how we are good french purchaser

Even the leopard work well enough in indon infamous swamps and mud field, while M1 derivatives Korea K1 works for korea mountainous terrains. The leclerc for example have also been tropicalised like those for UAE with air-cond and APU. Other way includes eastern but western derivatives tanks like the Korea K2 and Japan Type 10

Pretty much to answer my own question, i strongly believe cost would have the main deciding factor instead of technological factors. Then again why not the T90 which also undergoes the same trial in malaysia

It been used in India with plenty of spares without much russian support and we also have working relationship with india

i think another issue would be how our army doctrine works?

i think the higher ups have thought that we dont need heavy MBTs, instead relying more on cheaper medium MBTs? hmm.gif

Haven't you noticed, Msians especially our govt have got very strong fox and sour grapes syndrome? If they are unable to get something they will say it is not suitable, highlight all its negative points, etc.... tapi dalam hati... brows.gif
