US drops 'Mother Of All Bombs' in Afghanistan
![]() WASHINGTON: The US military on Thursday (Apr 14) dropped the largest non-nuclear bomb ever deployed in combat, targeting an Islamic State complex in Afghanistan, the Pentagon said. US President Donald Trump called the mission "very, very successful." The GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast bomb hit a "tunnel complex" in Achin district in Nangarhar province, US Forces Afghanistan said in a statement. The strike occurred at 7.32pm (11.02pm Singapore time). "The GBU-43/B is the largest non-nuclear bomb ever deployed in combat," Air Force spokesman Colonel Pat Ryder said. Pentagon spokesman Adam Stump said the bomb was delivered via an MC-130 transport plane. General John Nicholson, who heads US Forces Afghanistan, described the weapon as the "right munition" to reduce IS obstacles and maintain the momentum against militants in the region. "As ISIS-K's losses have mounted, they are using IEDs, bunkers and tunnels to thicken their defense," he said, referring to a regional affiliate of the militant group. White House spokesman Sean Spicer said: "We must deny them operational space, which we did." ![]() The MOAB is better known by its nickname, the Mother of All Bombs, and was rapidly developed in 2002-2003 around the time of the US-led invasion of Iraq. The US military on Tuesday said an American special forces soldier had been killed while conducting operations against IS in Nangarhar, though it was not clear if Thursday's strike was connected in any way. Military officials declined to immediately provide additional details on the strike. Nangarhar, which borders Pakistan, is a hotbed of IS militancy. US forces have conducted a number of air strikes on jihadist bases in the area since August last year. IS, notorious for its reign of terror in Syria and Iraq, has been making inroads into Afghanistan in recent years. It has attracted disaffected members of the Pakistani and Afghan Taliban as well as Uzbek Islamists. But the group has been steadily losing territory in the face of heavy pressure both from US air strikes and a ground offensive led by Afghan forces. Islamic State's strength in Afghanistan has fallen to 600-800 fighters from 3,000 in early 2016, NATO has said, adding that it killed the top 12 IS commanders in the country last year. According to the Air Force, the last time the MOAB was tested in 2003, a huge mushroom cloud could be seen from 32 kilometres away. - AFP/de |

RSAF Sends Six F-15SG Jets to Guam for Training with US Forces
![]() SINGAPORE — The Republic has sent six F-15SG jets and about 100 personnel to an air base in Guam in the Western Pacific for training with a squadron from the United States Pacific Air Forces, said the Ministry of Defence (Mindef) on Thursday (April 13). Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong had said last year that the Government was exploring the possibility of the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) training in Guam. In response to TODAY’s queries, a Mindef spokesperson said: “The RSAF is deploying six F-15SGs and about 100 personnel from 142 Squadron to Andersen Air Force Base in Guam for fighter flying training with the United States Pacific Air Forces’ (US PACAF) 44th Fighter Squadron from April 10 to May 11 (this year).” ![]() “The RSAF and the US PACAF interact regularly through a wide range of activities, including regular bilateral and multilateral exercises such as Exercise Commando Sling and Exercise Cope Tiger. These interactions have enhanced the interoperability and people-to-people ties between the two air forces,” the spokesperson added. In a Facebook post on its page on April 5, the RSAF noted that the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) is “no stranger to Guam, with the Singapore Army having conducted bilateral exercises with the US Marine Corps there as early as the 1990s”. ![]() Lockheed Martin Sniper XR pod under F-15SG “Overseas training such as this is important for the RSAF as we face airspace constraints in Singapore. The vast overseas airspace allows our airmen and women to conduct realistic training to build up our operational capabilities and readiness. We also train regularly with other air forces such as Australia, India and Thailand,” the RSAF post said. Guam, a US island territory strategically located in the Western Pacific, has long been a station for passing jets and submarines and is a linchpin in Washington’s pivot to the Asia-Pacific region. According to US media reports last year, there were plans to turn Guam into a hub for about 5,000 US Marines who will be tasked with responding to conflicts and disasters in East Asia. In August last year, Mr Lee said that Singapore’s air training space and military ties with the United States would be expanded if discussions for training opportunities in Guam were finalised. “We have fighter training in America, flying training in Australia — we have a flying training school there, we have got a facility in France in Bordeaux. Guam, geographically, is a bit closer than these places,” Mr Lee had told the Singapore media as he wound up a four-day official visit to the US. ![]() |

QUOTE Lockheed Martin’s F-16C Fighting Falcon: Flying Until 2048 (Thanks to the F-35)? ![]() Dave Majumdar April 12, 2017 The venerable Lockheed Martin F-16C Fighting Falcon multirole fighter could be flying with the United States Air Force for decades to come. Indeed, the jet could be flying until 2048 before it finally retires. The Lockheed Martin F-35A Joint Strike Fighter is slated to eventually replace the long-serving “Viper”—as the F-16 known by its pilots—but the new stealth fighter is not being built fast enough or in the quantities needed to recapitalize the Air Force’s vast fleet of Fighting Falcons in the near term. As such, the Air Force is funding a program to extend the F-16’s airframe life from 8000 hours to 12,000 hours to “augment” the F-35 as it struggles to maintain its force structure. "This accomplishment is the result of more than seven years of test, development, design, analysis and partnership between the U.S. Air Force and Lockheed Martin," said Susan Ouzts, vice president of Lockheed Martin's F-16 program. "Combined with F-16 avionics modernization programs like the F-16V, SLEP [Service Life Extension Program] modifications demonstrate that the Fighting Falcon remains a highly capable and affordable 4th Generation option for the U.S. Air Force and international F-16 customers." With the F-16 SLEP structural modifications installed, the Air Force could safely operate its fleet of F-16 Block 40 through 52 aircraft out to 2048 and beyond. “The Air Force and Lockheed Martin also reduced projected service life costs for the Block 40-52 fleet, paving the way for safe, cost-effective F-16 flight operations decades into the future,” reads a Lockheed Martin statement. QUOTE INFORMATION ABOUT INDONESIA’S REFUSAL TO BUY UKRAINIAN BTR-4 IS ANOTHER TOOL OF INFORMATION WARFARE 11.04.2017 ![]() Information in the media about the possibility of Indonesian Marine Corps refusal to buy Ukrainian BTR-4M is the demonstration of competitive struggle for markets after the successful delivery of the first batch of Ukrainian BTR-4M in Indonesia. UKROBORONPROM enterprises will continue to fulfill all the commitments to foreign partners. In January 2017, 5 units of armored personnel carriers BTR-4 M were successfully delivered to the Marine Corps Indonesia according to the contract signed in early 2014 between SFTE “SpetsTehnoEksport” and the Ministry of Defense of Indonesia. Testing of the military equipment in Ukraine and Indonesia by a special commission of the Customer took place prior to military equipment transfer. Thus, in January 2017 Indonesia Ministry of Defense tested Ukrainian armored vehicles on their territory prior to accepting those into service. The Customer tested amphibious capabilities of the vehicles in the sea, conducted fire tests, checked their driving performance. According to test results the Protocol was signed. Ukrainian armored vehicles showed excellent results in accordance with all 47 evaluation parameters of this Protocol. Special commission of the Indonesian Defense Ministry had no complaints concerning the vehicles. Similar tests were conducted in Ukraine before sending military equipment to Indonesia. On 06.15.2016 – according to the results of BTR-4M tests – representatives of the Ministry of Defense of Indonesia confirmed with the official document that the Ukrainian vehicles meet all the requirements of the international contract, and that there are no comments/complaints about the armored vehicles. Last week media distributed false information about UOP’s alleged loss of the Thailand market. The State Concern “UkrOboronProm” once again emphasizes the need to verify the information, distribution of which can result in losing Ukraine’s image on the international arena. http://ukroboronprom.com.ua/en/media/vidmo...noyi-vijny.html |

QUOTE(bereev @ Apr 15 2017, 01:20 PM) see carefully , when he put the glass on it why he need to apply force to press in well, otherwise the mug would fall off due to air pressure and wave action from the sloshingbut yeah tank has this level of stability consider ok point here is that the liquid was pretty level Not sure Pendekar can do that, T-72s aren't known for good gun stabilisation QUOTE(mumbly297 @ Apr 15 2017, 03:01 PM) https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid...762257483796698 that ship is almost at the end of its useful life, it's built only to commercial standards TLDM could buy the HMS Ocean as interim and use it as a offshore base later. even warships require SLEP at 25 years, HMS Ocean is expected to be only scrapworthy at that time |
