Can play lar...but not a gaming laptop lar. Gaming laptop is at least on par with mainstream laptop which is 9600xt with 128MB leh.
I just feel that Malaysian buying gaming laptop is lax in their requirement. That's why you dun see much choice.
In other country, they have Voodoo, Sager etc. Sigh....

Hi, I'm also looking for a laptop and the only problem is that I found out that only Acer 8003LCi have a 128 video card on board. Anyone out there is using this. Need some comment on this brand as not familiar with Acer. I will use the laptop for mostly graphic ie video editing and the occasional games. Cheers.

Thanks mate....just wonder about the brand Acer. Reliablity and after sales issue especially. I know dell is good coz I'm using it for my desktop and heard a lot of praises for Compaq. But not sure for Acer.
Cheers.

Acer, last time did heard they were not that good, but now i think time have changed, so they did too(i mean improved). The same goes for compaq, also got consumer says not good la...bla bla bla. hahaa, user preferences. for the 8003Lci, it's like the king of the hill now for a Centrino based Laptop available in malaysia. if u do alot of Graphic/animation/3d rendering, i think u will need the 128MB mob raddy 9700. if just for gaming, mebbe can settle down with a 64MB mob raddy 9700 or 9600. video editin? i think u need more RAM instead.... well, y not go and ask the sales at laptop shops there directly, i'm sure they would be more than glad to help. cheers. just my 2cents. i read on asia.cnet that the acer ferrari's performance is not very good
| QUOTE | | Acer also offers a 128MB ATI Mobility Radeon 9200 graphics card, which is great for playing the latest 3D games, will not support the latest DirectX 9 drivers. |
| QUOTE | | While Ferrari is usually synonymous with speed, the Acer notebook didn't live up to that name. It managed an average score of only 143 for MobileMark2002 and 134 for SYSmark2002, which is equivalent to Centrino systems with Pentium M 1.3GHz or 1.4GHz processors. In terms of 3D graphics acceleration, the Ferrari did not disappoint, clocking more than 6,300 points in 3DMark2001SE tests. This performance should interest casual gamers and multimedia users. |
read more herebut the model i'm referring to is Acer Ferrari 3000LMi if there's a new ferrari model then i'm outdated

if you don't mind laptop being huge and heavy, then i suggest the dell inspiron 9100 since you're on that budget the inspiron 9100 is affordable the wuxga screen is beautiful it also comes with 128mb mobility radeon 9700 but it seriously lacks battery life check out the specsand also you might want to read reviews on http://asia.cnet.comcheers

Thanks....will have to review your recommendations. The Dell 9100 is tempting but I find it a bit bulky as I travel around quite a bit so weight is factor. I'm quite interested in the Acer coz its lighter and on paper have the specs that sort of in my preference list and about the performance I guess I have to try it first. Just found out that Intel have launched newer mobility chips wtih the new product code (7 series or something like that). Can I know whats the main difference with the current Centrino chips and is it worth the wait? Really appreciate your help here. Cheers

yeah the 8003Lci, is roughly 2.9Kg the new Pentium M processor with product code 7XX is actually the successor to the Banias core, dubbed Dothan. main diff? the new Dothan has 2MB of L2 Cache, while the Banias has only 1MB L2 Cache loh...futhermore from some benchies seen on some websites, it was said the power management(a.k.a Enhanced Speedstep)has improved too other than the performance. wait or no wait, is again up2 consumers. cheers. just my 2cents.

Actually I'm kinda confused of the model i got here, i was told in the brochure its an Acer Aspire 2001 WLMi but on the laptop itself it is stated as Aspire 2000 only
Ok what i can say bout this laptop which i got for RM5750 is that its great for everything, i do a lot of programming, photo editing, normal browsing, and lotsa gaming on it too (plays NFSU smoothly) but the keyboard can get quite warm at sometimes, so just make sure you use in a air-conditioned room.
what more can u ask from this machine? its got dvd burner, comes with 512 ram, bluetooth, wifi, multi card reader, wide screen (great for dvd, once u use wide screen for gaming, it will not be the same again anymore)
some suggestion i would like to recomend is that maybe acer shud put in more hard disk space, perhaps a 60G one then mayb using a 128MB version of the graphic card, usin a 512 one stik ram instead of 2 then this shud be one of the very few ideal laptop for ppl like me who needs gaming on the go...
and yeah reduce the weight, i'm gettin sore shoulders...
so Reliability : No Prob After Sales : Once i called them beacause they left out a driver on their site, they got it fix the very next morning, quite good kua, lotsa service center - one in klcc, one in subang ....
